Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid question thread by eric_twingein Fitness

Where can I find some information about macronutrients? Specifically, what the macro breakdown should be for bulking and cutting. Any good resources out there?

What was that Beatles song from tonight? by jamith87in madmen

[–]Darwins_Beard 2 points3 points ago

This from Alan Sepinwall's review:

Just as Megan isn't exactly Betty, or Peggy, the song Ken and Stan pick for the Cheavlier Blanc ad isn't exactly a Beatles song, though it's one they recorded for their legendary audition for Decca Records. It's "September in the Rain," and Shazam tells me this is a version recorded by The Wedgewoods. Note that out-of-touch Don immediately assumes it is The Beatles, while younger man of the moment Ginsberg is horrified by the old-fashioned nature of the song (first published in 1937).

My W-2 was stolen. What should I do to protect my identity? by Darwins_Beardin personalfinance

Thanks. I called this morning and put a 90 day fraud alert on my name with the credit bureaus. I plan on running my annual credit report afterwards.

I did file a report with the local sheriffs department yesterday.

PSA: This subreddit is for information about personal finance. It is not a place for moral debate. by easlernin personalfinance

I don't get it. So the guy asks a question, doesn't like the advice he gets, and then blames the subreddit for engaging in "moral debate."

I'm all for a respectful community, but a little tough love never killed anyone.

Five years ago I never thought I'd be in this position and debt was just a reality for all. A ways to go but proof that anyone can man-up (or woman-up) and take care of their shit. by roger_sterlingin Frugal

Debt Free. Good for you! Now it's time to start investing in your retirement account.

How much did you originally have in credit card debt? Congratulations on the hard work.

People with AB+ are universal donors for blood platelets. The donations usually go to people undergoing chemotherapy. If you've got it, give it.

I loved this article, but it's a shame that they didn't include more examples of their work. Does anyone know where you might be able to find more?

Edit: I think I just answered my own question. For anyone else who may be interested...

Not only that, but we don't even need to physically leave the planet to "explore the cosmos." Every day we are learning a tremendous amount about the nature of the universe and our place in it.

Thanks, this is great. I'll be missing ~9 workouts. I'm going to go back through the Programming chapter and see what's recommended.

I just started SS a few weeks ago, but I'll be taking a three week overseas vacation at the end of December. I'll have completed 8 weeks of SS. During the vacation, I wont have any access to weights and planning my diet will be especially difficult.

How should I resume when I come back? Start back with SS as if it were the first workout? Start from where I left off?

Additionally, there could be some debate about how insulated we have become from selective pressure since the advent of civilization.

Some would argue that civilization has actually increased the rate of evolutionary change. Since the advent of agriculture, the worldwide human population has exploded. Higher population means a greater number of genetic mutations, and the possibility for new favorable alleles.

At the very least, we know that culture has played a role in specific types of selection (lactose tolerance and resistance to disease are two examples)

If you're really interested in the evolution of the human brain and how evolution has shaped our psychology, I suggest reading Steven Pinker's "How the Mind Works." It's not a light read, but it's incredibly fascinating.

For a more general look at recent human evolution, I enjoyed "The 10,000 Year Explosion." The authors argue that genetic changes have led to higher than average IQs among European Jews.

Whats wrong with eating meat? by Crikkerin Vegetarianism

[–]Darwins_Beard 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's a good question. Keep in mind that people are vegetarian for a variety of reasons, including personal health, ethical and religious concerns, and environmental impact.

Limiting your meat consumption decreases your chance of developing diet-related diseases like heart disease and cancer.
