I'd have to say I think something like this show is a much more mature and responsible way of handling drug use. Educating people on how to be safe is much better than just criminalizing them, because people are gonna do it either way, and its much less dangerous overall if they've been educated.

Compare it to the portrayal of gays in media. It took a very long time for gay characters on television to break out of the stereotypes that society had of them, as well as have some other aspect to their character other than just "being gay." Now we have characters who are openly gay, but that does not determine their character and is not the focus of who they are or what they contribute to the show. But it took a VERY long time for this to happen. Being a stoner is only just starting to become socially accepted outside of people who smoke, and mainly in youth (by which I mean a teen who doesn't smoke is much more likely to accept a stoner than an adult who doesn't smoke). So television is going to take a while to catch up to that standard, and portray stoner characters as more than just stereotypical stoners.

I think the biggest reason why you should is just considering where your weed comes from. Say anything you want, there is pretty much no way of ensuring where your weed comes from if you're buying it illegally, barring knowing the person who grows it personally. Even if your dealer says its grown in the US, there's no way of confirming that, and it probably isn't. Buying weed illegally is almost ensuring that you are funding the Mexican drug war and giving it reason to continue, as the majority if illegally-purchased weed comes from Mexico. Even if it is grown in the US, its most likely connected to gang warfare in some way shape or form. Buying weed illegally is funding crime and murder, so if you have any opportunity to buy legally, do it. I mean, either way you're breaking a law, why not at least break one that doesn't harm anybody?
