TYL: That Air France flight 447 which crashed in the Atlantic in 2009. One of the main contributors to the crash was the side mounted joysticks. In other brands of planes center mounted flight control sticks are used. In those planes control sticks are connected. So if the FO pulls back on the stick the CAPT's stick will move letting him know what is happening. In Airbus planes each joystick moves independently and does not provide feedback to show what the other person is doing. They also work on a first come first serve basis. On 447 the FO was pulling back on the stick trying to gain alt. The Capt saw they were losing speed so he was pushing down to pitch down and gain speed. Visibility was at zero and the two pilots were not communicating with each other. This resulted in the Capt thinking he was pitched down instead the plane was stalled.
