Help me make my decision between two watches: Rolex and Jaeger-LeCoultre by terrestrialin Watches

[–]DAMNNNNNNNNN 9 points10 points ago

As an investment, the Rolex.

As for rarity, the JLC. I could find you multiple green saphire Milgauss's pretty much anywhere where I live in a matter of hours.

I prefer the Rolex though, entirely subjectively.

Why bodybuilders are more jacked than powerlifters by jcsickzin Fitness

[–]DAMNNNNNNNNN 0 points1 point ago

I agree that a shorter guy who can more more is definately stronger, but the fact is that lifts take into account leverages and angles as well as muscle strength and CNS adaptation, thereby giving some advantages to shorter lifters.

Trouble achieving "liftoff" on dumbbell press by RationalEccentricin Fitness

[–]DAMNNNNNNNNN 0 points1 point ago

I have the exact same problem as you, concerning the 'lift-off' part. I decided that it was part mental and in part I was taking advantage of the momentum of the later reps coming down in the negative to push them back up again. Only solution I've found is really trying to make that first rep as strict in form as possible. My 5RM is a lot lower than yours though (about 80 pounds).

Be careful with kipping pull ups, the motion puts a lot of stress on the shoulder. It's best to practice them in 'strict' form to strengthen the joint, if you insist on kipping them later (still a bad idea).

Hypothetically, how long would it take for a fairly muscular person to "lose their muscles" after stopping going to the gym? by KnivesAndShallotsin Fitness

[–]DAMNNNNNNNNN 7 points8 points ago

That sounds too quick for muscle to atrophy, unless you were almost starving. I'm guessing you didn't lose 5-7 pounds of muscle in that period and you severely overestimated how much muscle you had put on.

What's the reasoning behind this? I think it's great for electrolyte replenishment, especially when working out or sports in a hot environment. I doubt many people in airconditioned gyms might need it though.

My gym says no chalk is allowed, what can I use? by teek22in Fitness

[–]DAMNNNNNNNNN 0 points1 point ago

Completely agree with you that injuries come with lifting heavy weights. However, for the majority of people who are into beginners programs like SS or intermediates who will never compete, catastrophic injury prevention is just as important as increasing their numbers.

A bicep tendon tear/detachment requires surgery and several months recovery. It also only seems to occur on the arm where the palm is facing forward in a mixed/alternate grip deadlift, so avoiding that grip can be advisable.

[–]DAMNNNNNNNNN 0 points1 point ago

Hook grip. It takes a bit of conditioning for your thumb to get used to being squeezed, but once you got it it's going to work wonders.

Mixed grip makes me worry about bicep tendon tears. Some pretty NSFL videos like this one show what can happen.

Stop the creatine and go get your kidney function checked by a doctor, soon as possible.
