When I was a kid, I would ALWAYS spread the peanut butter before the jam because I thought the peanut butter jar didn't deserve to be contaminated. I still make my PB&Js this way. What quirky things from your childhood still hold on? by KixStarin AskReddit

I always thought the same until I found out how easy it is to rinse off jelly (just run it under water and wipe with fingers), from then on it's always jelly first then peanut butter!

that would be great and all, but where do all the funds to afford this come from? The average cost per year for one prisoner is approx. $25,000 and when this is multiplied a good chunk of our country's wealth is going towards keeping these extremely dangerous people alive.

I understand and hold nothing against you for opinion all the while respecting you for standing up for what you believe. Thank you for an engaging discussion, so upvotes for you.

In any event, what other ways would you recommend punishing him and/or extracting information from KSM/others?

if the moments of panic he goes through yield information that will save the lives of innocent civilians and citizens of the world then yes I would argue it is OK in this instance.

Yes, but what human rights have been ignored in the case of KSM?

To my knowledge he's only been waterboarded, but he has received food, water, shelter and clothing.

And information extracted from him and others have led to the world being a safer place.

I never once said that the US Government is innocent of atrocities...we're far from perfect I was just remarking about the issue of torture on people who are guilty of crimes against humanity.

There are plenty of people in America and all other countries of the world that have wronged others in horrible ways, it is only my wish that those who have done so receive what they truly deserve.

Alas, this is not a perfect world and there is no way to ensure that justice is always served, but one can dream.

well, if you read my earlier post I'm not for treating him worse than my country's worst criminals...in fact I think all major threats to society shouldn't be drains on our dwindling resources

EDIT: sorry if slightly offtopic, as said in my last post I'm wee bit drunk

I understand this viewpoint, but I feel that we cannot be too careful. When we have knowledge that he beyond a reasonable doubt was behind it (from other sources as well) I feel it is justified. Also, waterboarding to my knowledge has no lasting physical damage done, just the mental feeling that one is drowning, causing a strong panic response.

Feel free to run other expensive tests like polygraph and brain scans if scans permit, but if funds could be better spent I have no problem with waterboarding a terrorist.

In a perfect world however we would all wear our guilt on our forehead and all evil beings would be easily identified and dealt with, but until then we must stick to the things that keep the innocent public safe.

Basically the needs of the many can sometimes outweigh the needs of the few, though if there was another way I would gladly take it.

okay, so what should be done to him? Should he live the rest of his life left alone in a cell being fed three meals a day when those resources could go towards people in actual need such as the starving children in Africa?

I would sleep easily knowing that instead of feeding a terrorist/mass murderer my money would be going to feed the innocent.

though I may get downvoted, I'm drunk so I want to share my opinion...

It is my belief that by committing the crimes against humanity that terrorists such as KSM have done, they have forfeited their rights as human beings.

What I mean is that after ordering the murder of so many innocents in an event like 9/11 I seriously couldn't give 2 fucks what they did to the guy, be it waterboarding or execution. worl I'm basically saying the man doesn't even deserve to breathe air on this planet anymore, especially not to eat food and wear clothes that my hard-earned tax dollars paid for. So yes, waterboard that mofo and extract whatever information you can to save the lives of innocent civilian citizens of all nations of the world that evil people like KSM would conspire to murder.

Sure I'm certain that some of you may find offense in this but seriously, consider all of the things people like KSM have done?

Give him a lawyer and other basic rights? Nope, he didn't give any innocent men, women and children any chances or luxuries...on the command of him and his co-conspirators they ended the lives of thousands of people.

He gave all that up when he murdered all those innocent people.

So that some of you don't jump the gun and call me a racist or an extremist of any religious nature, let me first say that I am an agnostic atheist so religion is 100% not a deciding factor in this opinion.

I would gladly apply this view to criminals of all races, creeds, genders, and nationalities.

Basically put, do whatever you want to do, but as soon as you encroach upon the basic human rights of other to live happily then sorry buddy you're fucked in my book.

Murder/rape an entire family after invading their home (i.e. some American serial killers)? Sorry bud, you've just forfeited your rights as a member of society, deserve none of my pity nor my taxes to keep you alive, and should be eliminated.

I welcome any responses and opinions, and keep in mind that my aim is to not incite anything derogatory I just wanted to share my point of view.

TL;DR Humans who commit atrocious crimes against humanty (such as KSM among many other examples) deserve none of our pity and forfeited their all of their rights when they encroached on the rights of others, in case with mass murder of innocent civilians.

EDIT: I accidentally a "worl" somehow...
