The rescue I volunteer for had a supppper cute Catahoula mix for a while..(http://i.imgur.com/yMiyL.jpg) She was adopted a month or so ago and I saw her this weekend with her new brother who is a black/grey catahoula. They're the CUTEST pair and the owners said they took to eachother immediately. I'm so happy for her. We have another Catahoula mix right now who can't seem to get adopted.. she came in with a few siblings and they went fast, but no one has picked her up yet. (http://i.imgur.com/pSm9I.jpg)

I really want one someday, but I think they're way too high energy for me.

I don't really think they said anything graphic... When you tell people to crate or belt their pets in the car they might not always realize why. It may seem more like some people don't want a dog roaming around inside a vehicle when they drive, than that in the event of an accident the dog can be seriously injured OR even seriously injure you if it isn't restrained.

I want thattttt. For the last few years I've paid in... Single, no dependents, no mortgage tax. I look a look last December and realized for some unknown batshit reason I was claiming 2!!! I changed it, and I could not be more excited for taxes next year.

I'm 29... I went most of my life without this ever happening to me, but in the last 6 months for some reason I am a MAGNET for door handles. Assholes.

The very first job I picked up when I started volunteering with this group was two go pick up two dogs from a transport in Maple Grove and bring them to our office in Minnetonka. One of them was a Greyhound named Syd.. and he was AWESOME! I hadn't much experience with Greyhounds before then, I'm not even sure if I had met one in person.. but that dog ruled. I loved him and I still see him every now and then when his new family brings him to our events. Syd in the back of my tiny Mazda.

we have two completely different views on Dishwashers, apparently. I don't truly believe there is any way that every part of what I put in the dishwasher is getting clean. Especially not something with crevices.

I wasn't volunteering yet when the No Kill walk went down, but I've heard a TON of stories about how rainy it was. I have my fingers crossed for an awesome warm temperate walk this year.

I don't make decisions for the rescue, I am just a volunteer.. but do you honestly believe that a sick dog has less of a right to be saved than a healthy one? At the end of the day, if we save 100 dogs the other 1000 will be put down, whether they were sick or healthy or not. I understand what you're getting at from a financial standpoint, but I think its a pretty sad attitude to have. Again.. I'm not speaking on their behalf, just giving you my opinion. It makes me a little sad that you're ragging on people who volunteer their time to try and make a difference considering the size of the epidemic we have with animal overpopulation.

I'm not saying there is an age restriction. You can have a two year old that is perfectly compatible with a large dog that is your pet that you know and have trained and understand the mannerisms of. But when you're going to a shelter or a rescue agency to meet dogs that have come from hoarders, puppy mills, or been found stray and may not have manners I would think you'd take some precautions.

I was running an adoption event recently and a family came in to look with their ~2 year old daughter. I showed them around and said they were welcome to go into the off leash dog area, but that they may want to hold their daughter or keep her very close so she didn't get knocked over. The woman looks at me and says "No, its okay, shes good with dogs." Thats all good and well, lady, but that doesn't mean the dogs will be good with her!

Here is one of my favorite stories about a dog that Secondhand Hounds has helped:

"Zippy came to SHH when a friend of the rescue saw a dog staggering along a road, dragging his hind end and thought he must have been hit by a car. Zips, a 3-year-old chocolate lab/pit bull mix, dragged himself home but SHH found out who owned him and someone checked on him. When they saw Zippy was chained to a tree in the freezing March rain, covered in ice and shaking with cold, they were able to convince the owner to surrender him. He was so grateful to be in our volunteer’s warm car that he snuggled between her and the seat of the car on the way home. When Zippy finally was brought to the vet, they discovered that he had Grade IV luxating patellas (his kneecaps were behind his knees) along with other orthopedic deformities. He was able to use his left rear leg, but just dragged the right one and mainly depended on his front legs to get around. Over the course of a few months, he saw a half-dozen vets and all but one said he was hopeless and should be put down, despite the fact that he was one of the happiest dogs I’ve ever seen. His back legs just didn’t work well. However, he went for a consult at a specialty rehab center and they said he had a good quality of life and a low pain score. The vets at the University of Minnesota were willing to try to basically reconstruct his formerly useless right leg, but it would be extremely expensive. With the help of SHH and Modern Life Photo, raised the money for his surgery and he got it in June of 2011. Within 6 weeks of the surgery, with extensive rehab, he was walking on all 4 legs for the first time in his life!"
