TROPHY CASE

Moving my savings account was the best thing I ever did. by CashOverAssin Frugal

[–]CashOverAss[S] 4 points5 points ago

Budgeting is very important to me and the way I've been able to save so much. I very precisely budget how much money I can move out of my checking account and into my savings to still be able to pay my mortgage, my car payment, and all my other bills. Budgeting, to me is so important because I want to save as much as possible and move as much money as possible each week into my savings without over-drafting my operating/checking account. Which I haven't done in 5+ years so clearly I have no problem budgeting.

Thanks. I will look into this. What happens when you need to liquidate? Penalties? Taxes?

Yea. there are a few I guess and everyone needs to outweigh the pros and cons. I was with Washington mutual/bought by chase for about 15 years. Chase branches are much pretty inside than my credit union (who cares), there are a million chase locations and atms everywhere, they have a flashier website. There are definitely pros, but fuck Chase. It's not worth it to me.

Hi! I don't have any problems. I have more self control than you could shake a stick at. Including 0 credit card debt, never been late on a credit card/mortgage/car payment etc. Self control, I've been vegan for 10 years. Talk about self control!

It's a chase checking? You can write yourself a check and deposit it at the CU. I do this as often as possible. I should start doing it weekly, even if it's a small amount.

Personally, I went into my local chase, told them I wasn't happy with them or some of their recent politics and demanded they close my account and hand me the cash. I then proceeded to drive immediately to the credit union and open the account.

I'm sure Chase can give you a money order or cashiers check if you feel more comfortable with that.

I think I'm saving for a second real estate property.

The only requirement of my CU is to reside in the county in which I reside. I'd imagine just about every county in the country has a credit union like that. Keep researching! I think you'll be glad you did.

Some paranoia is good. This is a great point! I should add it.

For saving purposes, yes! If it was a checking account, bill pay account, then I might feel diferently or learn about their other features.

My CU has online banking for checking only. I believe. I don't have a checking account at my credit union yet. I'm considering MAYBE opening a checking account at a different credit union, so that all my points above will remain intact but I could use online bill pay, etc.

Thanks. Good info. I was aware of this. I researched this before switching to the credit union because I was worried about what I would do if I ended up visiting Witchata, KS and needed money in an emergency.

It doesn't really negate my number three. Publix, the largest grocery chain in my region has 24 hour ATM's out front that I could use with my savings, but it's the mental thing I think... All I know is, I haven't used an ATM one time in 5-6 months to withdraw from savings.

While I don't believe the sender of that letter is smart enough to "bait" anyone to do anything, you still have very sound advice.

I'm lucky to say that I have got to meet a few "famous" people that I really admired. I admired them so much that I took that opportunity to TALK to them and never wasted our time with a picture.

Even though there's a video, and the thing must exist, I don't disagree that there's a certain amount of satire happening on this site.

Elizabeth Warren Calls on JP Morgan Chief to Resign from NY Federal Reserve Bank Board by maxwellhillin politics

I'm not sure why you're being downvoted. You raise a fine point. However specifically in regards to JP Morgan, the financial crisis, and the Federal Reserve board, someone obviously needs to resign/be fired/apologize for ruining everything for everyone.
