TROPHY CASE

Who the hell downvoted you? It was a totally valid point! I get rather raged when I have to click "US" instead of "English" for language options...

JAKE, PLAY HALF LIFE 2. SERIOUSLY. by sytrixin gaming

Blimey that's a very in-depth response! In all honesty, I really CBA to tutor him in the basics of Portal... Don't really have the time or patience, and it's only a 3hr game :P It's all pretty damn easy, he's just a weird chap.

My friend is a bit like that, except ONLY with Portal... Considering he's a clever chap (he's almost a doctor) and is a pretty hardcore gamer and good at FPS games usually, he just had absolutely no idea what to do from pretty much the start of the game... I'm pretty convinced that if I hadn't said anything he would have been in the starting couple of puzzles for hours.

The main two I know of are Basehead and SoundMiner - pretty sure they'd do the job!

Meh I honestly never saw any whilst playing... I pre-ordered, got it the day it came out and played it through start-to-finish in about a week... The only game breaking thing was the smithing exploit :P

Are you bassists out there happy? by frustrationmanin Bass

[–]Captain_Dan 1 point2 points ago

Ah sorry I meant that I don't play with anyone who would appreciate or allow me to throw slap riffs in to the songs, and in all fairness it wouldn't suit the music at all so I don't do it :P I just do what's needed for the track, and do the slap in my own time :)

Are you bassists out there happy? by frustrationmanin Bass

[–]Captain_Dan 1 point2 points ago

I've been playing bass since I was 12, and I can slap a bit, but I've never legitimately used it in the "real world" - it's just something I play around with at home or a party trick if anyone wants to hear some OTT funky bass...

Looking for work by djtim546in GameAudio

Oh dear lord that place really devalues EVERYTHING. There are people on there offering to mix tracks for $10. I mean sure, undercutting competition is certainly one way to get a portfolio together, but clients then get used to the idea of audio work being insanely cheap, and then we all get paid even less than we already do... Might be a nice short-term $10, but in the long run it screws everyone over :P

IAmA 23 year old woman living with my boyfriend, at anchor, aboard our 30 foot sailing boat. AMA by lana09in IAmA

Why would you think we were homeless? I just said we lived in the boat :P We didn't really move it much, and it was actually really nice and spacious inside. My parents work in music, one as a manager and one as a performer/teacher, so nothing boat related really!

Interesting! I lived on a boat (60ft barge) for 23 years of my life (I'm now 24) and the toilet situation was always the worst part, along with the log fire in winter...

I live in England and I don't get coffee or tea... I generally stick to water! Besides the fact that I'm not really a fan of hot drinks in general, I can't be arsed with the whole 'making tea' thing - water's quicker and easier.

edit: and free

GTA: Mumbai. Yes, please. by machamboin gaming

[–]Captain_Dan 0 points1 point ago

I'm a bit hungover so if I've misunderstood you apologies :P A lot of tv shows that get shipped overseas use the original production audio in the home country if it's good enough, as it's more authentic and cheaper. But if they overdub the whole show in German for example, they then have to do the foley and everything else for the entire show for consistency. Hope that makes sense :P

GTA: Mumbai. Yes, please. by machamboin gaming

[–]Captain_Dan 3 points4 points ago

The problem with recording sound on-set is that there is often far too much background noise picked up by the microphones. That's definitely the case for this film, as it's filmed in a city, but it's also the case for a lot of big budget films like Lord of the Rings where they have a massive crew, camera cranes and everything else making a shitload of noise, which makes the audio recorded on location unusable apart from as a guide... Pretty much all of LOTR had to be re-recorded anyway because the studio was next to an airport or under a flight path!

You'd be amazed how many things get foley'd though - any program which is going to have dialogue over-dubbed in a foreign language needs a good amount of foley work to recreate every footstep and cloth movement, as none of the original sound can be used if they're replacing the dialogue...

You guys all get upvotes for loving foley artists - possibly the least known important role in a film.

If you're looking for a 'pro' solution, Sound Miner or BaseHead are two fairly reputable programs. They're mostly used for sfx placement by sound designers.

My dad has an old Acorn computer he still uses from 20 years ago. If my PC lasts me just 4 years I'm pretty content with that... Damn planned obsolescence.

If anyone wants something a bit more punkrock / ska, go listen to Booze Lan HERE - there's a bit of a CS-related rap in the middle. It's pretty terrible as a song, but maybe you crazy internet people might like it?!
