Does anyone subscribe to the YES Network in a state other than New York? by IAMHabin yankees

MA resident here, same situation. I bought a Roku box in April and intended to get MLB.tv but am thinking of waiting until after the All-Star break (money).

Thank you! I got another one right before yours, so give it to another lucky redditor. :)

Thanks again!

So what exactly is a Guest Pass? by Syntheticsin diablo3

[–]CaptHandsome 0 points1 point ago

If you haven't used up the UK version, I'd love to take a stab at it (in US, but I'm not sure that matters). But not at the cost of one of your friends being able to use it!

My cats every morning. by gksodahin funny

[–]CaptHandsome 0 points1 point ago

Just happened. (Good morning!) I shake the bowl a little to make it sound like it's being poured in, and then re-creates a little mountain of food instead of being spread out like that. It works about 50% of the time.

So what exactly is a Guest Pass? by Syntheticsin diablo3

[–]CaptHandsome 0 points1 point ago

If you buy a boxed copy - not the digital download - then it comes with a card with a guest pass code on it. You give it to someone who enters it on battle.net and gets what's basically the D3 demo. So if your friend bought a boxed copy and you're interested in trying before you buy, have your friend give it to you and enter the code on the site.

How come there are no guest passes for the Digital version of the game? by clubdrift123in diablo3

Did you get a boxed copy? And if so, would you be willing to give out the guest pass? :D

Would love one, if someone has available. PM would be awesome. :)

Thanks everyone for being awesome about this!

TIL that "King of the hill" was cancelled to make room for "The Cleveland Show" by AntToeKneein todayilearned

[–]CaptHandsome 0 points1 point ago

It should be said that while King of the Hill was a great show, it really petered off in the last couple of seasons and lost the mojo. It was an awesome show but it ran its course.

I only wished the suits at Fox had enough sense to do the same with the Simpsons about 8 seasons ago instead of wringing it dry.

Amazing Interview w/Lev Grossman author of THE MAGICIANS and THE MAGICIAN KING by jdiddyesquirein Fantasy

[–]CaptHandsome 2 points3 points ago

I went into it largely ignoring the marketing hype. I came out of it disappointed and somewhat angry.

His characters were all hateful. His plot was paper thin. His narrative decisions were mostly boring. His references were obvious and shallow. When it was all said and done, there really was no point to this book other than his thinking he was being clever. But really, I saw no wit in this book whatsoever.

I know people are saying some of us "didn't get it". To that I say, you think he (and you) are more clever than you really are.

(Sorry if any of this sounds mean or hateful, I don't intend it to be. I was just really, really put off by this book - obviously.) :)

Mariano Rivera: "I'm coming back. Write it down in big letters. I'm not going out like this." by splooshyin baseball

[–]CaptHandsome 0 points1 point ago

Would you actually put money on Derek Jeter not getting an overwhelming first position the very first year he's eligible, regardless of any and all other possible entrants? I will spot you any current players in that pool - do you really think he would not be an overwhelming first year, top vote-getter?

You're killing me with this 'fringe' nonsense!

(Note to law enforcement: this is a rhetorical question, not a solicitation for illegal gambling.)

Mariano Rivera: "I'm coming back. Write it down in big letters. I'm not going out like this." by splooshyin baseball

[–]CaptHandsome 0 points1 point ago

You're changing your argument. Defensively, Jeter may be overrated. Offensively, one of the best players in the SS position of all time - inarguable statistics, which ultimately outweigh his lacking defense.

Overrated player is not the same as overrated defensively. Your original argument was that he was a "fringe Hall of Famer", which is flat-out wrong.

Yankee fans can be objective with facts, statistics, and logic around their team. We may love the guy, but we love him for a reason. There's no Sportscenter hype here.

New-ish to Boston area. Anyone else as bored as I am? by manderpin BostonSocialClub

[–]CaptHandsome 1 point2 points ago

I'd just grab a copy of The Dig or The Phoenix to see what's up with shows. (Check out the column on the right of this page for others.) And then check /boston & /bostonsocialclub for people into the same thing(s) and/or /bostontrees.

Also, if you have the ability to get down there, Providence is pretty sweet, with a big art scene. Again, a college town, but I think there's still activity there in the summer, like Waterfire.

Mariano Rivera: "I'm coming back. Write it down in big letters. I'm not going out like this." by splooshyin baseball

[–]CaptHandsome 0 points1 point ago

I will give you this much: defensively, one could make the argument that Jeter is overrated - or at least, his excellence stems much more from offensive capabilities and performances than defensive. I don't necessarily agree with that, but I might concede it. Though you'd also be crazy to ignore his clutch, historic defensive plays - "The Tag" - but whatever, let's put that aside.

The fact remains Jeter DID have all of those at-bats, and Larkin didn't. Jeter has performed over a longer stretch, so his stats are better... and that is exactly what gets a player into the Hall, not conjecture and speculation. We can talk all day about players with great potential that didn't have the longevity, or careers cut short, or whatever; those players don't get into the Hall.

And the ring argument is completely valid. Jeter and Posada are both elite position players. Pettitte has staggering post-season statistics. And Rivera is the greatest closer of all time. They're all Hall of Famers, part of a dynasty team. "Overvalued because they played on teams with incredible talent"? They ARE the incredible talent. They ARE the Hall of Famers. Some of the others may be fringe HOF'ers, like Bernie, but you yourself are citing the textbook definition of what HOF players are. There is absolutely no argument to make against them being in the Hall.

You have every right to argue who you think should be in the Hall. But don't throw out weak, illogical, and clearly subjective arguments and claim objectivity.

Boston is pretty beautiful in the summer. With the college kids peacing out, the city can get pretty quiet, if you're looking for a social scene. But there are still plenty of students around, and lots of cultural things going on year-round.

Cambridge is probably your best bet, if you're looking for a day-to-day scene - especially with ents. And /r/bostontrees may put a meet-up or two together - there have been a couple recently.

What's your scene? What're you looking to do?

You must be trolling. Your argument is invalid.

Omar Vizquel:

  • gold gloves: 11

  • lifetime batting: .272

  • hits: 2842

  • RBI's: 944

  • HR's: 80

  • rings: 0

Barry Larkin:

  • gold gloves: 3

  • lifetime batting: .295

  • hits: 2340

  • RBI's: 960

  • HR's: 198

  • rings: 1

Derek Jeter:

  • gold gloves: 5

  • lifetime batting: .314

  • hits: 3134

  • RBI's: 1211

  • HR's: 245

  • rings: 5

Omar has more defensive bling, sure. But he's no "above average hitter" - he's had a stellar offensive career. And of the two, only Larkin is going into the Hall; Vizquel isn't going there any time soon, if ever.

Wagner. Ripken. Jeter. Maybe Ozzie Smith. Top shortstops of all time.
