Caring is one thing. Obsessive, controlling behavior is another.

How can I get daily balance emails? by awindin Frugal

[–]CapOnFoam 0 points1 point ago

Mint.com does ING. You have to log in to ING and go to My Info then Access Code. Activate it if you haven't already. You then use that code when you set up your ING account in Mint.

Blending/mixing mead? by niyrexin mead

[–]CapOnFoam 1 point2 points ago

I was sampling a bunch of my (kegged) meads this weekend, and was pouring the mead from the lines into a cup every time I changed the line to a different keg.

I ended up with a cup of blueberry-cranberry-beaujolais mead. Delicious! :)

A lot of people will make a sack mead & keep it on reserve for blending with drier meads to improve sweetness. Like wine, I think mead is made for blending!

ahhh, gotcha. Thanks for clarifying.

2012 vs. 1984: Young adults really do have it harder today - The Globe and Mail by Tarretin worldnews

KC is actually a pretty diverse town and politics isn't nearly as much in the forefront as what I found with people on the west coast (portland, seattle, sacramento). I find it far easier to make friends here in KC than on the west coast as a result*, not to mention that there are a lot of liberals here. KU is in Lawrence which is a liberal town and not far from KC. If you live in KC proper (not the 'burbs), you'll find a ton of liberal, atheist, child-free 20 & 30 somethings.

People don't really talk religion... sure you'll see anti-abortion billboards when you drive across the state, but you see that everywhere. I saw religious signs & billboards when I grew up in Oregon; not any different here.

*edit: what I mean here is that people don't try to suss you out before deciding whether to talk to you or hang out with you. I have religious & politically conservative friends here, as well as those who are far more liberal than I am, but we rarely ever talk about politics or religion.

I'm not sure if you're saying that the midwest is all white, but KC is pretty racially diverse. 30% black, 10% hispanic, 55% non-hispanic white, and the rest is a smattering of other cultures & races.

St Louis is 50% black and 44% white. You can look up other affordable midwest cities like Omaha, Tulsa, Cleveland, Memphis, Louisville, etc - I'm pretty sure you'll find pretty diverse demographics.

Or maybe you were implying something else.

what will all their broke ass children do who can't afford ANY of this shit.

Move to cities like Kansas City where housing prices are reasonable (3br/1.5ba in the city for under $200k) and the job market is healthy and growing. I moved to KC 5 years ago and have better career opportunities & a much lower cost of living than I did on the west coast, and I actually really enjoy living out here.

Sure I miss some things about the west coast, but there would be a lot of things I'd miss about KC if I moved back.

I am curious why you are going there when you could easily go to one that is far cheaper.

Is anyone terrified of being alone? by Cchristin childfree

[–]CapOnFoam 3 points4 points ago

That's not what I meant. I don't expect my friends to do what a nurse should do, just as I wouldn't place that expectation on children. That's my whole point about hiring a nurse.

I know I could tell my friends what to do if they noticed I was getting crazy, and could trust them to do what I asked - which is taking me to the proper facility.

Why would you say that? The beauty of friends is that you get to pick them. Maybe you just need to be a bit older? I didn't find close, loving, caring friends until my mid 30s.

What foods generally aren't worth spending more on? by sherlokin Cooking

[–]CapOnFoam 4 points5 points ago

It's the brand. King Arthur for example has a consistent % of protein which is important in baking.

[–]CapOnFoam 16 points17 points ago

There's a big difference. My friends have chosen to love me and support me, and will act compassionately toward me (people who do not will not be my friends).

Children I would hypothetically bear have not been granted that choice. I have placed an expectation upon them regardless of that choice.

I get mine at ethnic markets. Quart-sized bags of spices for a couple bucks.

I've had people ask me who's going to take care of me when I'm old. My response? "A professional geriatric nurse that I can pay to take care of me from the money I've saved by not having kids." I've only gotten to use that response twice, but it was pretty awesome. :)

I find it incredibly self-serving for people to expect that their adult children will automatically take care of them when they're old. How dare people put that responsibility on someone just because of a genetic relation.

How to perk up saggy boobs? by lestegasaurusin Fitness

[–]CapOnFoam 2 points3 points ago

I lost 80 pounds and have kept it off for about 6-7 years now. My breasts were never large (40C) but I'm now a 36A and definitely sag. They'll probably never totally be the same (plus, aging... sigh...) BUT you've found the right advice here.

  1. Upper body muscle development. heavy weights. go strong! This worked wonders for me.
  2. Good bras that have padding & support. My favorites are wonderbra and actually the Gilligan O'Malley bras at target.

Is it just me or are new eateries springing up all over Westport? by mrfuriousin kansascity

[–]CapOnFoam 5 points6 points ago

Ones I know of:

  • Sama Zama
  • Open Fire Pizza
  • The Green Room
  • Johnny Jo's Pizzeria - not westport, as it's on 47th & Holly. But has EXCELLENT pizza that's pretty close to NY style. The guy's been open a few months.

Parkville Microbrew Festival...Anyone attending this weekend? by shrimp_nastyin kansascity

I'll be pouring between 1-3pm (not sure which booth yet). Say hi! :) I've got short dark brown hair, several hoop earrings on my right ear, and a nose stud. Oh, and female. Mid 30s.

I'll be wearing a red Walking Man Brewing Co hoodie with white & yellow writing.

Sac-brew-mento: Three of Sacramento's Best Local Breweries by Tuxmask55in beer

[–]CapOnFoam 0 points1 point ago

Agreed, and I'd even question Rubicon. their IPAs are good, but I just had their pils this week and it had a lot of diacetyl in it. And their dubbel had a lot of high fusels in the finish. Not impressed.

I was just in Folsom this week and was really impressed with Lockdown, especially their Rye PA and their Red. Again, not Sac proper, but close.

Boulevard Saison-Brett (Where are you?) by BirdsTheWurdin beer

[–]CapOnFoam 0 points1 point ago

Tank 7 is the base for Saison-Brett and is a wonnnnderful saison; I highly recommend it! Definitely try it in the bottle - I think Boulevard nails carbonation on their belgians in the bottle, and you can't really rely on bars to do the same from draught.

They were great!! I was actually impressed with 3 of the 4 bands (not that impressed with Peace of Mind or Piece of Mind or whatever their name was).

sweet! But I thought it was either a 1-day or 3-day pass. I didn't think they were selling any 2-day passes...? Maybe I'm wrong. I hope I bought the right one! :P

yes, the shows are first-come, first-serve. if you have a pass but the house is full, you won't get in.

their FAQ says: "Many venues fill up so arrive early. Admission subject to legal capacity."
