At first glance I thought "Man, Rubens has really let himself go."

Look what I stumbled upon in a 1930 Popular Mechanics magazine. Turns out F1 isn't that "cutting edge" after all by sorbatein formula1

I don't think anybody's saying that paddle shifts were invented by F1. Lotus was playing around with a clutch-less transmission in the 1970s. Citroen was using some manner of clutch-less steering wheel mounted shifter in the 1950s.

However, F1's technology is more at the extreme end, with gear shifts taking hundredths of a second in extreme operating conditions unseen in consumer road cars. That's where F1 is cutting edge.

It's not like he just stepped into open-wheel racing.

It looks like the ante has been upped. The Metro has placed two different people at the Broadway and Cambie train station in order to compete with the 24's Mr. Enthusiastic in the cowboy hat. by wassworthin vancouver

At 22nd Street in the mornings there are two Metros and two 24hrs, and occasionally someone handing out either the Sun or the Province. It's a gauntlet getting into the station sometimes.

Bernie wants changes in Montreal by bacco007in formula1

[–]CanSpice 7 points8 points ago

It has history because it's been an integral part of the circuit. It has history because it's the site of some of the most memorable events at the Canadian GP. It has history because good things (and bad things) happen there. And it should be taken out because it "has history but not much else"?

Going to the Montreal GP! Seating advice? by ilikepancakesin formula1

[–]CanSpice 4 points5 points ago

When I went we sat at the first corner grandstands. If we went again we'd sit there again. You get the first corner shenanigans off the start, a good view of the front straight (and in the distance, the Wall of Champions), and the pit exit. It's also close to the pits so when the race is over it's a short dash to the podium (after you bust through the fencing like everybody else does).

Foreign buyers not gobbling up Vancouver houses by proudbedwetterin vancouver

[–]CanSpice 11 points12 points ago

In 2006 in Vancouver proper (i.e. not the GVRD) there were 571,600 people living in the city, out of which 291,740 were a visible minority. This means that 51% of the people living in Vancouver in 2006 were visible minorities.

That "triforce" was used on the Black Sabbath "Never Say Die!" album, which was released in 1978, well before The Legend Of Zelda even came on the scene.

They also didn't credit the guy who invented the time machine, read your post on April 17th, then told them about it so they could post the poll on April 13th.

You know, I think the craziest part of this whole thing is in the NBC coverage the announcer says "Bertuzzi" just after Weber turnbuckles Zetterberg.

Why don't more players wear full shield visors? by drturkturkletonin hockey

[–]CanSpice 0 points1 point ago

The chinguard really blocks vision when the puck is in the player's feet. That's probably the primary reason behind it not being used unless absolutely necessary in the NHL.

Doesn't mean I can't hate the guy. Claude Lemieux has been retired for years and I still hate him. And don't get me started on Mark Messier.
