The difference seems to be that it's not socially acceptable to be racist in the US, but it is (or at least not looked down on as much) in some European countries.

Not to mention that the SF stadiums are privately financed (or so I read about this new arena) so the city is win-win on this. Not like most cases where cities pay millions for stadiums and never make that money back.

People in SF don't tend to go to the East Bay (Oakland, Berkeley) much and vice versa. Fan bases are split. Mostly San Francisco and the Peninsula (area south of SF) tend to root for SF teams while the East Bay tends to root for Oakland teams.

The ownership group has plans and money for a stadium, but no team. Looked like it might be the Vikings, but their stadium deal just got signed, so only a few other options (Jags, Chargers, Raiders)

Thanks for posting this. I haven't done research, but I was wondering why Recology was so against this. Seems like they would still get the contract, but at a lower rate to consumers and with paying a fee to the city.

I highly recommend Brenda's French Soul Food, but keep in mind that a lot of these places don't take reservations and you will be waiting a long time (an hour or more) if you don't get there early.

It's here to stay. I hate that we re-upped with them for not even that much money for the next 10 years. I hope there is an escape clause so that 5 years down the line, if/when MLS really takes off, we wont be locked when we could be making more.

We had a referendum in California and the majority voted against it. But there are a few factors in that. Mainly, not everyone votes, and the law was badly written, so some in favor of legalization voted against it.

I always have chat off. Seems easier that way. No one really responds to chat and you don't have to worry about chatting with people when you don't feel like it. Plus you avoid situations like that one.

No, I'm recovering from two crazy weekends. Copa Del Rey final is on Friday. I live in the US, so plenty of MLS to follow until the Euros. It's kinda nice to have a short break.
