Read you wrong then.

Continuing on my former monologue:

I also miss links in the sidebar to definitions of the notation used in articles. Say I don't know set-theory and it's notation. How in the forks am I supposed to know what I need to learn in order to understand the definition of a scalar field in the first definition of a line integral? Because I don't know that it's set-theory I'm looking for. (True Story)

This is also a prime example of my former complaint. For someone looking to learn about Line integrals, set theory is completely irrelevant. Yet for an expert editing the articles, the connection may be clear as day. And I am sure if you go look up set-theory it's defined in terms of group theory, and if you go look up that, it's probably defined in terms of category theory or something equally esoteric.

Is this a problem? If it is true that each edit makes articles more and more abstract and high level, I think this could be a serious problem for the future of wikipedia.

Hey dude, no need for a defensive stance. Was merely looking for some discussion on wikipedia as a learning tool. Of course it was never meant to serve that purpose...

I have a feeling that every time an article is edited, tits recast into a slightly higher level language. End result being that you have to be an "expert" in a subject to even start to make sense of an article.

Another thing I feel makes wikipedia a bad learning tool can be described by a story like this: I look up a definition, and find a word I am unsure of. No problem, click and read up. Except this definition is in it's entirety made up of high level abstractions. So now I have 10 more defininitions to read. Recurse. It's like dependencies between articles often goes "upward" to a higher level of abstraction. They are seldom "grounded" to basic simple concepts, it seems. As an encyclopedia I suppose this is how it's supposed to be.

I sorely miss some semantic data on prerequesites for articles. With this information in hand, perhaps it could be possible to invert the dependencies, so that things can be explained in terms you already know, not in an everending succession of unknown terms.

Perhaps it could be possible to maintain something like 2 or 3 different versions of articles at differing levels of advancedness?

Wikipedia explanations are often pretty useless to someone who doesn't already understand the subject.

Better AI will probably help on that front. And not better as in super-awesome ideal player, but something that is stupid in a smart way.

I would really love a decent PRNG implemented on silicon too. Perhaps a full-on, super fast repeatable Perlin noise source, completely independent of the CPU. That would be nice.

I believe there is still room for a non-local theory with hidden variables. Having said that, I have very little idea what that means.

Greetings from the US, r/Norway - how is your country doing now that some time has passed since the massacre? by clvfanin Norway

The police have been involved in a couple of cowboy trigger happy incidents in the last couple of weeks that kind of worry me.

Both instances involved the police firing at vehicles in highly populated areas.

First instance: http://www.dagbladet.no/2012/03/22/nyheter/innenriks/trafikk/biljakt/20797877/ Notice the photo on the bottom. Firing at tires less than a meter away from innocent bystanders...

Second instance: http://www.dagbladet.no/2012/04/11/nyheter/skudd/biljakt/innenriks/politi/21055374/ First photo in article. Notice how the driver of the police-car has been firing through his/her own windshield...

I have heard little to no discussion on either of them, apart from some articles on online newspapers with comments shut off. *Suspicious

If you're american this may or may not seem like much, but this is a far cry from the usual methods of norwegian police.

To expand on the "far back"-answer you already got: If the first rocket doesn't disable, the reaction of many tankers is to back up fast. You want to make sure you're still behind the tank after this.

But then you could potentially fly through walls. Notice the ammo box, how it is a moving colliding object for a while, and then turns immovable and un-colliding. Hard to pull off the same trick with something like the MAV, without introducing different types of collision boxes or some serious special casing, and with it the potential for a shitload of new bugs.
