The shuttle bus is for students and staff only, you've gotta show your Monash ID, I'm a student and they didn't let me on without it, despite lots of other corroborating documents that I had on me.

Tomato sauce (ketchup). I usually use the nozzle of the sauce bottle to pierce the crust and fill the top 'til the sauce bleeds out.

Teachers, what was your biggest screw up ever while teaching a class? by WeLikeSportzin AskReddit

[–]Brododium 4 points5 points ago

I unwittingly wrote 'cunt' on the board in Spanish class teaching 8 year old kids.

The story is that I was teaching them adjectives to describe their best friends, I usually get the kids to suggest to me some words to translate. All the usual adjectives came up (the ones I'd prepared for) but one child asked me to translate 'chocho' which (in my dictionary) translated only as doting/doddering/senile, which I promptly wrote on the board next to the Spanish gloss.

Now the parents are out for my blood thinking I was teaching their sprog to cuss in English.

Different regions have been paid differently, Andalusia is on the better end of the scale and I've been paid on time, monthly. Some friends of mine have been about one month behind in payments but towards Barcelona and Catalunya it gets worse. I saved up a lot of money working before I came (as recommended) but those who relied on the government payments are up shit creek.

In terms of the work, depends on the school, I love mine to bits but again others aren't so lucky.

My sister taught math to 4th graders in China. Honest mistake. :) by tinatinatinatinain funny

[–]Brododium 1 point2 points ago

Yes and no, in China it's not uncommon to see angular brackets << >> used as quotation marks (especially for book titles and the likes). Here the student probably assumed that 'or' was placed in single brackets and read the sentence as: "Write 'or'."

Hey!

I'm an English teacher living in Cordoba right now, I'm doing a government programme as an Auxiliare de Conversacion which has me as a teaching assistant in a town 12 hours a week with 6 additional hours of 'clases particulares'. Clases particulares are basically one-on-one tutoring (or up to about ~10/12 students and still be considered 'particulares').

In my classes I'm teaching students from my school and the classes were organised outside of normal school hours (9 - 2) by the principal and parents. The smallest class I have is 6 students aged around 11 and the largest is 14 students aged around 8 (amongst others). They take two hours of classes a week.

Per pupil it comes to 2.5 euro an hour, this rate is heavily discounted given the number of students I teach an hour. I also take Spanish classes three times a week, one with a private tutor (for whom I pay 40 euro a month for 4 one-hour weekly sessions, 10 euro a lesson) and two hours a week at a local language school (50 euro for 8 hours, or 6.25 euro a lesson, there are 4 students in class).

So, looking at the sliding scale, 1:1 classes start usually about 10 euros an hour with sequential discounts. Keep in mind that these are considered 'anticrisis' prices as many teachers have lowered their hourly rate to ease the burden on their students. English is the most-demanded language in Cordoba (citation needed) so you can charge a premium of sorts based on your qualifications, my flatmate (French) is paid a near pittance for his equivalent hours of work (about half my rate). You will be paid in cash and students won't be averse to paying in antelacion.

The teaching depends on the individual student/s, many are looking for simple conversation practice and others starting from scratch. Usually those at a higher level will seek 'intercambios' or language exchange (e.g. half an hour Spanish, half hour English for both speakers), you'll attract fewer students with better spoken English given their propensity to seek out these intercambios, it's good to have a few just for social reasons/trying out ideas.

I can't really help you with your class without knowing her level of English, but you shouldn't have a hard time planning classes given the wealth of information on the net.

Three more things, firstly is do you speak Spanish (I'm assuming yes, but gotta ask)? Secondly is that there's a FB page for Auxiliares (teaching assistants) in Cordoba, but it's open to English teachers in general. Feel free to join that and post! A lot of teachers will be leaving in June/July and passing on their students. Finally you can search r/Spain or post there, they've probably got a few tips I don't.

Sorry if this isn't comprehensible or comprehensive, my flatmate's playing music loudly and I'm having a hard time ordering my thoughts, feel free to PM me before you arrive and I'd be glad to meet you when you get here!

What other subclasses exist in TF2? by Loyal_Dashin tf2

Dr Enforcicle. Enforcer, Dead Ringer, Spycicle Spy - pretty much what I'd roll in pubs if I had a Spycicle. Rinse repeat and watch the backstabs stack up.

My annotated pyro series returned! by FloppehFeeshin tf2

[–]Brododium 0 points1 point ago

What was the reason for you accidentally switching to the maul every now and again? What do you have your weapons mapped to? Do you keep the maul equipped exclusively for taking out buildings (like 1 shotting minisentries)? given that you weren't really pybro-ing (or really spychecking either).

With the pyro death in the sniper house, you could possibly have out-dpsed them with your flamethrower as they came up the stairs, their flame particles being blocked and them walking into yours, still, Pyro v Pyro battles are often illogical.

How did that round end, did BLU win?

The SpyHeavy's death was pretty much identical to many Spy deaths, soaked in piss and set alight trying to take down a tele. I gotta say that FatSpy was definitely playing the part.

It doesn't override the scoreboard check, you can assign multiple binds to one key. So in this case it would both check the Scoreboard and play the voice comm.

If your mini sentry is low or out of ammo, don't fill it. It costs more than 100 metal to fill. Just destroy it and build a new one.

You can't repair or restock minisentries, so this isn't even a problem.

I'd also recommend using the FJ even if you don't have good aim. If you've got a pistol as your secondary I'd use that until the FJ stocks up some crits. Your aim doesn't have to be -that- good (it's not the Ambassador or a sniper rifle) and you can decently one-shot scouts with your minisentry out harassing.

Fighting mini sentries - Protip by Brododiumin tf2

[–]Brododium[S] 0 points1 point ago

No worries, I'm an engie main but I hate fighting against mini sentries or simply being chipped away by a well-secreted sentry. As an engie there's little to do to counter one directly so I rely on teammates to do the job for me!

Fighting mini sentries - Protip by Brododiumin tf2

[–]Brododium[S] 2 points3 points ago

Like you when it comes to sentries and buildings lvls 1 - 3 I almost always focus fire when they're sapped, looking at the rates for them to be destroyed by sappers

Level 1: 6.00 s

Level 2: 7.20 s

Level 3: 8.64 s

Mini-Sentry: 4.00 s

I think there's more of a window for an engy to save lvls 1 - 3 when simply Spy v Engy, plus teleporters have a shitload of health and any class at spawn could change to HW pyro or engy to remove it at the other end.

[–]Brododium[S] 2 points3 points ago*

You're mistaken, if you could destroy sapped sentries you'd be denying the destruction to the spy (a bit like suiciding to deny a kill). The only way to replace it is to wait until the sentry has been sapped.

From the TF2 wiki:

The Demolish Tool cannot be used to destroy buildings currently being sapped by the Electro Sapper.

Keeping this in mind it's better to pressure an engineer when they're waiting to replace their minisentry - i.e. they don't know whether to continue with shotgun/pistol or wait until the last sentry has died. There's been many a time when I've fumbled in the heat of the moment with a pyro on me and replaced my sentry with a dispenser, or had the blueprint out when I meant to have my primary, so anecdotally without that backup my usual plans fall through.

When did you decide to make the switch into competitive tf2? by Not_The_Real_Thorin tf2

[–]Brododium 1 point2 points ago

Yesterday. After ~800 hours of pubbing I just popped my cherry on TF2 lobby and played six games as Medic (two on Snakewater, two on Granary, two on Badlands). It's a totally different ballgame, I don't think I'm gunna give up pubbing for good (I love my Pyro and Engie too much and they don't have a place in 6V6). I think I'll cut my teeth here a while, need to nut out communication and rollouts.
