Ecstasy-related deaths in B.C., Alberta spark debate over how to fix poisonous problem by Huxley135in canada

*legalize and regulate

Legalization without regulation of these substances would result in similar shit, just with large companies doing it for their profit margins...

For selling, there should also be a license to apply for, so people know that the product is on the level.

It'd certainly make things more difficult in the short term, as one can see with the dispensaries in the California, but it's something I consider important for creating a sense of veracity (if I'm using the word correctly...)

I believe you're refferring to heroin overdosage, which most often comes from the user receiving a bag of the stuff that's far more potent than what they are used to. Loading up their usual dosage volume, they put way more of the actual heroin into their system than they were expecting, often resulting in ODing.

This is due to the inconsistency of quality and purity, a problem that can be solved by regulation of the product.

Well, there's always the danger of overdosing on booze, but same with damn near anything. It's a personal responsibility, in this respect.

If the booze has poisons in it, and someone has too much, I would say the responsibility lies with both the manufacturer, and the laws that prevent regulation.

What else is there? Honestly, enlighten me

PMMA-laced ecstasy, and the steps being taken to address the recent spate of deaths. by OneRainyNightin Drugs

It could be spun to a certain light, though.

This shit happened with alcohol during its prohibition. Booze was fancied up with cheap crap that killed people, so it'd sell better.

Thus, an comparison between legal and illegal substances can be started

Uh...you realize alcohol went through exactly this, right?

During its prohibition, it was mixed with all kinds of crap that was cheap. People died from it.

It was later re-legalized and regulated, as I'm sure you'e well aware. No problems there, really, aside from drunk driving et al.

People don't want a dangerous high, that's why (I assume) most people would chose some brand-product of spirit over some moonshine cooked up in Jeb's basement.

Legalize and regulate that shit.

Or alternatively, raise awareness about testing kits!

Also:

"The mother of 18-year-old Calgarian Daniel Dahl remembers watching her son’s brains bleed out his nose in the emergency room after he overdosed on ecstasy, his body temperature rising so rapidly that he was cooked from the inside."

WTF, for serious?

I wonder if there's testing kits out there for this. Seems to be to be the most straightforward solution.

I would prefer legalization and regulation of the substance, but that's certainly a long time off.

EDIT: Stupid question. There are indeed such kits...

Aye, I agree. C11 is a lot more reasonable than SOPA, but unfortunately it gives a lot of power to corporate copyright owners.

Instead of lamenting how it won't pass, start asking yourself what you can do to help make it pass. Defeatism is a sickness.
