Diablo 3's Launch Fiasco Proves Video Game Journalism Fails by Otis_Infin gaming

Or last night around 1am PST when the servers were down for maintenance.

Or whenever the login servers are down due to a power outage or disrupted service in the area.

Or when your internet is down and you're waiting for a technician to come fix it.

$5 now or $5 later, I figure it's worth it. Would love to revamp my Tab 10.1's UI to something a little more useful. Right now it just serves as a launcher. This looks like it could be just what I want!

Follow NECA's Facebook and Twitter. They'll post updates as to where and when you can pre-order these. When they post the stores, stay away from the larger ones (they'll sell out right away) like Thinkgeek unless you see the announcement right when it posts.

I got mine off Amazon, after pre-ordering it elsewhere and then seeing Amazon had some still available. Prime free shipping > $40 shipping the other place was asking

It took me over a year and cost me over 100k but finally I'm done. Finally I have it!! by SuperSmurfenin wow

Pop on over to http://www.warcraftpets.com/ and create an account. Makes it pretty easy to see what you're missing, and see what it takes to get them. Also lets you see how you compare with others on your server.

Here's mine http://www.warcraftpets.com/account/profiles/daergar/#col

Considering NECA is producing another 5,000 Aperture Science Handheld Portal Devices, this time styled as one of the two Co-op guns, and they should be the same price as before ($130ish)...

Yes. Yes you are.

I wish there was a better answer than this, but I think KudosMcGee has the right of it. Kids are idiots and jerks about 95% of the time. If it wasn't your faith, it would be something else.

When I was in Elementary school, we had a small computer lab with about 30 Apple IIe's. Around 4th grade, a large group of us started carrying around floppy disks with various games like Sim Ant, or some cool adventure game I don't remember the name of.

And Bolo

Bolo was an Appletalk tank game, which supported a fair number of players on the same map. Players could ally with each other, build pillboxes/tarmac/walls to defend an area of land, and blow blow each other up a lot. Sadly, it didn't play well with the Appletalk printers, causing print jobs to become lost or truncated. This pissed off a lot of teachers, and eventually they blamed Bolo. The game was banned from the school.

That didn't stop us, obviously. The room was set up in such a way that one computer was on the far side of a low wall, the monitor hidden from view from the rest of the room. He also had decent line-of-sight to spot when a teacher was coming our way. Any time one showed up, everyone but the lookout would quit Bolo and start playing something else. Once the teacher was gone, we'd rejoin the game and (since the map was still active) pick up where we left off.

Once, I got caught :( The teacher made it very clear she was disappointed in me, and made me reformat the disk while she watched. I'm sure she felt the matter was resolved.

Thankfully, she didn't have me reformat the half-dozen other disks with Bolo I had in my bag :D

Stephen Fry's documentary series Planet Word has an episode on swearing, and they even demonstrate this study. Fry and Brian Blessed stick their hand in ice-cold water, and time how long they can keep their hand in the water while swearing. Then they do it again without being able to swear.

I'll let you guess which one ends up being longer ;)

It's so sad to see a good author change over time to become such an ugly person :/ And it's interesting to chart how his personal views changed his writing.

The Earthbound series may be a re-telling of the Book of Mormon, but it's still a great read (I didn't know it was until after I'd finished the series). It's entertaining sci-fi, and it didn't feel preachy despite being based on a holy book.

Empire, on the other hand, is Card beating you in the face with his personal views from beginning to end. The OP said he felt dirty after finding out about Card's personal views. Personally, I knew them and ignored them until I read Empire. After that, you couldn't pay me to read another OSC book.

(And I think the Shadow series was a travesty. But that's a different rant)

Agreed. I like to think of his books as futuristic Archaeology/Anthropology fiction, and it's surprisingly entertaining!

For some reason, I think this is my favorite piece of trivia regarding Ender's Game. It was my favorite novel for a really long time, I own multiple copies and editions (including a hardback with an unedited, surprisingly racist conversation between Ender and Alai), and the original Analog issue that the short story was printed in... All of this because Card got half-way through writing Speaker and realized the it made no sense without the main character being this kid from a short story he'd written years before (1977)

Why do people dislike Tribes: Vengeance? by rda_Highlanderin Tribes

[–]Blitzkrieg999 2 points3 points ago

Played Tribes competitively, Tribes 2 as well for a short time. Got to visit Sierra HQ (after all the other teams were gone, and it was a mostly empty building) with Colossus and several other Seattle-area locals to record some very early footage, just Deathmatch on a small map with a few broken structures. It was alright, but DM on a small map isn't a great showcase for a Tribes game.

When Vengeance beta was passed out at the Tribal Wars LAN, I enjoyed it a ton. The Grappler was an awesome tool, great for affecting your maneuverability in a game that already had a lot of movement to it.

If you watch some of the old videos that players like JodoFett (IIRC) did, you can see how the Grappler made for some really interesting cap routes. Being able to change direction so quickly was pretty amazing if you knew what you were doing.

When the first (and only, I think?) patch came down and nerfed the Grappler, the game was already on the decline. That just killed it for me. Then the devs were working on a 'final' patch, and had their studio closed by higher-ups before they could release it. That guaranteed the game was dead, and wouldn't be revived.
