TROPHY CASE

Dumbest person ever? by nickburnin8in Military

[–]BarrogaPoga 0 points1 point ago

I knew a guy that became a Mineman because it had the same initials as his home state of Minnesota - MN. Not even joking. That dude was serious.

Your mom is large and wide.

[–]BarrogaPoga 8 points9 points ago

Nah. We both went to different colleges. We keep in touch. I didn't expect anything out of it. He had already bought his date a ticket to prom, rented the tux and everything. I got a free ticket, free (prom) food, and got to experience an inner city prom. It was fascinating to say the least. I never expected anything in return.

One of my best friends was stood up 3 days before prom. He called me up and we went together. I had a dress ready to go, heels and the works. We had an awesome time.

I went to 5 proms and got all mine at JCP and Boscovs on super clearance the year before or off season. I was the standby date for all my friends and always had an outfit ready to go. I never spent more than $20-30 bucks on a dress.

What kinds of options and benefits are there to joining the Military straight out of college? by McSpudingtonJrin Military

[–]BarrogaPoga 0 points1 point ago

I enlisted with a degree. Best decision ever. Officers are assholes. I like the enlisted side. Chiefs are the shit, everyone is pretty chill and i like doing work for a change. Maybe i'll go OCS later, but for now, the Navy is paying for my housing, paying off my student loans, and training me for a job i'd never thought i'd have in a million years.

Sure, being at the bottom of the food chain sucks, but i've made some great friends and learned humility and to be humble in the face of those more experienced and better educated than me.

Goodbyes Never Get Any Easier In The Military - By LT Max Long Military Dad by ttruth1in navy

[–]BarrogaPoga 2 points3 points ago

Yeah that's one thing that sucks about the military. I've made some really great friends and i've had to say goodbye to most of them. I'm in San Diego, and the majority of my friends got orders to the East coast. One by one, i've watched them go, while i've stayed behind. It definitely doesn't get any easier over time.

We've all been or are going to bootcamp. What do you remember most from bootcamp? by mikethegreat26in Military

[–]BarrogaPoga 3 points4 points ago

I was one of the tallest in my division and a female. I had to roadguard all the time and practically run to keep up with the morons in the front. The guys at the back were hilarious though, so it made it worth it. One guy would make fart noises while we were supposed to be in a silent height line. The other guys would imitate the RDC's and the "fabulous" aroc we had. I laughed my way through boot camp.

what is a bad film to you? by secretvictoryin movies

[–]BarrogaPoga -2 points-1 points ago

I just came from The Avengers and didn't care for it. I found it entirely too long. It felt like Transformers 3 - they could have cut out an hour's worth of story line. I liked the other movies that led up to this one, but just couldn't get into the film. It's a shame too, because it seems like everyone else liked it.

A girl at my base got masted for an ARI for underage drinking, not once, but twice. A couple months later, she got masted for a DUI. She has faced DRB's numerous times and has been reprimanded time and again for her bad attitude. Yet my buddy diagnosed with mild -treatable- narcolepsy is being forced out. He volunteers for more watches to help his shipmates out. He's smart, in shape, and loves the Navy, but he'll likely be kicked out this year.

I'm tired of seeing sailors getting a slap on the wrist at masts. If you're stupid enough to drink underage at the bar across from the base, you're likely to do something really stupid on the ship and i don't want you there.

In your opinion what is the best job and why? by FunkyFresh707in navy

[–]BarrogaPoga 1 point2 points ago

MC - they get to travel all over, take nice pictures, write a few stories, meet bigwigs, fly in jets. Man i'd love to be an MC.

It really depends on what you like. I enjoy being a sonar tech, even though my passion is with languages and intel. Would you rather sit in a cold, dark room all day, or be constantly moving and fixing stuff?

[–]BarrogaPoga[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yeah. We got there about an hour or so before the doors opened and just chatted with other people in line. It wasn't too bad. We ended up getting good seats and free popcorn and soda before they ran out. CSADD took some people from my base down there around 1700 and they had to get seats in the back.

One of the best scenes in a military movie ever. by MaineEvent207in Military

I watched this movie on base in Coronado with a room full of Seals and other sailors. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. I love this movie.

According to my buddy in the reserves, you become a huge dick. Don't be a dick to the reservists. They're (technically) Navy too.

What is the dumbest thing you have seen someone get kicked out of the military for? by tooth1pickin navy

[–]BarrogaPoga 1 point2 points ago

Also while i was stationed on a sub a chief on a different boat got caught raping his daughter so he got busted down to E1 and sent to military prison.

Holy shit. The justice system was working that day.

Can anyone help me understand the PCS/moving process? by TheYellowRosein navy

[–]BarrogaPoga 0 points1 point ago

If they're flying him out here, then yes, he has to get on the plane. But, they'll reimburse him for flying back out to Texas to come and get you and drive out to SD. Tell him to save his 10 days of leave for the drive out. ORM states that you guys can only drive 8 hours per day. Therefore, they're going to force you to take like 2 weeks to drive out here. He'll have to use his personal leave to drive if he doesn't use the house hunting leave toward your move.

Can't you still get an expeditionary warfare pin? That shit is worth its weight in gold.

PS. When did you get out of great lakes? I've got a lot of ET buddies still suffering up there haha.
