It is your responsibly to have your opponent cut?!? by Liquidskain magicTCG

[–]BananaSlim 0 points1 point ago

Where did you put your deck down?

It sounds like you just put it in it's normal spot? In which case it is a little shady.

Or did you put it in the middle of the table and motion or say something to him. If that's the case you've got more of a leg to stand on.

Seems to be a lot less variance than the versions that run like 8 islands, 8 mountains and split their creatures between blue and red. I've played those lists and they're huge variance, since you'll often be colour screwed one way or the other.

After many years I'm thinking of playing again for fun with my daughter. Do any of you print decks to play for fun? by scherzoxin magicTCG

[–]BananaSlim 0 points1 point ago

i've done this before and it's certainly nicer to play with than sharpie on a land. I do this for cards I think I'll be proxying a fair bit for testing different decks. I also did a bunch when I had some friends who were fairly new to the game coming over, so they could play some of my brewed decks that were missing cards, and they'd actually know what the card did, as the proxies were at the time mostly just card names written in sharpie

The quicker, faster way, that's still pretty good, is to just print the proxies out on magiccards.info on normal paper, cut them out, and slide them into the sleeve with a land or something.

my tips are try to bias the mana base towards blue, and probably keep with running all blue creatures. I'd stick to cheaper burn over Brimstone. Stuff like Pillar of Flame, Galv Blast, and Incinerate (for those pesky Wolfir Avengers). Cut a pike or two, and run a set of thought scour.

To be honest, just check out the UR Delver list that won GP Minnisota last weekend. I've been skeptical of the UR Delver list being able to be really good because of the poor mana base, but he biased it towards blue which definitely helps. His is the best list I've seen, and obviously was good enough to win. I'll be interested to see if it can provide consistent enough regular to be a top contender.

Cavern of souls, mana leak... by Tezzy74in magicTCG

[–]BananaSlim 0 points1 point ago

I think most decks that ran Mana Leak before Caverns will still want them post caverns. Maybe cut down a mana leak or something, but they're still extremely good and hit lots of spells, and sometimes they just won't have a Cavern when they need it

I've had my Nexus S for a little over a year now. Never has a case or screen protector touched it. It's been dropped 3 or 4 times. Once was even in the parking lot and it skidded across the pavement a bit.

It has a couple pretty minor scratches, but that's it. None of them are really noticeable unless you look (I had to look a couple times to find them before writing this post)

What did you do with the oversized card you got at the Helvault event? by EyeoftheRedKingin magicTCG

[–]BananaSlim 1 point2 points ago

I gave it to another regular at the store who needed it to complete his collection of one of each

If I hadn't done that it would have sat around on a shelf until I eventually threw it out. pretty sure that's what happened to the oversized versions I got with my commander deck

Five Delver decks in the GP Minneapolis Top 8 by scribblenutsin magicTCG

[–]BananaSlim 0 points1 point ago

Pretty cool to see UR Delver win

I was pretty convinced it wasn't a "real" deck, having played with it a bit when it first was popular when ISD came out. The mana base was just bad. I knew for it to be successful it has to heavily favour blue, so I like the way this deck went. Looks like the red in the maindeck is just bonfire and burn. I like it, I might consider running with it at my next FNM

What deck do you play? by DeadlyLotusin magicTCG

[–]BananaSlim 0 points1 point ago

I've got a few different decks for most formats, but here are my go-to decks

Standard: UW Delver Modern: Some flavour of Tron Legacy: Dredge

I'm pretty new to both Modern and Legacy. In Modern I just want to hard cast Emrakuls, it's as simple as that. In Legacy Dredge seems fun and different and was relatively cheap.

Standard is UW Delver mostly just because I've been playing it since it was MonoBlue Illusions. I've swapped out to a different deck now and then, but mostly it's been that

None of what they said makes any sense. Her Indestructible ability isn't an Enters the Battlefield triggered ability, it just is. As soon as she hits the battlefield, her and everything else you control are indestructible. Which means his Doomblade would do nothing.

Can you bring your own boosters to a draft AND open them yourself? by GhostChiliin magicTCG

[–]BananaSlim 25 points26 points ago

Since this is just a casual playgroup, I don't really see a problem with it.

Ideally, yes, he should mix them in. But it's not hard to just check that they're still sealed, etc. Plus it's just a friendly draft, it takes a special kind of douche to cheat at a friendly casual draft amongst friends.

As far as rotation goes, think of Core sets as the 4th set of a block. They're not actually part of the block, so you don't get them in Block Constructed or things like that. But they rotate out with the block preceding them

two huntmaster of the fells on the field by doob10163in magicTCG

[–]BananaSlim 9 points10 points ago

The triggers all go on the stack in the order of Active Player's first, then non-active player in clockwise order.

Top one resolves, Huntmaster flips, Damage trigger from flip goes on the stack, then resolves

So if 2 players have a huntmaster out and they both flip, the Non-Active Player's transform trigger resolves first, allowing it to kill the other player's huntmaster before it gets a chance to transform

This is why people often sideboard out Huntmasters on the draw against other players using Huntmaster.

You're booster drafting and you have access to any card in Avacyn Restored. What is your first pick and why? by Mid_squadin magicTCG

[–]BananaSlim 0 points1 point ago

This is true, but it's not quite so clear imo. Bonfire has the advantage that the damage is immediate. And it's a lot of damage, between bonfire itself, then your swing in with creatures, a good amount of the time it's lethal that turn. If instead you were to Entreat that same turn, you've still got to wait a turn to possibly win. That gives them a chance for them to find an answer in the form of removal, their own Entreat/bonfire/terminus, etc. Also if they have some blockers, it might take a couple turns to push lethal damage through with Entreat

One sided wraths are extremely powerful. Killing their board while leaving yours untouched is huge.

Then possibly the biggest upside Bonfire has is the fact that both the hardcast cost and miracle cost are single red. It's easily splashable. So you could play it as your only red card. But you cannot splash Entreat. Obviously first picking it you go heavy white afterwards, but if for some reason you're getting cut hard in white, you might be out of luck, but you can always splash that Bonfire. Also that single coloured mana source is a little easier to hit reliably than the double/triple white of Entreat

I think Entreat is VERY strong, and probably a close second, but I still think Bonfire is the better card.

Sleeves sticking... solution? by ThatDudeAbidesin magicTCG

[–]BananaSlim 0 points1 point ago

Sleeves don't last forever

But I find sleeves with textured backs to not really have this issue. This means basically the cheap ultrapros, or the better Ultra Pro Pro-Matte series.

I just cut my deck in half, shuffle each half, and then shuffle half from one pile to half of the other pile, etc. It's not that hard to shuffle

[–]BananaSlim 1 point2 points ago

Bonfire is also a kill condition. Especially if you miracle it you're dealing damage to them equal to the number of angels you would have made, plus 1. As well probably wrathing their board, so you're also dealing damage equal to the power of all your creatures.

[–]BananaSlim 3 points4 points ago

Bonfire of the Damned.

Entreat the Angels is really good, but I think I'd rather have bonfire as it's slightly easier to hard cast, and the miracle cost is less colour dependant, and it's splashable. It could be my only red card and I'd splash for it. You can't splash Entreat the Angels

Comments on my U/R Delver Burn deck (Standard) by Baconigmain magicTCG

[–]BananaSlim 0 points1 point ago

Seems mostly ok.

Let me start off by saying what I always say that is wrong with UR Delver decks. The mana base is crap. You're playing all 1 drop creatures, but each one only has 8 mana sources that can actually cast it. There are going to be so many games where you have a bunch of mountains and all blue spells, or a bunch of islands and all red spells. I've played UR Delver back when ISD came out and that was probably it's single biggest weakness. The mana base just does not do a good job of supporting it, it needs another set of UR lands that hopefully will arrive with Ravnica in the fall. I haven't tried Evolving Wilds, but a few Evolving wilds might help your overall mana, even while it hurts your 1 drops further.

That said, when the mana does work out for you, it's a fun deck, so I see why people want to build it. My suggestions are: I really don't like Reverberate. It's not really a good card and I don't think you should run it. I'd run Thought Scour over think twice, it's still instant, and it works really well with your Pike. I don't like Vexing Devil, I think it's just a bad card. I'd much rather have 4 Stromkirk Nobles. I assume you don't have any Snapcaster Mages? The deck works a lot better with them.

He plays 4x Think Twice AND 4x Thought Scour

Thought Scour also mills you into Feeling of Dreads and works as a finisher if Tamiyo ever ultimates, by milling them for 2 for each blue mana spent.
