A screenshot from my first iPhone app I'm working on.. Using the accelerometer, you catch apples with the bucket.. What do you think? (please be easy on the trolling, I'm only 16) by Gierkejin gamedev

[–]AttackingHobo -2 points-1 points ago

I hate accelerometer based games. Most of the time I play mobile games is when I am a passenger in a vehicle. And the turning of vehicle makes the game unplayable.

Am I doing something wrong with the mav? by ahennemin battlefield3

Increase your field of view. Higher FOV gives the illusion of faster speed.

Unplug your joystick. An xbox controller on the ground might be causing your forward speed to not be 100%.

[Rylod Dev Update] Quick video of combat with two new AI, along with player damage and shield/health regen! by Vartibin gamedev

[–]AttackingHobo 0 points1 point ago

Well they don't have to have the same graphics. I would suggest making the enemy bullets larger and slower so they can be dodged, but make the player bullets extremely fast.

It adds a challenge to dodging bullets instead of just staying out of sight.

While faster player bullets are rewarding when taking on tons of guys at once.

Record a video?

It could be motion blur from your screen.

Or it could be from drawing pixels to non whole integer positions which could make things change size by one pixel randomly.

I think the health is too high for both the players and the robots. Also the robots should need line of sight to go after the player; they should not "know" where the player is at all times.

The bullets are near invisible. Try unfocusing your eyes just a little bit and the bullets are impossible to see. You could make the bullets have tracers to see them better.

The bullets are a bit slow as well. Enemy bullets are more fun when you can dodge them, but the player bullets should be faster to make up for the fact that its 1 versus many enemies.

Kind of hard to see everything. Needs to have larger lines and more contrast in the image; currently the image is mainly black.

I'm hesitant to talk about my game before I mostly finish it because I'm afraid someone will "steal" my idea. Am I being paranoid? by Vorporealin gamedev

No, there are ton of 1-1 clones of popular games out there on the mobile devices.

As in every single gameplay element, to the menu design, to the levels themselves all copied over with "new" graphics.

Java Static variables use in programming by othersProblemsin gamedev

[–]AttackingHobo -7 points-6 points ago

In some programming environments, the auto-complete shows different icons next to static variables.

Static functions are faster that dynamic functions, and you can only use static variables, or variables passed to the function for them. I think static variables are faster when used but I am not sure.

You know that static variables never need to be changed after you initialize them, so you don't have to worry about messing with them later on in the code.

There are more reasons but these are just some of the reasons I use static variables.

Ideas are dime a dozen. The implementation is the hard part.

Also at this very moment there is probably someone working on a similar game as you are.

Android Headed To The US Government And Military by sandossuin Android

[–]AttackingHobo 13 points14 points ago

Uhhh. Android is open source, meaning the military could build their own device or contract a company to build a device.

They can get whatever specifications they need.

There are tons of free mumble servers, and you can throw a simple server up on a local machine if you don't want to use a public server.

Why the hell don't you use mumble or Vent, skype is probably the worst program to communicate with for gaming.

You can do it that way. You can also sun brew the tea. Place a bunch of teabags in a large glass container and leave in the sun for a few hours, remove tea bags, add sugar and stir, add ice to cool down, and BAM iced tea.

Just wait for some idiot to come in here with a link to a poorly written "flash is dead" article. Those have come out like clockwork every year since 2005. Flash is not going anywhere.

Its really not though. On chrome javascript seems multiple times faster than running in firefox, or at least that is my experience with running intensive demos; in chrome they run >30 fps and with firefox sometimes around 5 fps if they don't freeze the browser completely.

Minecraft is by far too easy even with Hardcore mode. It seems each update just makes the game easier and easier.

Can Notch please include a mode that is nethack hard, cause I would love that.

I don't know why you would need a game engine.

Some simple actionscript in flash should be able to do what you need.
