This seems to happen quite a bit in our region... by tiff_seattlein Seattle

[–]Ashlynkat 1 point2 points ago

Last summer the Seattle Times had an article that said something to the effect that if the one of the early light rail proposals in the 1990s went through without any hang ups/endless voter referendums, etc that by the summer of 2012 the Seattle area would have had complete light rail system linking Everett to Tacoma with a track that ran parallel to 405 on the Eastside.

It makes me sick thinking that about that every day I hit the southbound I-5 traffic at Northgate in the evening.

Hey Killercacti, a couple folks over at the /r/ainbow thread suggested that a different font might work better with your design.

Now that I've got the Spread Shirt shop up and running, I would love to add your design to some items. Do you have an idea for another font that make stand out better?

r/ainbow, over at r/actuallesbians we're working to reclaim the Pro-Family banner for ALL families. Do you want to help and make a difference? by Ashlynkatin ainbow

Update #2 Got one of the pro-family designs up and running on a Spread Shirt shop. Each month we will have 100% of the profits going to a pro-family/pro-gay rights org.

For June, which will start a little early, that org will be Minnesotans United for ALL Families who are fighting against a proposed constitutional amendment against gay marriage in that state. Check out the pro-family.org blog for more info about this great cause.

Snohomish County. Every time I'm in MO visiting family I pretty much insist on eating at Imos, Steak n' Shake, Mom's Deli (best hot roast beef with provel) or any local Italian place that serves toasted ravs for every meal. I'll refuse to eat anywhere that has the kind of food I can get outside of St. Louis.

I've emailed them to thank them for letting me know which gay-friendly business deserve my business.

It is a rather nice service they provide.

Yeah those were the ones I found most heartbreaking. Like you said, the kids don't know better and it is just so wrong to see them learning to hate as a way of life.

You're right. Still, it is essentially a $120,000 donation to a terrific cause. I think once word gets out, they will easily hit that mark in a few weeks.

That is a really great point and I haven't thought about it from that angle.

Not after they grabbed the item but your presence in the aisle/department sharply decreases the impulse and opportunity to grab the item in the first place.

Oh undoubtedly there has already been a bit of theft. But I'm guessing that corporate has determined that the loss is offset by the amount of "excitement" that is generated among customers at seeing the liquor out.

I mean look at this thread and the other threads/blogs that have popped up with similar pictures? Free publicity. Well almost free, minus the shrink but again shrink is going to happen regardless.

Yeah, employee coverage walking the area or having a wine steward is the best prevention for theft.

But alas, Safeway often yank their wine stewards to other departments and cashiering which will definitely shoot them in the foot with increase theft and liquor shrink.

I used to the be the wine steward at the Kenmore Safeway and the amount of theft in alcohol is obnoxious. I can only imagine how much more of a headache it will be with spirits--especially with the 24 hour stores.

Right now theft would be easy to detect with the shelves stocked to capacity so that anything missing=stolen but that area will need to be watched like a hawk once they start selling and inventory is moving. I'm sure security cameras in a lot of stores were adjusted to get that area better coverage but I still shudder at the thought of what shrink is going to be like at some of these stores.

As a contributor to the www.pro-family.org blog, I will say that constantly bringing up the family angle can be a powerful tool.

While anti-gay marriage opponents can not name a single way that heterosexual families are negatively impacted by gay marriage, the hundred of thousands of gay families in the US are gravely impacted everyday by being denied the basic rights and protection of marriage.

This point can be summed up with one statement that is easy to prove by pointing to the list of rights and benefits attached to marriage---Denying gay marriage hurts families.

Put your opponent on defense in trying to explain how society benefits by this deliberate and willful infliction of harm on other families.

I'd also pull data on Massachusetts, where gay marriage has been legal for years and, as far as I know, divorce rates are some of the lowest, if not the lowest, in the US. Exactly what impact has legalizing gay marriage had there?

This is a good approach, especially if your opponents start bringing up the "sanctity of marriage" line. Be frank, admit that the institution of marriage is in trouble but this is the doing of heterosexuals all by themselves with no-fault divorces, removal of adultery laws and loss of affection, etc.

The point to make is that if someone is truly concerned about the "sanctity of marriage" then gay marriage is the last thing they should be concerned with. (I know you don't want to go theological but this is where quoting Matthew 7:3-5 would be good)

If anything, allowing gay marriage enhances the sanctity of marriage because who values the importance of marriage more than than gays and lesbians who are desperately fighting to secure for their families the basic rights and protections that come with marriage? This ain't Brittney Spears "55 hour marriages" we're fighting for.

And that is a fine strategy to take. I just didn't know if being a Catholic school you would expect your opponent to bring up a theological angle.

How much theology and scripture do you want to get into? Because there is a way to answer all these objections in a biblically based manner. A lot of the other users have given very good secular answers but as a former Christian apologist (and pastor's wife who later came out of the closet), I can help with any theological or biblical arguments if you need.
