TROPHY CASE

What a Deal! by callum202in funny

True, but the chicken probably isn't the only thing you're buying. If you throw in a $1.96 pack of gum, you could say that the chicken ends up being 16c cheaper.

The difference between Sydney and Vancouver is not that drastic. While Sydney is in the top 10 most expensive cities, Vancouver is in the top 40, quite a few places ahead of New York.

Because it's too expensive to pay for staff to keep a place open for 24 hours. The minimum wage is double here, and labour laws require 30% extra pay for night shift workers. Plus their base rate is probably more than the minimum to start with. And unlike the States, the minimum wage for service workers that can receive tips is the same as everyone else's.

As much as I miss the plethora of 24hr joints elsewhere, I'll take sensible labour laws over that any day.

TIL Britney Spear was offered Rihanna's chart topper "Umbrella," but her label turned it down. Rihanna went on to take the song to the top spots in Australia, Canada, Germany, France, the Republic of Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. by ghast778in todayilearned

These days? Most of the songs of The Great American Songbook were done that way. Writers/composers like Cole Porter, the Gershwins, Arthur Freed, Irving Berlin, etc, would write songs then pitch them to performers like Bing Crosby or Frank Sinatra, or to the movie studios to have them performed by Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, or Gene Kelly. And it's been that way a long time before that.

It's probably the other way around: hair can be a big disadvantage in a fight (gives something for your opponent to grab or pull), so people who find themselves getting into fights a lot choose to shave their heads.

But, as always: correlation does not imply causation; confirmation bias; etc...

To be fair, since moving to Australia 5 years ago, I've gradually stopped using the terms autumn and spring. I don't get to see any of the environmental changes here that I associate with autumn (heaps of golden leaves, birds flying south, bare tree branches, etc) or spring (flowers everywhere, rivers of melted snow, lots of smells in the air). So if it's warm, it's summer; if it's cold, it's winter.

Other way around: the blog came first, and the short story copied it and added a lame ending. Except for all the supernatural embellishments, it's a completely true story. Source.

I was wondering what the difference was! I used to always complain about how difficult it is to steer shopping carts in the US, and now I finally know why.

Very surprised that so many of the commenters on the blog have the exact opposite sentiment. Especially with the more narrow aisles in Europe, there would be no way to maneuver the carts in a crowded supermarket if it weren't for 4-wheel steering.
