What Planned Parenthood actually does, in one chart by AllUNeedisL0VEin sex

"So though the fight over Planned Parenthood might be about abortion, Planned Parenthood itself isn’t about abortion. It’s primarily about contraception and reproductive health."

Birth Control with No Co-Pay? Department of Health and Human Services Says YES! by AllUNeedisL0VEin sex

This. Thats why I didn't post "free birth control," you obviously still need to pay for your health coverage but this is a big step in the right direction

Who actually enjoys their job? What do you do? What makes it enjoyable? by RyanFuller003in AskReddit

Im a teacher of the deaf and I absolutely love it! I work for a school for the Deaf in NYC. The pay is shit but the reward I get from seeing kids actually learn something and be proud of it is indescribable. Because my students communicate using American Sign Language, many of my students feel like outsiders amongst their family members, who havent taken the time or energy to learn the language. The staff, in turn, becomes their family and it really is a special bond. I recently started working at this particular school since I was laid off at a public school. I took a MAJOR pay cut moving schools but I am so happy with my decision. Most teacher don't get into this field for the money, or the hours, or summers off (which, not to get on a soap box but because of the shitty pay I've NEVER taken a summer off and have always had to work summer school). We get into this field because its something we truly love. Wish everyone could find their niche/dream job because I actually look forward to going into work everyday.

just wanted to clarify, when you say skip them, do you mean just not take them? Because in order for her to skip her period she needs to start a new pack on the first day she's supposed to take a reminder (dummy) pill. I've done this a number of times, after talking with my OBGYN, no damage done. Some people say their next period is often a bit heavier but I've luckily never experienced that.

New York State school official speaks out against using standardized test scores in teacher evaluations by progprofin education

this point seriously drives it home for those not in the field of education: "If these value-added techniques were applied to other professions as they are being applied to teachers, it would mean that dentists be would evaluated not on their skills but only on how many cavities a dentist’s patients gets in a year or with a doctor on how many times his patients get sick in a year."

If we were to propose such standards on other professions, people would be outraged! I'm all about teacher evaluation and making sure we have creditable teachers working to their full potential and expecting the same of their students, but this just seems like a no brainer. Linking teacher performance to high stakes testing isn't right. I remember going through my methods courses being told high stakes tests shouldnt be used in evaluating students LEARNING alone. How can these proposals of using it for teacher evaluation be fair?!
