(Spoilers) Kit discussion from Unicorn Episode 5 (Spoilers) by Naelphuain Gunpla

[–]AlexKnolly 0 points1 point ago

Immediately after watching Banshee thrash the Delta Plus I went ahead and ordered the MG Banshee from Hobbywave. I had originally pre-ordered it from HLJ but through a bit of a cock-up they sent some stuff early and I was so annoyed at paying double shipping that I cancelled my order. I threw in an MG Spallow while I was at it this time for good measure.

I only nab MGs from Unicorn, so I would definitely like an MG Rozen Zulu. I'm still desperately hoping for an MG Kshatriya one day, but I know it's probably in vain. Granted, they came out with the FA Unicorn so it's not like fucking huge MGs are that implausible.

Recently finished my MG Unicorn in Unicorn mode, have a MG Sinanju in backlog, and have a FA Unicorn in Destroy mode sitting on my shelf waiting for me to put LEDs in it.

If you're in no rush, shoot me a PM and I can get them to you in a few weeks. I'm currently at college so would have to wait until I visit home next to grab them, but I could send them to you for free.

Ah that sucks. Reminds me of the weirdest ride I had last week where I was incredibly lucky...

10 minutes in I detect some sort of large flying thing inside my helmet. I entered zen mode, pulled over, and took off my helmet to let a big wasp fly away. How the hell did he get in there. 5 minutes later pull over because there was a bug under my shirt. Knocked out a bee. What the hell nature?

Sweet concept of a Ferrari motorcycle... by davidvstheworldin motorcycles

Never in a million years will Ferrari build a motorcycle

Except they did make one:

How I spent my Saturday... by dieselnutin motorcycles

[–]AlexKnolly 1 point2 points ago

That would also be badass. The reason I thought the guy with the mobile home/garage was amazing was because the other half of the vehicle was still a mobile home, so he had a fairly nice place to sleep and whatnot in addition to a garage-on-wheels.

[–]AlexKnolly 0 points1 point ago

My thought exactly, haha. I have a list of things for my bike to get for when I'm tripping in cash.

Granted, the sweetest setup I ever saw at a track day was a guy who had a mobile home where half of it was a garage that he could just roll his bike into. I was super jelly.

If you search "motorcycle power lift" a few brands will pop up. They look super nifty if you can afford it, they run a bit over $2000.

So I caught my hand in a polishing machine and got 3rd degree friction burns...[NSFW] by amysplatin WTF

[–]AlexKnolly 1 point2 points ago

Ooooh yuck. I had assumed it was from hitting the road which is why I asked if they failed or if it was a friction burn. Yikes.

Just curious how you got that from racing if you were wearing gear. Did your leathers fail or was that from a friction burn?

Found This Out After I Got A Girlfriend by GenrlWashingtonin AdviceAnimals

I'm not saying that it justifies the price-gouging they do, but you need to realize the reason Japan can have amazing wireless is it's smaller than a decent chunk of US states. US operators have to have so much fricken' infrastructure compared to other countries that it's nuts.

Since you enjoyed my track day picture, here's how I got my 675 from Chicago to Ohio by AlexKnollyin motorcycles

[–]AlexKnolly[S] 0 points1 point ago

I was moving so I needed to bring a ton of crap with me in the car. I've rode my bike back and forth between Chicago and Ohio a few times but I just needed to bring two months worth of things with me this time instead of just a weekend's worth.

Botched a spray paint job, need advice by Porygon_is_innocentin Gunpla

I do the an enamel wash on just the lacquer paint without a top coat, the put an acrylic top coat of Future on the whole thing. But that's just my weird method haha.

Not sure why you got downvoted since you're right.

Holy shit that's embarrassing. My brain read it as "metal isn't made of atoms" for some reason. Mah bad.

What primer did you use?

If you spray lacquer on acrylic or enamel you're gonna have a bad time. See this chart: http://www.naritafamily.com/howto/paint.htm

Highly rate this helmet company for UK / EU residents. Great customer support and incredible amount of helmet for the price. by Venturain motorcycles

[–]AlexKnolly 4 points5 points ago

I have an XR1R Carbon in the US and love it. Also would like to point out customer support in the US is awesome too. I lost one of the tear-off posts to the clear visor and sent them an email, and no questions asked had a envelope full of spares within a week. Someone else I know broke one of the vents, and same deal, they immediately sent them a free replacement.

Awesome helmets and an awesome company.

Thought rideit might get a laugh from my tow setup for my trip from NY to FL. :) by Knoxie_89in motorcycles

[–]AlexKnolly 2 points3 points ago

Yup, I was pleasantly surprised how my Fiesta handled while towing. Small-ass cars ftw. Good thing everything is engineered with safety factors haha.

Yeah, I had read about that before but no one asked. If they did ask I'd just respond "furniture."

Then again posting photos online with my plates in full view might not have been the wisest thing, but oh well, haha.

I should have snagged some but I didn't, I'm sorry. I loaded it with a ramp very similar to this and was able to do it on my own with very little trouble, just pushed it up in N and kept my hand near the front brake to stop it whenever necessary.

The only clearance issue was my Puig Double Bubble windscreen cleared the top by only about an inch. If it didn't clear, it would have been simple enough to remove it for the trip. What I did though was just walk it up the ramp, to the front of the trailer, and then put down the kickstand to let it rest before I strapped it in using a Canyon Dancer and tie-downs in the back as well. While it is a bit low, I just basically sat on the floor of the trailer to tie it down. It was slightly inconvenient compared to the bigger trailer, but I got about 5-10 mpg more with the smaller one so I'm okay with the tradeoff.

Previous submission: Don't talk to me about "feasibility." I have a track day to go to!

This is the 4x8 U-Haul enclosed trailer, and is the lightest of the three trailers I've towed with my Fiesta. It handled MUCH better and got a lot better gas mileage than the 5x8 enclosed trailer or the open-bed utility trailer. Aerodynamics compared to my car was probably the biggest factor when comparing it to the 5x8.

The main message here: Anything can get a bike from point A to point B, so see if a hitch is available for whatever little car you might have and get to a track day.

Gotcha, thanks for the response! I haven't had a chance to ride the Scrambler so I've only read about the additional oomph that the engine gives. But I definitely agree that the Scrambler has practicality on its side, haha. I thought the Thruxton was a crazy amount of fun, but one impractical bike (675) is enough for me right now.
