Who knows good viewing spots to see and photograph the upcoming annular solar eclipse? by sipolocoin LasVegas

[–]AimsForNothing 0 points1 point ago

Well you want to be somewhere that allows you to see it well into sunset I suppose. So you don't want to be on the west side of town to close to the mountains, at the same time you don't want to be looking through all the smog of the city. Im thinking Corn Creek in the Desert National Wildlife Preserve, probably further up Mormon Well Rd though. It's dirt but easily drivable in a sedan.

Touche, McDonald's. Some of these actually look really good. by DontHateMasticatein food

They should have a Mcdonalds of the world themed restaurant in certain touristy places like Las Vegas.

Which is more energy efficient? A roof painted black to save on the energy costs in the winter, or to paint a roof white to save the energy costs in the summer. by turduckenstanin askscience

[–]AimsForNothing 0 points1 point ago

That is a good point, I suppose my comment was short sighted. Could there be any benefit by using a black roof to heat water if you had an extremely well insulated house already?

Amtrak Train accessible camping from Chicago? by meggyverin CampingandHiking

[–]AimsForNothing 1 point2 points ago

I worked seven seasons in Glacier and have personally known two people who were eaten by bears, although one was after the fact that he died after a fall on a solo journey. I'm going back for two weeks this summer. Point being, man up, you live in Chicago. You face much more deadly situations on a daily basis and the views don't even compare.

You could get warm shoveling the snow off the roof, then go inside and reap the rewards of healthy body and a warm abode.

My niche is children team sports. Go for groups. I can make 8000-10000 in a 2 week period just from one dance studio.

Obvious bullshit, but I would like to see a study comparing adopted children vs actual children of one of the gay parents.

You just need to get to the ranger station before everyone else, it's that simple. Oh and do not miss Glacier National Park, June 1st is too early for the prime spots but this year is having an exceptionally quick snow melt. So late June should be semi ok. Still worth it as the waterfalls that time of year are amazing.

My big idea. Can reddit help me build a trail? by AimsForNothingin hiking

[–]AimsForNothing[S] 0 points1 point ago

Actually, I am like you. I had to crawl with my one leg stretched out behind me over a mile once in Red Rock Canyon to get back to my vehicle. Then I had to sit with my leg hanging out the door for 30 mins before I could bend it enough to sit and drive. :/

My big idea. Can reddit help me build a trail? by AimsForNothingin CampingandHiking

[–]AimsForNothing[S] 0 points1 point ago

You are right in that if it becomes popular it will mature on its own. My passion lies in the long term goal of a crest trail running the entire length of the Spring Mountains. This section is the catalyst I believe to the series of events needed to take place. However, regardless of the long term goal, the idea of an official trail linking together two of the most important recreation areas surrounding Las Vegas would be enough, in my opinion, to add a bit of renewed interest in these areas, which is always a good thing.

I have rethought my approach with the tape, and while it is a popular method of marking routes in areas where a rock cairn is not feasible, I think it would be best to avoid it for now. Thanks for the input.

It was one hell of a trip indeed, but loved every second of it :)
