Bumi, a non-bender
Teniz, an air bender

It could be possible that Kya and Bumi carry the "genes" required for an airbender. So if they have children their may be a possibility that they could be an airbender.

Being in the avatar state requires a great deal of mental strain to less experienced avatars (such as Aang) and when he was in the ice for 100 years in the avatar state this affected his lifespan

My bad. I read it as Kya and Bumi couldn't have airbending children unless their partner also had the airbending gene.

If Kya and/or Bumi possess the airbending gene then their partner wouldn't need it as shown with Aang and Katara having an airbender son when Katara was from the southern water tribe and I doubt that she would have had an airbender ancestor.
