A pop screen is an easy way to make your vocal tracks sound better, no matter what gear you're using.

Don't stare at your hands. Peek during the tricky parts, but if you get a chance to look away, do.

Maybe they're young. Maybe they're angling for a career in colour commentary. Regardless, they're online talking about baseball. They'll learn.

Some absent-minded noodling while watching tv is fun. See if you can figure out a bassline for a jingle before the commercial ends. Some show's bumper music may inspire a new riff. No matter what you'll gain a little more XP.

Just google some of your favourite tunes, but add the word "chords". You'll be surprised how easy some of them are. For example, Learning to Fly by Tom Petty is the first four chords you'll learn, over and over again.

If you're serious about pooling your resources, live together in the rehearsal house (not apartment). Then there's only one set of bills to pay. Then it's less necessary (lessessary?) to have "real" jobs. If everyone has their own rent, and vehicle, and groceries, and cable bill (also: don't get cable, just watch your dvds) then everyone needs jobs, and suddenly there's much less time/money to put towards the band.
Check your local kijiji for gear. I got a decent jam space PA for $100.

Anyone willing to sell one of their gently used condenser mics? by BigTayTayin WeAreTheMusicMakers

Rent one from a local music store. Describe to them what you hope to achieve, and what gear you're using. You could probably have a very productive weekend for under $20.
Then (if you like it) it wouldn't hurt to ask if they'd sell it at a discount, since it's a rental. That's how I got my first condenser mic.

He saved SNL when Eddie Murphy left, so it sorta makes sense.
