I hear you. I don't even have a secretary, and handling a major felony alone would have been impossible without my support system. I have a few close lawyer friends that allowed me to bounce ideas and problems off of them when I needed to. My wife came and helped take notes during voir dire.

Yes, it's scary, but it can be done in a competent and effective way. If I can do it, anyone can - and in the real world trials almost never happen. That's just not where I practice.

Hire yourself, bub. I have an LL.M. in tax and am kicking ass and taking names as a solo.

It's tough out there - especially with an advanced degree. My advice? Do the criminal and family law for now. Yes, neither of us want to do it - but it pays. I just finished my first jury trial (gak, never thought I would say that) as pauper counsel on a major felony last week. I lost, but I did my best, and I am making money.
