This is the handbook for teenage mormons. I think you girls would get a kick out of reading the girls' Dress and Grooming section (don't worry, it's short) by 089786in TwoXChromosomes

[–]089786[S] 0 points1 point ago

I was raised mormon as well. This is the 1965 version. The current edition makes several changes- mostly to make it more specific and politically correct.

Though, that doesn't stop the 1965 version from being relevent. If it wasn't important to the church, at least at one point, then they wouldn't have made it official by making it a book and handing it to 12 year olds, saying THIS IS WHAT YOU MUST DO TO MAKE IT INTO THE CELESTIAL KINGDOM AND HAVE A TEMPLE MARRIAGE.

So yeah. It's ridiculous- just not as openly ridiculous as the new one.

Well, I guess it's true; the standards don't change all that much... 1965 FTSY Pamphlet by heluvsmeknotin exmormon

Oh jesus. I'm torn. I want to read it and laugh...

but do you seriously expect me to read that thing again? I was forced to read that stupid thing multiple times in Young Women lessons.

I used to make comments similar to that. I used to be really deep in the religious rabbit hole. it's because people would call me out on it that I realized how wrong I was.

Nowadays, people say, "you can't say that! It offends me! Leave, blasphemer!"

That is disgusting.

Hey, ladies! You're not being sexually harassed, you're just not playing the game right!

Did anyone else not realize until today that Jillian Michaels is bisexual?

I had no clue!

HA! Amen to that. :) Basically, to be biologically female, have a vagina. You're good!

The definition of "real woman" and "lady" (any of that kind of thing) is completely up to you and what you want it to be.

IMO, the only things that truly matter are if you're a decent person. Kind, considerate, that kind of thing. Being a "real woman" was never on my to-do list.

I know it comes off that way. I've been told off for being to blunt or harsh in the past. But I speak that way to everyone. I don't beat around the bush. I don't waste people's time by sugar-coating or white lying.

That being said, I don't deny being especially annoyed with this girl. Every day she will say at least one or two things like this- "I'm awesome because, as a girl, I do x, y, and z!" or "a REAL WOMAN does this/that".

I grew up in an uber-religious mormon community (my whole family is super religious. I'm the only one that's broken off.) So the whole community - ESPECIALLY the girls/women - think that to be a "good girl", you must follow church guidelines exactly. Seeing posts like this makes me go a bit mad because of how demanding and judgmental they are. "Girls must be this, or they aren't real women/a lady" etc. Pisses me off. and apparently I pissed them off.

I shouldn't have interrupted the circle jerk. Now I'm being told I'm rude and purposefully trying to embarrass the OP of the fb post.

Pretty sure my sister is dating a tool by steelginain pics

[–]089786 1 point2 points ago

Hey, I get the concern and all that. Siblings should be concerned if their sister/brother is dating someone suspicious of some sort.

But no one has the right to tell the sister who she can and cannot date. It isn't OP's job to "let" the sister do anything.

This happened to me, as well. I'm a 34c. They sized me as a 32a. Pain, man. But SAP me just went along with it.

Is there any scripture mastery passages that you completely disagree with or out right offended about? by kiel333in exmormon

[–]089786 0 points1 point ago

My seminary teacher jr and sr year forced us to memorize scripture mastery every day by singing stupid songs with the scriptures as lyrics. Because of that, I hate all of them.

Also, I'm suspicious of anything that would elevate itself like scriptures do. What are they? A group of words formed in such a way to sound intimidating and forboding and powerful. That doesn't give them any more influence, veracity, or "rightness" than any other set of words- a poem, an essay, a novel. Etc.

Mormon to Whore ... am I being too promiscuous? by whoreofthewatersin exmormon

[–]089786 8 points9 points ago

EXMORMON GIRL HERE:

I went through this same thing in my transition out of mormondom. I felt I was being too whorish, too many guys, too fast.

The church and the rest of the misogynistic world views women by their sexuality. They are either virgins or whores, and depending on who surrounds you, you are expected to be both somehow.

Something that helped me was watching a speech given by jean kilbourn. She is a feminist who studies society's relationship and treatment of women. You can see the speech on YouTube ("killing us softly 4")

Now, something that bothers me is the question of even having sex too much. Wat? Come on. Men are congratulated for having lots of sex, but women are labelled whores? The men must be having sex with SOMEONE, right? Forget what others think. I know it's hard, but you must realize that it is none of their business. It is only your safety and preferences that matter.

As for not finding a relationship... Don't cut out sex just because you think it will deter relationships. I had sex with a guy the first time he asked me out. We've been happily dating since November.

If you feel that you should personally slow down, then do. But never do it because you're concerned what others might think.
