They're comparable to Jack FM (104.1) but with more current stuff. Then they have Eric Perkins and Tone E Fly for the morning show.

Jack FM bores me... and I am irritated by it for being programmed in Texas and piped in. KTWIN seems to be playing up the "Made in your home town by people from your home town" angle pretty hard, but... eh.

As a former Dallasite, Jack.FM is absolutely terrible. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

[–]s1500Highland Park 1 point2 points ago

It sounds like yet another corporate FM station, sadly.

[–]NutSAK 2 points3 points ago

agree. so far... not bad. Especially since KS95 went top40. For a while there I had 3 presets (kdwb, b96, ks95) that were exactly the same.

[–]s1500Highland Park 1 point2 points ago

True story bro: KS95 once played "MTV Get off the Air" by the Dead Kennedies. This was around '96. I miss all the attempts at themed shows the local radio stations used to do. KS95 had a 70s disco night, and Kool 108 had this show of more obscure post-punk & new wave hits, that lasted about 2 episodes. They played "Too Young to Date" by D-Day. Then it was gone.

I wasn't aware of the change, but I'll probably check it out when 93x is playing something I don't care for. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I've only listened during a couple quick car trips, but the mix of music sounds good so far. Our XM trial subscription ran out last week and while we will miss the Alt and 90's "Lithium" stations, we have no interest in paying for it. So the mix on KTwin may turn out to be a nice substitute.

The annoying part is their weak signal beraking up constantly, and we're not even in the burbs.

[–]44problemsSeward 2 points3 points ago

It's kinda fun to be able to belt out some 90s songs in the car. Yeah, it ain't The Current, but that's what The Current's for.

But do we need to hear Gavin DeGraw's "Not Over You," Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain," and Script's "Nothing" every hour? If you have to play them, they have other songs you know.

I turned it on and heard two great songs that would have fit on 93.7 The Edge, but then it went to rap. I agree, it was kind of confusing.

[–]ControlSixHopkins[S] 0 points1 point ago

I haven't heard anything yet that I consider to be Rap... strange.

I don't mind the reggae. I think its kind of fun :)

[–]Argentothe1stUptown 1 point2 points ago

God I miss 93.7 The Edge. 93X is terrible in comparison.

[–]norwegiangeekBlaine 0 points1 point ago

They're uncomparable. After The Edge we had Drive, but The Current killed that :(

I feel exactly the same way: their mix of current indie music and '90s radio gold are awesome, except when I have to quick-change the station every 10 minutes for Creed or Nickelback. Jack FM has the Creed/Nickelback/crappy rock ballad niche covered, so they need to drop that shit and stick to the good stuff!

[–]ControlSixHopkins[S] 2 points3 points ago

I'm fairly annoyed because they've been really good about responding to criticism on their facebook page, and I made a post echoing what most people have said (stop playing moves like Jagger, Gavin Degraw, and Hot Chelle rae every 12 minutes!) and I also said that since the public has in the past mobilized to remove bands like Nickelback and Creed from major sporting events that probably means they should be avoided... And then I went on to praise them for like 40 of the bands they play and tell them how excited I was.... And they deleted my post. Pretty lame. Its just cause they know I'm right.

[–]rexellaGood old St. Paul 1 point2 points ago

Wow, I can't believe that they couldn't take some constructive criticism (that I totally agree with, BTW). Considering that their promos say that they're playing what "we" want to hear, they should pay attention to what we DON'T want to hear!

[–]ControlSixHopkins[S] 1 point2 points ago

I actually heard them play a commercial where they flat out ripped on KS95, 93X and KDWB by name. I don't feel like I've heard a radio station do that before.. seems kind of like its in poor taste to start a rivalry like that. I just always assumed it was known that radio stations are in competition with each other.. no need to call it out.

[–]ComebackOfTheYear 0 points1 point ago

I went to check out their facebook page and couldn't even find any criticism other than one person saying "Too much Adele." It's a real bummer they would delete any posts calling them out on playing crap.

[–]ControlSixHopkins[S] 0 points1 point ago

If you make it all the way down towards the bottom there are a bunch that call them out on Adele and some of the other stuff they over play. When I looked at it yesterday the page was overrun with stuff about Twins Fest so I figured they were running some promotion and lost interest.

[–]abracaPASTA 1 point2 points ago

When did this switch over happen?! I used to be a KDWB/B96er but haven't listened to either in quite awhile.

[–]ControlSixHopkins[S] 0 points1 point ago

Right around the first of the year!

[–]LifeIsTheFutureU of M 1 point2 points ago

This is exactly what i think. It's so... what. I can't decide if it's a good station or not. Like you said, it's so good a lot of the time, but then they throw in a song that sucks like they're trying not to seem too cool for the losers to listen, too.

[–]S1ckola027 1 point2 points ago

I've enjoyed it for the most part, been hearing a bunch of songs i've never heard before. It'd be nice if they didn't play gavin DeGraw as much though...

[–]ControlSixHopkins[S] 1 point2 points ago

SERIOUSLY.

[–]mobilehypoEast Snokomis 1 point2 points ago

Really now. This sounds like I need to check it out. Losing Drive 105 was tragic.

[–]ControlSixHopkins[S] 4 points5 points ago

Sooo glad I'm not the only one stuck in 1998. I seriously mourn that radio station.

[–]Differcult 0 points1 point ago

Can't stand it. Trying to make everyone happy leads to no one being happy.

[–]DawnbreakaLowertown 0 points1 point ago

It's nice to know that if i can't hear Adele and Florence + The Machine on any of the other stations, that this one is also here to fill the gap.

[–]worduphomefry1% 0 points1 point ago

I want b96 back

[–]skorsak 0 points1 point ago

Yes. This only further proves that mpls is going through heavy gentrification.

[–]Callix 1 point2 points ago

I change it far less frequently than the other 5 stations on my presets. It'll do for now.

[–]Mystik021 0 points1 point ago

Lost B96/96.3Now, Now listening to KS95. I miss my rap/hiphop seeing as how the TC doesn't have a radio station for them anymore.
