I'm playing Zelda for the first time in my life(25) right now. I never had a nintendo or snes or n64. I had a Sega and then an Xbox. Now I have a Wii and my buddy let me borrow Zelda.

Play Ocarina of Time. It's a great game. The 2D ones are fantastic too, especially Link to the Past.

I never did beat Ocarina of Time.

And now, in this very moment, I realize that I also never played it high.

Coincidence?

That's awesome. You should make this recipe and after you've taken a shot. Link to the Past is my absolute favorite video game of all time. I think it taught me to be brave. I remember the first time I played it after having discovered marijuana (which was my maybe fourth or fifth time actually playing it) and it was moving on a level I had never imagined.

Man, i LOVE Links Awakening. I know it's super-cheesy and a totally ancillary Zelda game, but it cracks me up. Plus I love all the instruments, the general nautical/island theme (also, pre-Wind Waker), and it's all portable n' shit. Play on, player.

This is sad. Did you have a brother? I guess maybe I lucked out. We got the nes as a joint (heh) present, but then after that started getting altering systems. For example, he got snes for his b-day, I got genesis. He got n64, I got playstation.

I don't think that's really a bad thing though. Especially with everclear.

Comes from the Arabic al-kuḥl, الكحل - "the kohl". Kohl is a fine black powder used in make-up since around 3000 BC. Kohl was the "essence" or "spirit" extracted from the mineral Stibnite. Eventually the word came to refer to any fluid obtained by distillation, including "alcohol of wine", the distilled essence of wine.

Also interesting - "algebra" comes from the arabic al-jabr, الجبر - "the restoration".

[–]kremonte 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

also, I can really notice alcohol is like a really fuckin old word...its like sumerian or something. alcohol...alcohol....sounds arabic

Yes. Well, not a particularly old word, but almost any word that starts with al- is probably of Arabic origin, as it's the definite article. [3]

[deleted]

[–]ChronicUnderAchiever 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think this is it. I copied and pasted to a txt file, so no source:::

Here’s a quick guide on making Green or Golden Dragon with your weed or vaped remains. Green Dragon is a liquid extraction of fresh Cannabis while Golden Dragon is a liquid extraction of vaped remains. You can drop the liquid extract in any food or drink and get a great high. I’ll outline the process as simply as possible. It may look complex, but it’s actually quite easy.

What you need:

* A flat pan that can hold about 2 inches of water
* High proof alcohol, the higher the better. We use Bacardi 151 which is 75.5% alcohol.
* Cannabis (3.5 grams of good quality) or vaped remains (7 grams)
* A small jar
* A cooking thermometer
* A filtering device – coffee filters work great
* Something to dump the filtered liquid into (jar, bowl, etc.)
  • You must use alcohol which is intended for consumption.

(don’t use isopropyl and etc.)

Green Dragon with Fresh Weed

For Green Dragon, it is best to use about an eighth (3.5 grams) with 2 ounces of your high grade alcohol. You’ll need to decarboxylate the bud before continuing. This is pretty simple and can be done in the oven.

* Grind up the Cannabis
* Place in a pan in the oven at 325°F for 5 minutes and prepare for your kitchen to smell strongly of weed

Don’t worry about burning it or losing potency. It’s not hot enough for those things to happen. Remove your Cannabis from the oven and continue with Golden Dragon steps (except you’ll be using your weed from the oven of course). We don’t need to do this with vaped remains because they’re already decarboxylated from the heat of the vaporizer.

Golden Dragon with Vaped Remains

* Fill up the pan with about 2 inches of water and begin to boil it
* In the jar, mix about 7 grams of vaporized remains with 3.5-4 ounces of the alcohol
* Place the jar in the boiling water and maintain the temperature of the Cannabis/rum mixture at 170°F for 20 minutes – you want the mixture to simmer but not boil fast
* Remove mixture and strain out the liquid into a cup

That’s all it takes. Now you can move the liquid to a tincture and have an extremely easy, portable, and stealthy way to get high. And yes, these tinctures have the potential to get you really high.

Update:

So some people in the comments were wondering about the dosage. Keep in mind that you need to self-titrate with the dosage. You may be more/less sensitive to it than others. For me, 1 dropper pinch of Green Dragon gets me a great high that lasts pretty long and doesn’t leave me wanting more. To get to a good point with Golden Dragon, I usually take 2.5-3 dropper pinches.

1 dropper pinch is about a milliliter. So with 3.5 grams of Green Dragon extracted into an ounce (29.5 milliliters) of solution, you could get an awesome high each day for about a month.

Ever seen Chef Hans and Chef Hans, the Marijuana Chefs? They have videos on the internets. They do this same thing, but they use butter and oil instead of soy milk. It's where I learned to extract almost exactly as you describe. I used the marijuana butter for everything from cinnamon toast to popcorn and even brownies. Oh, the salad dressing is great too! I didn't try it until a very vegetarian friend wanted to.

[–]haikubi[S] 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The best description I have heard is that it "tastes like a hippy." It tastes very weedy. It does not turn green, but gets slightly more off-white. Mint and lavender as well as chocolate are wonderful complimentary flavors, which lessen the weediness. Others have suggested cinnamon, but I haven't done that yet.

does it have to be soy milk? and are there work arounds if i dont have a double boiler?

[–]Lo-Mein 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Dunno about the milk... A good double-boiler technique is to use two pots, one slightly larger than the other. Then tie the handles together (I use a grocery bag) and fill the bottom pot with water. It works, but the water evaporates FAST, so be on the watch to fill it up with HOT water!

[–]Gonzobot 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I use a metal mixing bowl for the top half of my double boiler setup. Lift it out with tongs when necessary, or a pair of channel locks. I find the thinner metal works a lot faster, and more evenly, especially for melting chocolate.

[–]krzymins 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Chocolate... I think you should combine the two recipes with some milk chocolate and report back ;)

[–]Gonzobot 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Truffles would be easy enough to add weed to. They need a lot of dark chocolate which is quite fatty iirc.

[–]krzymins 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Dark chocolate actually has slightly less fat, and milk chocolate has more saturated fat...I would probably use milk chocolate for the center, and dark chocolate for the outside? lol

[–]Anab10sis 1 point2 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There is a small amount of fats but no dairy in anything over 70%.

[–]haikubi[S] 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It doesn't HAVE to be soy milk, but I haven't had as good luck with anything else. 2% cow's milk has about 5 grams of fat per serving, while the brand I recommend has 4.5, so in terms of the amount of fat, and therefore cannabinoids per shot, these two are comparable. The only thing I can come up with for this difference is the possible presence of soy lecithin in the soy milk. (anyone know if lecithins are in soymilk?)

When I tried making it with 2% cow's milk, the effects were not the same for me. Others, on the other hand, said it was just as good. So, if you hate soy milk, give 2% a try and please let me know how it goes.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

[–]indiv 3 points4 points ago

Can I just throw it into my rice cooker and put it on the Keep Warm setting? I remember reading that it won't pass 100degreesC, but I've never thought about making cannabutter/milk with it until now.

[–]haikubi[S] 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Test and see if the soymilk heats to close to 200deg farenheit on the keep warm setting. If it doesn't get to at least 180, it's not going to work.

[–]indiv 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I believe it is between 180-212 because some steam is released when it's opened. Next time I make rice I will check the temp it keeps it warm at. What is the optimal temp for infusing the milk?

If this works it is going to be ridiculously easy to make edibles. :)

[–]oneishalluseforthis 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Please let us know if it worked when you try it.

[–]haikubi[S] 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The optimal temp is above 200, but below boiling, which is why the double boiler works out great. I think the Keep Warm setting is not going to have enough power. Don't test it with cooked rice, which will be coming off of being super hot, just test it with four cups of water. Definitely report back.

[–]indiv 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah I ended up putting some water in there last night and right now it's at 160. I don't think it will get any hotter.

And for the record I'm using the Zojirushi ns-zcc10

[–]backward_z 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I make something similar to this, but I use real milk. Strauss Family Creamery whole milk unhomogenated still has the cream that rises to the top. I cook it in a pressure cooker so I don't lose any moisture. I'll run four or five ounces of sugar trim per half gallon of milk. Add the product after the milk is hot but not boiling (we don't want to separate the fat). When you see the white milk residue building up on the sides of the cooker where the waterline is, you're getting close. At this point, before adding material, I'll put in a half teaspoon of lecithin which halves the necessary cooking time. After adding the material, I let it come back to temperature before sealing it, reducing the heat to its lowest possible setting, and walking away for two hours.

Filter through a T shirt (wear heavy rubber gloves for squeezing it out--it's hot!) measure into travel shampoo bottles, let cool to room temperature, refrigerate overnight, then freeze.

The person who introduced me to this recipe would use two ounces of processed per half gallon and his was waaaaay strong. Mine is pretty fucking strong but I'd really like to try it with buds or even like bubble hash.

what is lecithin and how does it interact with THC?

[–]backward_z 3 points4 points ago

It's an emulsifier. Helps keep the fat from separating into products and helps the THC bond with the fat more quickly.

[–]monsda 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If you have a grinder, let your bud sit out for awhile (30 minutes, hour whatever till it's dry) then grind it. Grind upside down for awhile so it doesn't fall through the holes.

If no grinder, take a shot glass, put it inside of a baggie, put the dried buds in the shot glass, then cut with scissors.

Made a batch of this going by your recipe yesterday, and just had my first shot this afternoon after letting it cool over-night. 4g of Blue Dream, 3 hours. Took 1.5 hours approx to really kick in. Holy shit, forgot how good the edible highs were.

[–]eggon 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

So I worked all night one night to give this recipe a try. My plan was to work a sixteen hour shift, come home at 7am, and start the recipe after everyone in my house had left. Unfortunately, when I got home I feel asleep immediately and until 1p.m. stayed asleep. Being an idiot, I decided to give this recipe a try anyways. The reason it was so dangerous for me to do anything here is that my behind neighbor is a police station, my across the street neighbor is a church, the neighbor to my left is a public elementary school, and the neighbor to my right is a catholic school. So, with the combined increased penalties in a school error and the proximity to an enforcement agency, I live in what is essentially the worst place on the planet to recreationally smoke weed.
I burned some incense in my room, hoping it would be strong enough to cover any smell in the kitchen without being so strong as to be suspicious. I also put out a plate of vinegar because I read that it was suppose to decrease the smell, and I also figured that at worst it was just another strong smell hopefully covering up the blend. The shallow plate would increase the surface area of the vinegar, causing it to evaporate more quickly and thus smell stronger. I put some olive oil in the vinegar so that it looked like I was just eating it with bread or cucumber. My cover up story was that I was making "herbal milk tea," and indeed, I would add ginger black tea leaves and honey (which is an awesome way to make this, by the way) to the blend before it was finished. The ginger helped to cover up the smell and the tea gave you a little caffeine before your high so that you would have to just sit around the whole time.
I brought a HUGE pot of water to boil, with another smaller pot with guesstimated half the carton of soymilk in it. I tried to add just an 1/16th, but I think I may have added close to an 1/8 of a mixture of some unknown mids and a couple maui wowie heads. I prepared the weed by first chopping it up with scissors, then grinding away at it with a mortar and pestle, because I do not own a grinder. I added salt to the outer pot because it lowers the boiling temperature of water, this makes it less likely that you will overheat your weed. I covered the inside pot, but the cover had holes it in. Covers without holes increase the boiling temperature because they increase the pressure in the system as the liquid expands into vapor. My pot started boiling at 1:20pm so it would finish at, you guessed it, 4:20p.m. I considered this good luck. Figured I had done all I could, and would wait by playing battlefield 2. About halfway into the cooking process, I took off the lid to stir and saw some bubbles in the pot. I worry that the soymilk was boiling, so I turned down the temperature slighly. All the countermeasures I put in place seemed to work. The weed smell was unnoticable over the insense, and it really seemed like the vinegar helpeed. When the recipe had finished, I tried some when it was hot. It was delicious! An hour and a half later I was quite disappointed that I was feeling nothing special, but two hours later, hehe, I was laughing uncontrollably. Had a good, long evening. Tried to go out for grocery shopping, but just kept walking to the door an back forgetting various things, then munched down some cereal.

Can this be made with almond milk?

[–]haikubi[S] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Eh... I mean technically it can, because there is some fat in it. BUT, almond milk tends to have about half as much fat per serving. Meaning in any given shot, you've got less of the stuff into which those cannabinoids have dissolved I definitely recommend soy milk, and even more so the brand I mentioned.

If you're going to do almond milk, I might let some of the water burn off, thus making it maybe a little thicker and grosser in consistency and also giving you less final product, but giving you a higher concentration of fat and therefore cannabinoids.

Yes. I imagine it will be similar for you. I usually get closer to a 6 or 7 with this. I made a batch once for friends who had tried it many times before and to which I did nothing different, including not using especially good weed. The stories they told me about what happened to them after they took it were absolutely insane. I have seen people take 8ths of mushrooms and have less of a trippy time. This doesn't happen to most people most of the time. For a very select few it straight up doesn't work, but in 90% of the cases I hear about, I'm told it's just a straight up good time.

[–]krzymins 1 point2 points ago

I bet it has something to do with the fact the soy isn't boiling. I can imagine it is that boiling temperature that breaks down everything.

If I were a pothead, I would cook til the break of dawn and figure this shit out ;) Instead I lurk /trees looking for ideas for when I do.

my friend would make this and I would normally dose like 2 teaspoons and be pretty stoned for a couple hours. I think doing a shot will send you into space.

[–]haikubi[S] 2 points3 points ago

Our friend here speaks to the diversity of experience that people have with this stuff. The good thing is, you can always start with less and work your way up. If you're concerned, take something like two teaspoons or even a tablespoon and see how you feel after an hour or two. You can always take more from there.

It's not bad at all. The pot with the weed in it stays covered, I open it up a few times to stir, that's when it's bad, but you don't have to stir and if you leave it covered there really won't be much smell. It smells far far far less than smoking, put it that way.

It will, but again, the thing that works with this is the amount of fat in each serving and the amount of weed. That's why 2% is better. Someone might be able to come and explain why whole milk is fine and how to use it, this is just what I know and I know that the ratios change when you use a product that has more fat in it.

At that efficiency, will consuming 1/16th an oz worth of weed get you high?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well, you start with 1/8th ounce, and you get 16-20 shots, and one shot is enough. So it seems 1/160th of an ounce worth of weed is enough in this recipe.

[–]noseeme 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I don't see how that's possible at all. I can barely even get high from smoking that much. That's .177 grams. I think ingesting weed is less efficient for a high, too. It takes more weed to get you high, but the high lasts longer.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Just put a quarter in the recipe and drink the whole thing. Then post results.

[–]haikubi[S] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

So I see where my confusion was now in regards to your question. Ingesting is 100 percent efficient, because all the THC, which is released into the soymilk is absorbed in digestion. When one smokes, a lot of the chemicals are destroyed by the heat of the flame, and further the lungs can't absorb all the THC as the stomach and intestines can. Thus .177 grams ingested is more effective than that amount smoked.

[–]TiberiustheMetapod 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Ingesting the good stuff is 100 percent efficient once the THC gets through your first-pass metabolism. It's like Wednesday, the hump of the week....the fun only starts once you get over it. Guys, I'm tired....

This sounds cool and all, and I am considering trying it, but I have a question. I consider myself a bit of a foodie, and I am familiar with heating liquids in double boilers, etc. How can something boil for 3 hours and not completely dissipate? This does not jive. Are you sure you're doing this for 3 hours? Even if you lower the heat to a bare minimum, 3 hours is a really long time. You must end up with 1/8 the liquid you started with.

[–]haikubi[S] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The soymilk never boils and you keep it covered. It's never lost more than have a cup of liquid. Usually signficantly less

[–]b1rd 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think the difference may be the soy milk. I have double-boiled cows milk before and know for certain that it will not last 3 hours, even at a simmer, and still end up resembling something you can drink. But I've never done soy milk, so maybe it's different somehow.

I mean, Dulce de Leche is just condensed milk that's been cooked slowly for hours until the sugars caramelize and it turns to a thick fudge-y type consistency. So this definitely will not work with cows milk. I guess you have to do it with soy.

[–]haikubi[S] 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've done this with milk too. Didn't have any problems. I dunno. Not saying you're wrong, just know it's worked. Probably did it for less than three hours but definitely at least 45 min.

[–]beelzebilly 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've read through all the comments and it seems like it's just a matter of personal taste in using soy milk (4.5g fat/serving) vs 2% (5g fat/serving); but if it comes down to THC bonding with fatty acids, wouldn't whole milk (8g fat/serving), or even RAW whole milk be best?

May as well throw in a McChurger while I'm at it.

[–]kx48 1 point2 points ago

I did something similar a while back.

  • Grind a sixteenth or so up

  • Heat up milk so it's simmering nicely, add ganja

  • Stir every so often, leave it an hour or so to do its work

  • Add strong coffee grounds and sugar

  • Put into cafetiere and strain, thus removing the coffee and ganja pieces

  • SPACE COFFEE

Feels cosmic. :3

[–]ecoil 0 points1 point ago

D: I plan on doing this, but i'm kinda worried when boiling and such the smell will fill the kitchen.. any way to prevent this?

[–]haikubi[S] 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It smells very little. The weed is not being exposed to extreme temperatures thus releasing smoke, which stinks. The oils are being absorbed by the fact in the soymilk. Plus, it should be covered almost the entire time. Assuming your lid is on securely it should contain the steam and therefore the smell The few times it's uncovered for stirring will have a prett weak, but definitely present smell. This dissipates quickly.

Also, put some mulling spices, or chai tea leaves in the water chamber. Light a stick of incense, or a scented candle. Pretty much anything will mask this, even a few sprays of glade or perfume right after opening/stirring.

hey Ents! i'm a little late to this forum but i was wondering if sweetened soy milk can be used and if it will have any negative effects on potency or taste

the brand i plan on using is a favorite of mine and popular in asia.

here are the nutrition facts and here is a picture of it. It has a lot of fat per serving which i read was what we are looking for, but will the sugar hurt it in some way?

[–]haikubi[S] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Sugar does no harm to the yummy cannabinoids. I just like to start unsweetened and work from there. Also most sweetened soy milks have less fat. Finally, I always have luck with the brand I recommend, but have experienced a lack of success with a number of other brands, which is why I always recommend my brand, because it's one less factor to take into account if someone is unsuccessful in making a good batch and we're trying to isolate the problem. With those caveats in mind, I say 'go for it'!

I'm going out right now to get everything I don't have, and making this. My evening just became so much more inspired - a little Zelda, some of this awesome-sounding milk, and I'll be transported back to my childhood.

Question: if I don't have a double boiler, will I run into any problems with a different setup (e.g two pots, or a pot and a metal mixing bowl, etc)? Is burning the milk my only concern? How do I avoid that?

Wow dude, I made some last weekend and I was blazed for about 6 hours straight. It was amazing! Only thing is 1 shot isn't enough i found. I had to take about 4 shots for it to be effective for me. I used 2% dairy milk and i threw in a splash of 151 for added potency as was noted in this thread. I let it cook for exactly an hour, maybe it wasn't long enough to get all the cannabinoids out of it... I used about 1/5 of an ounce, which is about in the middle between an eighth and a quarter, so is there something im not doing?
