One time I spent a minute backstabbing a heavy and his medic before I realized we were on the same team.

[–]AduroNox 35 points36 points ago

I have an identity crisis when I play spy

[–]BobLeBuilDerp 55 points56 points ago

I hate when that happens. I was playing spy, and kept getting team swapped. I... I didn't know who to kill. So I killed them all.

[–]manofsticks 5 points6 points ago

The worst is when you get team swapped, and the game glitches and gives you the wrong background color on the bottom left, when you're spy.

[–]lamoix 6 points7 points ago

This, all the damn time, with everyone on my team.

[–]WaitwhatamIdoinghere 8 points9 points ago

I once flipped out on my team mates trying to dodge and melee them to death as a sniper before I came to the same realization. Just a horrible, slow "Oh, wait, oh... Oh... oh."

[–]Backupusername 4 points5 points ago

Happened to me earlier today.

Followed a red spy all through tons of blue areas, but I could NOT backstab him.

But I could see him. He was red, and everyone else was blue, and no one was shooting him, but I tried to backstab until that blue demo blue me up.

Later that same day (today), I was running around as pyro, "Why can't I extinguish this blue scout? Why can't I ignite all these reds? They're not even shooting at me! ... Oh!"

[–]isodef 38 points39 points ago

I had an amazing sentry set up at my base in Badlands. It was in perfect alignment! No Demos could harm it! I didn't see the giant pane of glass directly in front of me. Being the only defense on my team, we lost the round.

[–]Jeff_Drake 39 points40 points ago

Every single time I drop Uber it makes me want to quit playing in shame.

[–]Chachoregard 27 points28 points ago

I know that feel.

Even on Defense and wielding the Kritzkrieg.

"SHIT, LOW HEALTH. GO CRIT HUNTSMAN SNIPER."

[–]RidiculouslyLongName 11 points12 points ago

CRIT HUNTSMAN SNIPER used ARROW!

But it missed!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Regular sniper bodyshotting everyone. beautiful.

[–]The_Third_One 0 points1 point ago

Always kritz the no-headshot set sniper.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Making everyone Ragequit is a tactic too! :D

[–]sweetsnowman 16 points17 points ago

Back when I was fairly new to medic, I spent an entire uber on a disguised spy. I was wondering why this soldier wasn't killing people, then I realized...... Disconnected immediately after :(

[–]gilmore606 1 point2 points ago

Over the weekend we watched our regular spy pull not one but TWO ubers in a row from the same enemy medic. He disconnected after the second one. Our entire team dissolved into mic laughter, and we all assumed that poor medic was planning his imminent suicide.

"You shouldn'a done that to 'im...he's just a boy..."

[–]xSKASx 33 points34 points ago*

I was in a lobby when a medic with full uber appears. He also had a spy from my team right behind him. Without thinking, I flame & airblast and try to flare (which missed) right before the spy could backstab the medic. The heavy the medic was pocketing killed us both. They ended up winning that round.

It was sad day. It was also the day stabby stabby yelled at me.

[–]tuxisme 12 points13 points ago

Yelled at... by stabby...

I would go hang myself if my idol yelled at me...

[–]ObservingOwl 5 points6 points ago

Nothing is better than that quick m1+m2+2+m1 with a random crit from the flair, killing a medic with uber. Sweet mother of jesus that's good.

[–]Cribbit 3 points4 points ago

Flare crit on burning targets, it's not a random crit.

[–]ObservingOwl 3 points4 points ago

I see. So I'm not just lucky all the time then. >.>

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Sometimes i zone out when i'm fighting a wall of rocketspam and i do that. Never ends well

[–]1rving 5 points6 points ago

Hey, stabby stabby talked to you and maybe he will remember you. It's something... I guess...

[–]DerpMatt 3 points4 points ago

I have done this. Sometimes you get tunnel vision and that happens.

[–]WaffleSandwhiches 0 points1 point ago

As someone who's played with stabby, he's fairly chill, but expects a few simple things: like some follow up damage if you're in range and can risk next to nothing yourself to get the kill. You must have been really missing your shotgun shots or something, because usually, he doesn't rage.

[–]xSKASx 1 point2 points ago

I wouldn't say he raged more like told me off.

[–]natemckn 33 points34 points ago

After realizing I got my tele entrance and exit backwards. A teammate asks "uhh... Nate, why is your exit at spawn?". I changed class out of embarrassment.

[–]The_Third_One 14 points15 points ago

So you can retreat hastily!

[–]JackBillPlatypus 3 points4 points ago

I feel like such a dumbass. I read all the stories on this thread about accidentally setting up a tele exit at spawn, and my first thought is, "why don't you build the tele entrance then carry the exit through the teleport?". Took me a good five minutes, that one.

[–]boxoffice1[!] 1 point2 points ago

I was in the server with someone who did this like a week or so ago and I said that. Was this you at the gameliberty payload server?

[–]natemckn 0 points1 point ago

I don't think so. It hasn't happened to me in months, but it still stands out as one of the dumbest things I've done in game

[–]TheColorMan 22 points23 points ago

I fell for a stair-stab. That is all.

[–]cozeffect2 1 point2 points ago

I feel that's the kind of thing that happens to every one once, and then they never fall for again.

[–]nooodl 1 point2 points ago

I... It had never happened to me. I just noticed this spy, going up some stairs, I followed him, bam. Felt pretty stupid, sure. But then I decided, next life, I needed to be up those stairs again, for whatever reason. I wasn't chasing that guy again, and I'd just passively forgotten about him.

Of course, he was still there; dude stabbed me twice. I vaguely recall he shot me to death later that game too. Argh.

[–]Wadovski 0 points1 point ago

It's hard to defeat a good spy when you are inattentive.

[–]jobosno 19 points20 points ago

I spent a whole minute not paying attention to who I was healing, thus failing to realise that I was healing a heavy with my own username...then he backstabbed a friendly soldier...that must have been one happy spy.

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points ago

and on the killfeed it says you assisted in backstabbing a teammate.

[–]Chachoregard 10 points11 points ago

Worse when in the heat of battle when a Spy has sapped your Engi's stuff and you latch on to someone and the killfeed turns white with YOU ASSISTING THE SPY FOR THAT SAPPING.

I'll....I'll just...

Chacho [/r/dallas] has joined Team Spectator

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Even worse is when you do that in UGC highlander and it gets put into a video commentary that goes on reddit and all the internet sees.

[–]Super_Inuit 1 point2 points ago

Any prime examples you can think of?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Nope.avi~ I'm pretty sure that's never happened. However if it did it would totally one up the previous example

[–]just_defy 17 points18 points ago

I think the most common thing is when I get team switched and don't realise, then start shooting at team mates.

[–]CuriositySphere 9 points10 points ago

I forget what team I'm on if I play spy long enough.

[–]Bythmark 0 points1 point ago

Especially when you play to see how long it takes to get noticed.

[–]TheCodexx 2 points3 points ago

I once ended up in a Call of Juarez match and spent 5 minutes trying to shoot Tim Buckley in the face before realizing I was on the same team as him.

Not TF2, but somewhat relevant.

[–]c0de1143 1 point2 points ago

I probably would've done the same, to be quite honest. More out of spite than confusion though.

[–]SunSlayer11 16 points17 points ago

I'm on a ledge that is trapped with my own sticky bombs. I'm pipe spamming the other team and a teammate comes up from behind. When I see him, think "spy check," and promptly blow myself to little bits with the stickies.

[–]AJM69 28 points29 points ago

As an Engy on 2fort, I was using my Widowmaker to spy-check and found a Spy. I chased him across the map until I ran out of ammo and was in the enemy base. The Spy got away and I was down to my pistol. Desperate to get back to my nest and angry at myself for chasing a Spy that far, I started to run back to my base only to be eradicated by a Heavy. While I was waiting for respawn, the very Spy that I was chasing went back to my nest and sapped my shit before I could get to it. Oh yeah, then the Spy continued to C&D camp where my nest originally was and stab me each time I tried to rebuild. Trust me, it did absolute wonders for my self-esteem.

[–]Cake_spy 13 points14 points ago

But thats when u go pyro and burn his ass

[–]AJM69 11 points12 points ago

It was in my early days of TF2. Don't expect anyone with two months of playing under their belt to switch classes.

[–]fade_like_a_sigh 13 points14 points ago

On the contrary, I see people who've been playing less than two months switch their classes far more often than regulars.

Sure the regular might switch when he's getting owned by a spy but the newbs are trying to find which class suits them best, they tend to explore a lot.

I'm not saying they all switch classes and they certainly don't switch classes as effectively as they could but there's still a lot of changing going on.

[–]econguy 3 points4 points ago

Yeah TF2 Newbs: What suits me best? Spy or Sniper? OOOH Phlog pyro!

[–]fade_like_a_sigh 6 points7 points ago

Whoever invented the Phlog should be condemned to the deepest level of hell where they will be forced to play Spy against 12 Phlog Pyros for all eternity.

[–]Hjgduyhwsgah 3 points4 points ago

Truly a fate worse then death.

[–]Wadovski 0 points1 point ago

Just keep them at arm's length and wait for the crits to wear off. Then, they are at your mercy.

[–]fade_like_a_sigh 0 points1 point ago

My issue with the Phlog isn't the crits, those seem fair enough.

My first issue is the health recharge and near invulnerability while taunting, the one time the pyro is actually meant to be vulnerable.

My main issue though is that it even exists. Valve has listened to us bitch and complain about W+M1 idiot pyros who don't know how to play for years and what do they do? They design a weapon catered specifically to idiots who don't know how to play.

Now, it's easier for these terrible pyros to kill people without ever learning how to play their class properly. Valve fucked up.

[–]DA_BEAST295 0 points1 point ago

so what is your explanation for he noobs who ALWAYS go spy ande sniper no matter what?

[–]fade_like_a_sigh 9 points10 points ago

That's quite simple to explain really.

Sniper and spy both have one shot kills, they are viewed as the most powerful classes by many noobs because of this.

Noob #1 is just playing around on a server when SuperSpy joins the server and proceeds to slaughter the enemy team. His points are almost double that of the guy below him in score. Noob #1 thinks holy shit, clearly spy is the best thing for me to do right now.

It seems so idiotic to people who've been playing a while but for someone new to the game, a lot of what they have to go off is how well classes do on the scoreboard. When a sniper or a spy is good at what they do, they tend to be high up the board.

[–]cuchlann 5 points6 points ago

Well, there's also people like me, who really like Sniper (or spy, but I like sniper) -- I also wasn't great at sniper out of the box. I ended up not playing sniper for months, just now trying him out again. So if that's the one you really, really like, you'll spend time to get good, but you'll be terrible until then.

I'm still mostly bodyshotting, sigh.

[–]Bythmark 3 points4 points ago

Better than missing. If you need practice sniping, 2fort and valve servers tend to get a lot of people who stand still or move in straight lines.

[–]IHadACatOnce 1 point2 points ago

Whenever I play on a valve server and pipeline comes up, my eyes light up because I know it's my playground as spy.

[–]cuchlann 1 point2 points ago

I'll try those. I suspect in the past I was bad at 2fort because the other sniper was catching me. But I'm (slightly) better at moving around now.

[–]Bythmark 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I know what it feels like being the worse sniper. Hide that dot and maybe they won't see you so easy.

[–]fade_like_a_sigh 2 points3 points ago*

I played Scout for about 30 hours, really got a feel for it and started to rack up some great kills.

Then I went back to sniper having gotten my ass kicked at it when I first started out. Turns out I am actually a pretty great Sniper now. I'm so familiar with how many reticule moves from playing Scout and the rapid aiming just seems to have carried across.

Try changing your crosshair. I use a hollow red circle which is usually just the size of the enemies' head.

Edit: My favourite map to practise on is Doublecross. You get some noobs who run in straight lines and there are at least 4 sniper spots which give you a wide range. If you learn to snipe on this map, you can keep the enemy totally locked in their base. Remember that a large part of sniping is not being seen/found which means moving after you get about 5 kills.

[–]cuchlann 0 points1 point ago

Well, getting 5 kills without dying in between is still a goal for me, actually. I might look into the crosshair stuff, and I'll mess around on Doublecross. So far I've really enjoyed sniping on Gorge of all places.

[–]fade_like_a_sigh 0 points1 point ago

5 kills isn't necessarily in one life. What I'm trying to get at is switch your spot up, don't camp the same bit of land constantly because people will learn and go a different way.

[–]greenbot 0 points1 point ago

I just play spy because I hate engineers. ... What? Stop glaring at me like that!

Also, dead ringer+spycicle+enforcer/diamondback/ambassador = troll spy outfit.

[–]fade_like_a_sigh 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, spy is one of my most played classes.

I either rock Saharan Dead Ringer or DR/Spycicle/Enforcer.

Such a fun class when you get good at it, I still feel bad about two-shotting most classes though ha ha.

[–]Clockwork80 3 points4 points ago

Dr. Enforcicle

[–]JMich2012 0 points1 point ago

Using L'etranger with the dead ringer is a rage inducing combo. Dead-ringing 3 times within a minute really flares up the anger.

[–]pootispencer 0 points1 point ago

cod players

[–]kingofnarnia 2 points3 points ago

I played demo for my first month before I realized I was absolute shit.

... now I hope I'm better.

[–]Zidijan 13 points14 points ago

Every time I try to play pyro in Highlander matches. I almost always feel like everyone sees me as a W+M1 noob

[–]CuriositySphere 13 points14 points ago

At higher levels, there's little to complain about. You can complain that a particular item is overpowered, and you'd probably be right, but complaining about a player's tactics is just dumb. I don't like dying to w+m1 pyros (or demos) in pubs, but when I played highlander, dying was dying. Doesn't really matter how it happens. All that matters is how I'm going to avoid it next time. All the little things that annoy you you can no longer complain about. People are going to do what works, and that's exactly what they should do.

tl;dr, don't worry about it, just be as effective as you can.

[–]tehInvader 2 points3 points ago

Although i dislike W+M1 pyros, i have to admit it's a valid tactic in at least the following situations:

  • Under the effects of the Kritzkrieg
  • Attacking enemies under the effect of Jarate (or Mad Milk if you're low on health)
  • Having 3+ enemies within your Flamethrower range

[–]TheCodexx 4 points5 points ago

Lighting a large group on fire, keeping them under fire and dealing damage, and causing them to scatter can actually do wonders if the team is easily distracted or skiddish. An organized team will kill you right out. Yeah, it's tactically simplistic, but when the group is on the cart all huddled together like idiots, what are you as a Pyro supposed to do? Sit there and wait for someone with a projectile weapon to distance themselves from the group so you can try using your awesome APM to black back at them?

W+M1 is one of the most effective tactics. If the enemy doesn't pay attention, they can die within seconds. If you even get close to them, they're going to take damage over time and that can significantly weaken or even kill some of them. And on top of that, most teams will run and scatter. Useless if your team doesn't immidiately reinforce, but a well-times ambush that scares the enemy can be enough to let your team push forward. And in objective-based matches, that's what really counts. Pushing the cart up ever so much or getting the time to capture a control point. And as a Pyro your job ends up being to ambush and delay, not straight-up fight them.

[–]Wadovski 1 point2 points ago

Also it's fun just to burn things, even if it costs you your life in the end.

[–]dupuiwi 12 points13 points ago

When the sticky-jumper came out, i tried using it as a weapon that does damage... someone had to tell me, it did not feel good

[–]cheekynakedoompaloom 7 points8 points ago

came in to say the same... tho in my case i'd been screwing around with sticky jumper the day before and had forgot i had it equipped(this was before the distinct models were added)... took me a minute to realize why i wasnt doing any damage.

[–]CuriositySphere 8 points9 points ago

I got 10 kills in a row on someone in MGE and felt pretty good before he realized he was using the rocket jumper. I lost.

[–]esssssss 14 points15 points ago

Pretty much always.

[–]hobbaloo 11 points12 points ago

This one time, I was attacking as Pyro on Barnblitz, and we were trying to get the final cap. I get sent in with an uber, and then proceed to kill many players, but as soon as it runs out I get owned by a sentry that I didn't see in time. The funny thing is that this happened twice in the same round in the same place >.>

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

I am suicidally insane on attack mode. 5 secs? phah, I'll W+M1 till that whole nest is gone.

It leads to bad things though, like taking a taunted tele 5 times to try and counter taunt kill a medic and demo.

[–]CuriositySphere 19 points20 points ago

Stab sentry, sap heavy.

I actually didn't feel that dumb, because it was a muscle memory issue and not a miscalculation or anything, but it's still an embarrassing mistake to make.

[–]Rtbush12 8 points9 points ago

2nd stage Dustbowl at the one way gate. I'm defending as a solly watching the gate, ready to unleash fury on anyone who opens it to let my rockets in. Another soldier appears and trys to snap shoot me a bit by opening and closing the gate. This continues for an awkward 30 secs or so. Feeling equally matched, we stand there. Then he taunts and I hit the g key in response and immediately realize I am fucked

[–]INT_21h 2 points3 points ago

Oh, no. You had switched to Equalizer, right?

[–]TheWetMop 8 points9 points ago

i think he meant because the enemy soldier's taunt will end first

[–]Rtbush12 5 points6 points ago

no, since I had taunted a half second later than him, his animation ended first. So he popped out and fragged me

[–]TheSkai 11 points12 points ago

I used to think a player named "replay" was stalking me to every server

[–]Gorgoleon 6 points7 points ago

Waaayy back in the day I can remember playing on Red team on the 1st stage of Goldrush. I waited at the gates outside of red spawn for the match to begin so I could run out there and own everyone, only to be told by a teammate that those gates don't actually open.

[–]Swayhaven 2 points3 points ago

Same. D:

[–]nightfan 7 points8 points ago*

I ubered a spy. I felt like shit.

EDIT: I meant an enemy spy. Sucks.

[–]Xplayer 5 points6 points ago

My friend who plays spy primary insisted that I uber him. Just to get him to shut up (and to prove my point that it's a really dumb idea. It was a deadlocked CTF match so we had a lot of time on our hands), I did. Unfortunately he neglected to realize that you can't pick up the intel while ubered, and while trying to do so, rushed into the sentry nest trying to pick up the intel, getting us both killed. I haven't healed that friend since (considering he still plays spy primary that's not too bad).

[–]Solraith 1 point2 points ago

I'll confess I did that once, too. He was disguised as our top-scoring Heavy and I was still quite new to Medic, and it took me the entire length of the charge to realize my mistake. The ensuing facestab didn't help.

It was quite a long time before I could bring myself to go back to that server.

[–]Cupcaketf2 0 points1 point ago

I did this once, but even worse I knew it was a spy disguised as an engie. But, I had to get back to spawn to make it to safety to find the team.

Little did I know it would have been just as sufficient to pop the uber on myself. At the time I didn't think you could do that.

[–]Swayhaven 5 points6 points ago

When I used to play a LOT of Engineer on 2fort when I first started playing, a DR Spy tried to destroy my sentry setup. I shot at him with my pistol, he cloaked, he came back, this happened again. And he was disguised differently everytime making my brain hurt even more. I was like "I.. uh, I think this spy, maybe, MIGHT, be hacking, um, can we like votekick him or something?" lol I was such a noob. At least I wasn't yelling "OEHGE HAX GET OUT" lol, but my brain was to broken.

[–]ClownFundamentals 7 points8 points ago*

  • Accidentally hit the chat key in a fight
  • Wonder why I'm not moving
  • See the chat box fill up with "sssssssdsddddsssss"
  • Die

[–]Atheistical 12 points13 points ago

Sucessfully dodging a Sniper and then missing all 6 shots when I get up to his face.

Worst feeling ever.

[–]Bythmark 3 points4 points ago

If you can get him with the fish it's okay.

[–]cozeffect2 0 points1 point ago

I'm a noob at scout, and whenever snipers start circle strafing, I can't hit them. It drives me crazy.

[–]obeliskos 8 points9 points ago

In recent memory? I blew myself up shooting a bonk scout at point blank. :|

[–]fireinthesky7 2 points3 points ago

I kind of love getting hit by a pyro and bonking with just a couple of health left. It really is kill theft.

[–]whatofit 5 points6 points ago

I forget. But in the last few days, it's a tossup between my saw evasion and misclicking sandvich.

[–]Bythmark 0 points1 point ago

Oh, the sandvich one is beautiful.

[–]whatofit 1 point2 points ago

I like that the spy stabbed me twice in the face before circling around.

[–]uncleMonteh 7 points8 points ago

Today

Playing red soldier on Dustbowl stage 1 cap 2. Saw an Engineer on point. "Cool, he got this. Wait, why isn't he buil"-Backstab

Lost the point.

[–]zevz 5 points6 points ago

I am a rare player in the fact that my secondary button (right mouse button, used for cloaking etc) is fixed on the space key. This causes big mistakes at times. For example, if i wrangle my sentry and want to shoot rockets, sometimes i accidentally pick up the sentry instead, and the enemy just rush me.

Same with spy, especially if i quickswitch, it's a bug in tf2 where mouse2 is permanently bound to cloaking if you quickswitch.

[–]QuickRime 1 point2 points ago

The wrangler confuses me. I sometimes think erroneously that it's an alt-fire ability for the sentry gun. So I right click when people appear to shoot at. And then things go downhill fast.

[–]FieldsOfPlough 5 points6 points ago

Dropping Uber to a 8 sticky trap.

[–]yummycoffee 3 points4 points ago

Spy checking the spawn room. D'oh.

[–]Xplayer 2 points3 points ago

I do that all the time unfortunately. I just have the tendency the blast flames at anything that moves, regardless of where I am on the map.

[–]greenbot 5 points6 points ago

I disguised as an enemy soldier on 2fort, then got confused and hit my rocketjump macro under the enemy's grate. The nearby sentry filled me with lead.

[–]GrantSolar 6 points7 points ago

Whenever I take a teleporter then spend 5 minutes stealthily infiltrating the wrong base

[–]thedelicreeps 0 points1 point ago

sometimes they can be pointed in the most misleading directions. done that a few times.

[–]Lurcho 5 points6 points ago

I once reversed my teleporter placement with the exit at the spawn and the entrance elsewhere. Derp.

[–]fauxstellata 0 points1 point ago

I got my "most teleports" doing something like this.

May have spent my match taunting near the exit, but thats irrelevant.

[–]Cupcaketf2 2 points3 points ago

Nothing makes me feel more red in the face stupid then...

Missing the jump through the grate on 2fort as soldier.

I always look around to make sure no one saw that.

[–]Atnas 2 points3 points ago

feels worse as pyro with detonator, as its many times more difficult and many people dont realize you can, so you come off as some dummy trying to do something impossible. (which it was until a month ago)

[–]TheCodexx 2 points3 points ago

I handle rocket jumps fine, even if I have some trouble aiming them. That is until I'm in a match and need to go to go to a critical ledge. Then I end up looking down, mashing space and control, and awkwardly jumping five feet into the air before coming down and taking massive fall damage for a pitiful jump.

[–]JohhnyTopside 5 points6 points ago

Ubering in the spawn room...during setup..

[–]LandMooseReject 2 points3 points ago

"Premature Ubers tend to happen around me"

[–]JohhnyTopside 1 point2 points ago

I-I'm sorry i.. I don't know what happened..its been so long and.. No, please come back!

[–]cozeffect2 3 points4 points ago

I was derping around as a demoman on payload defense, and had the half zatoichi equipped because I was low on health. A medic saw me, and started healing me. There was a sentry ahead so he popped his uber on me. All I could do was flail aimlessly at the sentry while the medic was yelling over his mic to "kill it, what the hell are you doing?"

[–]fauxstellata 3 points4 points ago

To be fair, that's the medic's fault completely. He should look at who the hell he's ubering.

Most medics with brains would rather uber a spy or sniper than a demoknight, so why an uber on a zatoichi-knight would be a good idea I have no idea.

[–]Python422 1 point2 points ago

I almost cried when a medic ubered me when I had the zatoichi out. He was cool about it though.

[–]WarrenY 2 points3 points ago

Every time ever.

[–]Xplayer 3 points4 points ago

I will never feel more idiotic and humiliated as a proud pyro than being backstabbed by the spy I just set on fire and tried to axe.

[–]robhol 0 points1 point ago

I love doing this so much. It doesn't work too often (mostly because I'm still kind of a long way from true ninja skills), but when it does... well, I might as well have died, I'll be trying not to die of laughter for the next 15 seconds.

[–]sputnix 3 points4 points ago

my dumbest moment was when I was auto balanced to the other team and I didn't register it in my brain, so while playing pyro and saw teammates on fire, instead of puffing them out, I switched to my Axtinguisher and started hitting them with it, and when they died I thought I killed them. It wasn't until a couple of deaths later I finally figured out colour my team was yeah not my proudest moment

[–]Super_Inuit 2 points3 points ago

I ran at a spy as a W M1 Pyro thinking "I'm a pyro, I got this."

He revolvered me to death. No random crits.

EDIT: From full health

[–]Illusion13 2 points3 points ago

I once tried to be a leet engi by setting up tele entrance right away, and then my nest, using the set up time. Wasnt by a minute or so after the match started that I realized I had built the exit instead by our spawn. I proceeed to announce that I am a fucking idiot and then rage quit.

[–]saioke 2 points3 points ago

Trying to airblast another pyro off a platform in capture point, but the point had this roof above that didn't allow for proper airblasts. I forget the name of the map. Ended up getting our medic killed in the process; which caused the medic to complain that I sucked. I did suck, I don't know what I was thinking, but that's the worst moment I ever had in the game.

[–]UniqueError 1 point2 points ago

Could be nucleus?

Nope, this map was sort of like Badlands. Maybe a custom version of Badlands. The control point was on this mountainous region, like the one you can find on Badlands, but it was all closed off, except for an entrance from the front.

[–]IAMWastingMyTime 2 points3 points ago

Well once I had installed mumble and made the push-to-talk key the same as my screenshot key. Went on like that for a week before realizing it.

[–]DeltaEks 2 points3 points ago

On koth_harvest; I have über; I see a heavy calling for medic; I über him; He just walks around and does nothing for 5 seconds; turns out it was a spy...

[–]pofoman456 2 points3 points ago

I uber'd an enemy spy

[–]tehInvader 2 points3 points ago

reflected a sticky tramp to a friendly medic... who had the uber ready :(

[–]Fremen13 2 points3 points ago

I was in a scrim with my team last night and I fucking popped by mistake. I didn't press M2 on purpose, it just kind of happened as my finger twitched from weapon switch over to M2....but I was kinda high so I'm going to use that as an excuse.

[–]lil-cthulhu[S] 1 point2 points ago

I did the same thing only without having being high as an excuse :( immediate shame quit.

[–]ObservingOwl 1 point2 points ago

It's usually when I'm playing pyro. I've just started really practicing it, but I've gotten really good at airblasting rockets, and can have volleys on dodgeball servers at over 200 mph and what not. For some reason, though, when I'm just pubbing about to practice, I miss three fucking rockets in a fucking row and that stupid soldier kills me and I only ever set him on fire with a flare. Sigh. TT

[–]ritzhi_ 0 points1 point ago

Dammit me too....I was fairly good at airblasting (usually no kills but I use it to send a message to the soldier or demo '' hey I'm not a noob pyro'') Then I read about the dodge ball servers.... I failed misably, then back pub servers I COULDN'T AIRBLAST NOTHING! :(

[–]davis8282 1 point2 points ago

The other day as medic I just got full ubercharge and the heavy I was pocketing just died. As I made my way towards re spawn, I saw a funny message in chat and attempt to reply to it, accidentally pressing o which I have bound to kill. So frustrating...

[–]herpaderpster 0 points1 point ago

why do people bind kill keys?

[–]meow_sprinkles 7 points8 points ago

Also for comp matches sometimes the heavy classes will be asked to suicide during setup to provide metal for an engy.

[–]davis8282 3 points4 points ago

In certain situations it can be useful, like if you need to get to spawn quickly, or if you simply want to mess around. And I thought that it would be far enough on the keyboard that I wouldn't hit it accidentally. Obviously not.

[–]CuriositySphere 6 points7 points ago

It's useful sometimes. If you're definitely going to die, it can be better to catch an earlier respawn wave. If it's at the beginning of a round, you should suicide for the engineer. Things like that.

[–]Obj_solid -1 points0 points ago

playing as a battle medic whenever I charge at a pyro with the saw, or a pyro is charging at me while I'm shooting needles at him, I expect him never to airblast and I'd almost always come out victor, but more and more I just get air-blasted against the wall burning then shot with a shotgun like an idiot, I miss ignorant pyros.

[–]Jimmy 1 point2 points ago

Every time a sentry kills me while I'm trying to blow it up. Makes me feel like a failure of a demo. :(

[–]Canadiandynamite 0 points1 point ago

Sometimes I'll shoot at players on the same team as me. No, not because I'm spychecking. But because I haven't realized I got switched! It still happens sometimes when I'm not paying attention or afk.

[–]Pengn 1 point2 points ago

I once sat around as Soldier mindlessly building Uber while a Pyro came around and fried my Medic. I somehow failed to notice this, despite him telling me about it over voice chat.

I departed the server in shame.

[–]AggieDem 1 point2 points ago

Every time I'm on a 5 CP and I forget which team I'm on.

[–]fireinthesky7 1 point2 points ago

Early on in my demoman days, I had more than a few instances of trying to shoot my sticky bombs over a wall, not noticing that they weren't quite making it. I blew myself up a lot. I'll still have moments when I miss one or two with the Scottish Resistance and forget that I'm standing on them when I hit M2.

[–]jetricx -1 points0 points ago

Building a teleporter exit instead of an entrance at the beginning of a round...and only realizing til I try to build the exit later.

[–]robhol 0 points1 point ago

I have a bad tendency to keep cloaking under the worst possible conditions. Not sure why, I just panic.

Fire? Welp, better cloak. Jarate? Clooaaak... and then, half a second later... wtf, brain?!

[–]LoomLoomKABOOM 0 points1 point ago

I do the same thing, I think it's because I'm so used to DR.

[–]nottinoob 0 points1 point ago

As a medic, -Falling for obvious matador stab, -Kritzing an enemy spy which was disguised as a demo(which then kritz enforcer shot me to death) and -Overhealing an enemy spy which then stabs you when you later on.

[–]MeldingPlague 0 points1 point ago

Pretty much any time I become Hale in the Saxton Hale mod. It becomes a feeding frenzy when the other team realizes that Hale has no idea what he is doing. I'm okay with it, though. I think it's uplifting for the whole team to mercilessly dominate Hale every once in awhile. I like to think I fill the gap between getting trounced by veteran Hale players who know how to trounce 31 adversaries with ease.

[–]TheCodexx 0 points1 point ago

I've played so much Minecraft that I often press "Q" to drop my Sandvich because it's the same basic idea as throwing blocks/items and it even has a similar look and feel to it.

So naturally I swap to the Minigun and sometimes I don't realize I didn't throw the Sandvich, just switched back to my main hand weapon.

[–]funkyb 0 points1 point ago

Last night I was playing DH soldier on Hoodo stage 1. I was defending the doorway to the final cap and saw a nemesis sign hanging above someone I couldn't see down the wooden tunnel on the ledge just outside where I was. I was hopping and sending (useless) DH rockets over his head Nd trying to see who it was. Turns out it was a sniper and he caught on to my hopping. POW, right in the kisser.

[–]rannos 0 points1 point ago

One time I followed an enemy spy around for a minute or so healing him thinking it was my friend that I was playing with. Turns out my friend was just trolling me and telling me the spy was him. I had a good laugh when the spy got the "FYI i'm a Spy" achievement.

[–]PastaNinja 1 point2 points ago

I posted this before, but trying to sticky jump with the Grenade Launcher.

[–]gilmore606 0 points1 point ago

Getting lost on my way to A while defending Steel. With a medic in tow. And a couple other teammates following. We didn't get there until it was already capped.

The worst part is that I've probably played Steel a hundred times.

[–]miss_j_bean 0 points1 point ago

There are a few maps my brain just can't properly store and there have been a few times when I've wandered completely lost. Once there was another player who kept following me as I wandered in circles. I kept trying to tell him I was lost, too, but he either didn't understand or didn't care. We never found the "Action" and the round ended.

Also, when playing on nucleus, I'd venture that at least 70% of my deaths are my own fault. When I play on my laptop it's hard to time where I think I am with where I actually am (blow myself up a lot on the lappy, too).

[–]Junipero 1 point2 points ago

As a medic,

  • Whenever I get lured away from the group into a 1-on-1 (or worse, into the oncoming enemy team). I let this happen to me 3 lives in a row once.
  • When I can't find any single one of my teammates and I'm just running around like a jackass in an empty part of the map (this happens less now, after getting used to most of the maps).

[–]the_comedian666 0 points1 point ago

Chasing a spy up the stairs...only to have him stair stab me.

[–]Medibro 1 point2 points ago

During my first game, I thought Spy was the best class in the game because he could instantly kill enemies with the Knife. I didn't realise you had to backstab them and I didn't even know how to disguise or cloak. I ran around in plain sight trying to melee enemies for like three rounds, even Pyros. I facepalm whenever I look back at this moment.

[–]BubbaWoop 0 points1 point ago

plr_hightower, at the enemies' barn, with heavy at full über, walk backwards off the cliff

[–]turtle_logo 0 points1 point ago

not scouting a 6-pool

[–]HypocriteOpportunist 0 points1 point ago

I hate to admit this, but one time, I ubered a Heavy with the intention of him running up and taking out the sentry. When we ran in there ubered, he stood in front of the sentry just taunting and I got mad and started yelling on the mic, "Why aren't you taking out the sentry!?" Then I realized I ubered a spy and felt like an idiot. Ugh...

[–]greenbot 4 points5 points ago

Disguised spies can't taunt. This is either a lie, or that was just a shitty heavy.

[–]HypocriteOpportunist 1 point2 points ago

I guess you're right, maybe he didn't taunt but he stood there crouching and jumping while I felt like an idiot. Why would I lie about being dumb? If anything I would try to hide it.
