Am i that bad of a person if i simply just don't enjoy healing people as much as fighting? I play tf2 pubs to have fun, when i want to play to win i play in a competitive environment. You can't convince the casual crowd to stop having fun so they can win...

I'd actually say part of the fun in playing in pubs is the whole process of herding cats. Can you create enough ad-hoc cooperation on your team to get them to win?

lunch all over screen. herding cats, that sounds hilarious.

While it would be nice to see a few more medics, I agree with this. If your team is remotely care about winning, they would switch to medic anyway.
And, no, I don't enjoy healing peopel either. Ze healing is not as rewarding as ze hurting. evil grin

2 bits. As someone who mains as medic, being a medic on a team is only useful to the team if you have a good number of main-line combat classes (demo, soldier, pyro, heavy) If you join the team and there are a bunch of engineers, spies, snipers, and scouts with an odd pyro or heavy, the extra firepower of an extra combat class is actually more useful.

Fair. But if you switch to medic, this might encourage others to choose a more... useful class.

Or you can leverage your "sacrifice" playing medic to guilt them into it.

The best way is to pick one of the players in the top 3 on the scoreboard and ask them to go pocket for you in team chat, usually they can play at least one combat class well.

For me, it's the effort to win that makes things fun, not the act of winning itself. But often, without a medic, that effort is so insanely crushed that the fun wears off.

This. Upvote.

Clearly someone beat me to it. The point stands.

Fun, fun for all!

This is why I bought myself a strange Medi Gun. Even though I main Medic, it encourages me to build those ubers and stay alive as much as possible because sometimes, let's face it, medic isn't the most fun class to play sometimes, especially when you have a cruddy team. And when I see the class count when joining a server to find there's no Medic, sometimes I feel it's my responsibility to go Medic even if I don't really want to. But I then think about how less fun it would be if there was no Medic at all... and I cave in.

sound logic. My usual deterent is not being defended well by my patient. I know i need to be aware of my surrounds, but it's sort of a different environment being the picked target as medic rather than a general nuisance as pyro. Spys stay away, i can deal with everyone pretty much except a point blank heavy.

anyways i started tf2 playing medic back in vanilla, it REALLY helped learning the game and maps and there is nothing more gratifying knowing you carried that ubercharge like a baby and birthered it in such a manner that it gave your team such a destructive power, effectively winning a match. ...hmm seems like ill be medicing tonight.

Love it

Actually, if I'm playing with a good pocket, being medic is REALLY fun for me.

I remember one time I was playing with a really good heavy in Gravel Pit defending...Our entire team went to one of the B to defend while the Heavy, me and 1 other player (Switched between soldier and demo) defended A. I generally stuck with the heavy but made sure to heal the soldier/demo. Me and the heavy didn't die at all that round while the soldier/demo only died once or twice. (The other team had split up about half and half at this point).

Point B got capped in a few minutes (they got practically steam rolled) and were setting up at C. But me and the heavy, soldier/demo and one other player (I think a pyro?) managed to defend at A with ease. I even got a few kills lol.

[–]thebmo 0 points1 point ago

that sounds VERY close to a heavy rampage i had a few months ago.

I really like playing medic. It means I only die several times a round, and I'm usually heavily involved in each major push/ cap.

Medic is a low skill, high strategy class. Less about reflexes and luck, more about planning and making decisions.

Plus its easy to get MVP, which feelsgoodman.jpg.

[–]thebmo 1 point2 points ago

semi disagree here. a high skilled medic is a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE destructive force. that needle gun DPS is redonkulous. a good melee hit and youre feeling it, but timing goes into play on that.

the rest i pretty much agree with you on though.

[–]Rubix1988 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, everyone underestimates the needle gun. Its great when a scout runs straight at you thinking hes got an easy kill and you just needle him to the face.

I used to play really aggressively as a medic, but the general consensus on r/tf2 seems to be playing it safe, buffing your team and building uber, so lately I've been playing more defensively.

[–]JohhnyTopside 0 points1 point ago

I always play medic if A. I'm pocketing my friend B. I'm on an anywhere near competent team. C. I actually feel like trying. I do like medic though and I encourage people to try it more

My policy is that if I don't want to play medic, but we don't have one, I will generally switch. If I am one of the only combat classes, I won't switch, because I wouldn't have anyone to protect me anyway. So if I switch, I usually stick with medic until I either top the scoreboard, or another player starts playing medic.
