I get this 3-4x a day on the Fleet. I'll allow it.

I didn't even know that was a problem.

I'm sorry, but no.

The game has been out for well over a month, and a lot of that during a holiday period where the majority of their player-base had lots of free time. How long can you reasonably expect Bioware to make the leveling process without turning it into a massive grindfest?

Also, I don't think the it effects subscriptions as much as you think. One of the most surefire ways to retain numbers is by having a compelling and fleshed-out endgame. This means solid 'loot treadmill' PVE, compelling/balanced PVP, extensive solo content (e.g. exploration, professions and achievements. In my experience, achievements in particular also really helped expand the player demographics in WoW, as I noticed quite a few of our raider's girlfriends loved that aspect and would spend hours online on doing them) and great social mechanics to make the game as painless as possible (e.g. summoning, chat interfaces, grouping interfaces etc).

You cannot rely on people taking their time to reach max level in a MMO, because no matter how 'good' you think your leveling process is, there are many people who feel (rightly or wrongly) the game doesn't start until max level. And alts aren't always an option for everyone due to the vast majority of shared/repeated content they'll have to re-do (in total, what does your class quest actually take up? 5-10%?).

I'm with you on most of this... game is loosing its fun for me; I feel like I've been damn patient. But I don't know, if you've ever played WoW, and then you go to this... I don't know how you deal with how broken and slow the combat is... its so unresponsive and bugged. I can only think that there are lots of people that don't know any better and think its fine. But for me, how they release a game with such broken combat is mind boggling.

WoW had issues early too. Heck even when BG's were first announced you could 3 shot people. Spellpower wasn't really even a real stat. Seal of the Crusader was 40% attack speed + attack power/Reckoning Bombs. Rogues. Rogues. Rogues.

I'm with you on this one, no MMO that has been out for a month has been perfect. Especially one with a big fanbase like SWTOR. I'm willing to play this game for a long time as is, and it will only get better from here on out.

[–]Alaskan_AssassinConcealment Op / Dark Reaper 1 point2 points ago

When did you start playing wow? In vanilla, that shit was worse that swtor is right now. Actually in comparison Swtor is gold compared to wow's early days... What alot of people that diss swtor fail to realize or ignore it all together is, wow had what 9 years to be polished to what it is today. Swtor has been out for a month... FFS give it time people.

[–]CurzenCodag | Sniper | The Fatman -1 points0 points ago

SWTOR is competing with WoW of today, not with WoW of 9 years ago.

[–]Alaskan_AssassinConcealment Op / Dark Reaper 1 point2 points ago

To an extent. You can't have a brand new mmo drop, from a developer that it completely virgin to mmo, and expect it to beat the giant that is wow...I played wow for way too many years because it was the best. ATM swtor has potential to be the best, is it there no, but it will be. It's been a month and some days since release of course it's buggy and sloppy. But it is still way better than any other mmo ON RELEASE. FUrthermore swtor still has some things over the wow of "today", including interactive quests, awesome story, fucking lightsabers, HANDS DOWN BEST CRAFTING SYSTEM OF ANY MMO. And more but I'm done shitting, so I have to go now.

That disconnect happened nearly every time I tried boarding my ship. It was rather obnoxious.

[–]apathybill 4 points5 points ago

This happens to me sometimes and when I log back in I have no audio and dialogs don't work. I have to do a complete game restart for anything to work right. Does not happen often though.

[–]TehRenzoRenzoløl | Medic | Kai-kan EU 5 points6 points ago

this happens to me too; also portraits are all blackened out

[–]BiGGxMiKESylantrin 1 point2 points ago

I can also confirm that this happens to me. I'll log on, and for about 10-15 minutes my latency will go from low to the 20,000s. Sometimes it stays connected, but most of the time I'll be dropped. Once I log back in I'll have no sound and won't be able to talked to people (and portraits are blacked out). I thought it was just me & my internet at first, but I'm glad I'm not the only one lol. Can anyone confirm that this was fixed today? I won't be able to log in until tomorrow. >.<

i played for two hours from 12-2pm pacific and didn't get booted...ran 4 warzones boot-free, which is a first.

[–]drew46n2Cindrryn | 50 Sith Assassin | Lord Praven 2 points3 points ago

Im glad im not alone...i thought my internet was wonky. It's been happening more frequently lately, too.

[–]Hastav[S] 1 point2 points ago

It has happened to me once, I just relogged and that was that. I have heard of people facing quest oriented bugs and issues after reconnecting due to this, restarting the client fixed it.

[–]mrselkies 3 points4 points ago

Why couldn't this be lumped into the actual patch day when they were already bringing the servers down?

[–]Cataphract1014 5 points6 points ago

If you got disconnected every few hours or minutes, you would want them to push the patch that fixed it out as fast as possible.

[–]GraunKrynnGuardian | <Crimson Elite> | Jung Ma 2 points3 points ago

Just because it's not an issue for you doesn't mean it's not an issue for countless other people.

[–]TaintedSquirrelThe Munchies Legacy | Canderous Ordo 3 points4 points ago

Because there are likely other stealth changes in this patch that we're not being told about.

[–]mrselkies 0 points1 point ago

That's just... bad communication, isn't it? I kind of want to know what's being fixed

[–]sil3ntgh0stZero/Cabiria/Unmasked | <Chosen> | Terentatek 0 points1 point ago

Not necessarily. It could be just hotfixes that don't affect gameplay but makes things easier for players. One of the biggest changes I noticed in 1.1 that wasn't in the official patch notes were that moving things in and out of the cargo bay auto-stacked if you already had that item in your inventory/cargo bay. Easily one of my favorite fixes since one of my alts has scavenging, bioanalysis and archaeology.

[–]RobeauxcopPsychotoast - Rakata Mind Prison 5 points6 points ago

Well, I for one am glad that they're jumping on problems. Lots of people complain, but I really think they've been doing a great job so far. Just gonna take time to get everything dialed in!

[–]UtheimBloodworthy 1 point2 points ago

"Why aren't you guys fixing bugs?"

"Why are you guys fixing this bug?? This isn't affecting me!"

"Why are you fixing this bug now and not later!!"

"Why??"

Oh, btw. I totally agree.

[–]jargoonJargoon | That's No Goon | Keller's Void 3 points4 points ago

I really wish they would roll out server updates like companies like Facebook and Twitter do.

For example: http://engineering.twitter.com/2010/07/murder-fast-datacenter-code-deploys.html

[–]Demonace34Demonace - Jeddit | Sentinel-Watchman | The Shadowlands 1 point2 points ago*

I've had it happen from time to time, glad it is fixed. I doubt the servers were taken down just for this bug.

[–]RedSnakeSith Marauder | The Ravager 0 points1 point ago

Servers are back!

[–]ESF 0 points1 point ago

Works for me, it happened to me during some warzones, and most of them I were winning too. So I'll allow it, even if I planned on playing before work today. (EU)

[–]FruckFrace 0 points1 point ago

I heard there was an exploit where sorcs could 1 shot someone.... Just a rumor though.

[–]raffletime 0 points1 point ago

You can't get disconnected if you don't connect, looks like they were at 100% success rate.

[–]fni31 1 point2 points ago

Nah, that is just a high-priority fix they probably had ready to go and took this opportunity to push it to live.

The downtime (like most other unscheduled maintenance periods) is simply because of exploitation.

For reasons you can probably imagine, they're not going to divulge the specifics in the patch notes until after they're sure it's fixed, if at all. (They made a similar mistake when they put the 'Operative group-stealth while capturing a Warzone objective' fix in the PTR patch notes - it only makes the problem worse).

If you really want to know what they're fixing, it's only a quick google away - unfortunately there are forums dedicated to that kind of stuff. But as this sub-reddit tries to be a somewhat decent community, posting information about current in-game exploits is frowned upon.
