My only thing I have against the new layout is that the video's on the frontpage auto play. I can understand the auto play when you click on a video being nice but it would be nice if when I enter the website the video that first uploads doe snot auto play. Its only a small thing though. Thank you for asking what our opinion is it means a lot. <3

[–]DrTchocky 23 points24 points ago*

Agreed. Everything is awesome except for auto-play. I support IPL, and I'm likely to watch the video, so not sure its necessary to force it on me __^

[–]SwampyNZ 1 point2 points ago

Agree. no autoplay please

[–]BennettIGN 4 points5 points ago

We love the support, Dr. T. Perhaps we should do an experiment to see how many people watch the featured videos without them autoplaying. I'll run it by the rest of our engineers.

[–]brennanr 13 points14 points ago

I have to agree with the no auto-play suggestion. If you do run the test also correlate how many less people insta-close the webpage.

[–]DrTchocky 8 points9 points ago*

I think data behind video views would be very interesting (in terms of auto-play vs. not), but I think the more important metric here is customer satisfaction.

A valuable IPL customer may watch a video regardless of autoplay, but they may be far less happy about it. I understand that IPL needs to generate revenue from videos/ads like this, but I think creating exciting and compelling video material will drive views (perhaps not as much as auto-play, but hopefully something comparable). I get the impression that the IPL is trying to create a product that is catered specifically to its users and people very involved in the sc2 scene, and not a company thats simply interested in generating simple and easy material that will bring in cash. Auto-play goes against this philosophy.

[–]z33k_DoomsVille 5 points6 points ago

Agreed. The biggest issue I had was that the autoplay led to an autoplay commercial which was obviously way louder than anything else and blasted my ears.

I immediately closed the website from the ear torment.

[–]Shadygaga 4 points5 points ago

Agreed. I'm actually okay with the autoplay as long as it didn't start with sound enabled by default. I understand wanting the ad to start. I admit I wouldn't have clicked it if it didn't autoplay. But there could be hundreds of places someone is looking at your site from, and 100 things they can be doing with sound, and having sound on any website automatically start is a no-no in my opinion generally with websites. The video autoplaying is fine, just didn't see a way to mute it or stop the sound without closing your entire site and not exploring it further, which I think we'd both agree is not the action you would like to see.

[–]BennettIGN -1 points0 points ago

Thanks, Weaklink. We at IPL fight over this everyday.

How about a compromise?: The homepage featured videos autoplay after a period of time. Maybe 2 minutes.

[–]2uneek 19 points20 points ago

some people have bandwidth limits, some people have high volume, some people don't want a video to load. If someone hasn't clicked play after 2 minutes, they must not want to watch that specific content. I understand autoplay will generate revenue due to ads, but don't force content on people, give them the option.

[–]nutshell42 1 point2 points ago

Important:

  1. Just sayin': Autoplay is a big no-no. If you're that desperate for ad impressions put a (silent) banner ad on the splash screen of your player.

Bugs/Missing Features:

  1. Sometimes the video starts playing before the ad ends.

  2. The layout is messed up in Chromium on my portrait mode display (1200x1920). In particular the main video only fills a quarter of the width and is stamp size.

  3. Clicking the video or hitting space should (un)pause it.

  4. The navigation of the schedule is messed up no matter what orientation or resolution.

  5. The four items below the main video aren't equal size.

  6. I hate players that don't allow arbitrary buffering or at least don't tell you how much is buffered.

Layout:

  1. If the thumbs of the video list are basically just a bunch of giant splash screens instead of actual action shots then make them smaller and let us sort by category.

  2. In fact, is there any way to sort shit? If I know I want that greatest plays from 3 months ago, I wouldn't even know where to start looking.

  3. So there's a match listed. But is there any way to quickly see why it matters? What are the brackets, why was it played? Who would the winner play against, how did they get there?

The homepage featured videos autoplay after a period of time. Maybe 2 minutes

That might be the single most terrible idea for a web page I've ever heard. And we've had a lot of "great" ideas over the last years.

[–]harpertown 2 points3 points ago

We at IPL fight over this everyday.

really?

[–]BennettIGN 2 points3 points ago

Well, now we're fighting over the responses in this thread :)

[–]ztherion 1 point2 points ago

If I have IPL's homepage open in another tab, and do something else for two minutes, suddenly I have an ad blasting and I have to hunt down the tab that's causing it. That's even more annoying.

Just have the video paused by default, with a huge "play" button. People who are actually interested in watching the video will do so. If they didn't want to watch the video, auto-play will only get in their way and annoy them to no end.

[–]Seiru 1 point2 points ago

If the idea is to attract viewers, maybe have a clickable splash image for the video instead.

[–]MaybeGiveUp 24 points25 points ago

I have one! Please put a countdown timer to next to close events, like TL does. As in "Prime vs Empire starts in 4h30min". For an international audience, this is a lot easier than to go look at time zones.

The new site looks a lot better overall, gj.

[–]paulgrock 4 points5 points ago

This is a great idea and something we have planned. Thanks.

[–]FakeSam 21 points22 points ago

it seems impossible to mute the commercial and also auto-starting video makes visiting the website really annoying

[–]AlexIGN[S] 19 points20 points ago

This is great feedback, thanks! How would you like it if everything started off muted and you had to click unmute to hear? That way you don't get blasted by sound.

[–]BennettIGN 10 points11 points ago

From now on, this is how I will start all of my conversations with you. I'll need to unmute you to actually hear what you're saying.

[–]tifachia 1 point2 points ago

Ahahahaha oh Bennett ^

[–]McLogan 9 points10 points ago

I would love that <3

[–]Bagel 2 points3 points ago

Incoming flood of idiots average users: "omg the sound isn't working on the video blah blah blah"

If you take that route a friendly in-laid popup on the video player with a visual indication of a mute symbol would help.

[–]FakeSam 0 points1 point ago

Steam like video would be great. At least the commercial - the video itself is not an issue. Solving the commercial volume problem would be more than enough

[–]Zackismet 1 point2 points ago

I think that's actually what Steam does. Unless you select to never auto-play videos, they will, well, automatically play- but on mute. Works great.

[–]Shadygaga 1 point2 points ago

This! If it started muted, that would be great, and the video could still autoplay!

[–]16dots 0 points1 point ago

yep, just like how steam does it.

[–]BennettIGN 2 points3 points ago

We're working on allowing viewers to mute ads. That fix should be done shortly.

[–]ubershmekel 0 points1 point ago

(ツ)

[–]Rit4LiN 9 points10 points ago

I looked over it for maybe 20 seconds, and I have kind of an idea what's going on but nothing stands out. The first impression should answer the following questions.

  • What tournament or tournament related content is currently going on
  • What tournament or tournament related content is comming up

The current site is good, I'm not saying the information is unavailable or hard to find (probably). But the first impression doesn't tell me anything about what's going on.

[–]BennettIGN 3 points4 points ago

You're absolutely right. We need to be clear about what is going on instead of just throwing a list of new videos out there.

[–]BennettIGN 7 points8 points ago

Between this thread and the survey results:

  • stop auto-playing the featured videos
  • make it easy to find current tournament information (IPL 4, TAC 2, brackets, prize pool, etc.)

Half of you said that you couldn't find what you were looking for. Can you guys help us out? What content was hard to find? We'll implement good suggestions just as long as it's not "When/where is IPL 4?"

[–]phrontis 4 points5 points ago

What about searchable tags for vods? (ZvP, Kiwikaki, IPL3, Metalopolis, etc.)

[–]BennettIGN 6 points7 points ago

That's a great idea, phrontis. We need to make it much easier for you to find the exact kinds of videos you're looking for.

[–]Nifiel 0 points1 point ago

A good vod archive, something like gomtv has on their site would be nice!

[–]Crackensan 5 points6 points ago

Please Please PLEASE make it so I can quickly find out results. Like, a big giant button on the main page. MLG's website is NOTORIOUS for burying results and brackets.

TL;DR: Make it easy for me to find brackets and results with one click

[–]BennettIGN 4 points5 points ago

Heard loud and clear.

[–]Crackensan 3 points4 points ago

Thank you! ♥

[–]2uneek 2 points3 points ago

some very minor things that bothered me instantly were the auto-play as soon as the website loads, the 9th game of a series' bubble goes to a new row (could just make them smaller and utilize 1 row, its very minor but it does erk me), the body content seems to use more space than is needed due to the size of the images, just make smaller thumbnails or something, you could display double the content, a lack of tooltips across the board - they can also produce quite a bit of content without forcing people to navigate away from the page, not a big fan of dark grey, light grey, and white color scheme but that's just being picky not really a complaint....

[–]paulgrock 2 points3 points ago

Hey 2uneek. What are the dimensions of your browser (also which browser are you using) when the when the ninth bubble goes down to a new row? That is definitely something that I'll fix. Will you clarify what you're looking for in the tool tips? Thanks for the feedback.

Yay, I need more fans. Tell your friends :)

[–]Mister_Donut 1 point2 points ago

You forgot the mandatory "follow me on Twitter" blurb

[–]paulgrock 1 point2 points ago

oh, my bad...follow me on twitter @paulgrock

[–]2uneek 0 points1 point ago

I am running 1920x1080 in Chrome but i had chrome ctrl+zoom'd +1 by accident.. once i realized this it went back down, however i do believe it may affect other resolutions.... Tooltips may not work as you're using Google Calendar, as i just realized... but perhaps for team matches the lineups and casters oO... For the Game Tabs, tooltip things such as the map... sometimes i browse specific matchups for a specific map and it would be quite useful... The sites very nice and im sorry for confusion...

Also, does google calendar support your own CSS, it seems to have a very different theme than the rest of the website, ie: links are red, the date rows are blue, just doesn't mesh with the rest of the website very well......

[–]paulgrock 0 points1 point ago

We're using an iframe for google calendar which can't be modified with CSS but we're looking into other implementations. If you click on the google calendar title ([SC2][EU] IPL TAC2 - LR1 for instance) it dropdown to show more information about the upcoming match. As for the video bubbles (I guess that's what we're calling them) they do drop to a second line at smaller resolutions.

Thanks again for the feedback. It's been loads of help.

[–]2uneek 0 points1 point ago

i think this might be of use to you guys if restyling the calendar is something you would like to do, http://www.restylegc.com/ it basically injects new css rules with jquery and overrides google's default css. It's shocking to me that google wouldn't throw in customization of appareance, i assumed it was much like adsense where you can easily mesh it with your design and colors..

[–]MiGnH 0 points1 point ago

Thanks! We will look into using this

[–]BennettIGN 1 point2 points ago

This is extremely helpful criticism. Some of the layout imperfections bother us, too. We'll revisit our choices to see if there are ways to be more efficient. I'm not so sure we would want to show more content necessarily since we were aiming to keep things simple. The full IPL video catalog is at http://ign.com/ipl/tv.

[–]2uneek 0 points1 point ago

Here is how i would design the content-body on the front page... (The Video section) - it displays the same information you currently are, adds in more information(and more reason someone may want to watch the video) and saves more space - allowing room for more content if you'd like...

http://imgur.com/9vW9h

[–]BennettIGN 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for comps, 2uneek. Send me a message if you're interested in doing some work for the IPL.

[–]c0d3m45t3r 3 points4 points ago

why isn't the IPL iOS app available in EU?

[–]BennettIGN 1 point2 points ago

Good question. I'll find out and PM you.

[–]c0d3m45t3r 0 points1 point ago

Thank you but it was just my fault. It's for the iPad only. I tried searching for it with my iPod.

[–]robhoward 3 points4 points ago

I can't believe theres even debate over whether having a giant bandwidth heavy auto playing video on the home page is a good idea. Make that expandable/collapsable or something and the site is really nice but with it I would never visit in a thousand years given I can get most of the content elsewhere.

[–]BennettIGN 1 point2 points ago

There's definitely been a lot of debate about the best way to present IPL video content.

[–]jiubling 2 points3 points ago

Really good looking. Please don't autoplay video/ad upon loading the page though. It seems cool, but it really goes against user convenience.

[–]probablydyslexic 5 points6 points ago

I'm not advocating completely ripping off ideas or plagiarism but everything about GomTV's site is doing it right.

Please look there for inspiration.

[–]BennettIGN 12 points13 points ago

Crap. Does that mean that we have to learn to code in Korean?

[–]sertman 11 points12 points ago

[–]BennettIGN 2 points3 points ago

Is that how to say "Crap." in Korean?

[–]wAvelulz 2 points3 points ago

I like it. I just don't like the autoplay, it would be fine it it was muted.

[–]Tjimmeske 1 point2 points ago

Or simply muteable? I instantly closed the site when I discovered I couldn't mute the ad.

[–]1234blahblahblah 1 point2 points ago

No, it wouldn't. The video and audio are still being streamed to your computer and wasting bandwidth.

[–]kirillis 2 points3 points ago*

i really hate it when I can´t find the brackets and tournament related infos quick on a tournament site. i´m sorry but maybe i´m too tired or something but i couldn´t find any info for the new ipl or the past ones. no player info, particpant, past champions and so on.. one page that does deliver consitnely is liquipedia, see: this why isn´t this info on your site, and if it is, why can´t i find it? O_o designwise i don´t really like it. it is very full and not easy to navigate. the buttons in the main menu seem weird, not aligned properly and the spacing is off IMO. i liked the mor minimal styl of the old site much more. but i do like the implementation of the google calender, although one can still see that its a "foreign" element to the site, it adds functionality.

[–]BennettIGN 1 point2 points ago

Good points. We'll at least get mirror the TAC 2 information found at http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id= 300307.

Honestly, TL does a better job presenting information about the IPL than we do. Definitely something we need to address.

[–]ggBet 0 points1 point ago

The new site is much nicer than the old. Big improvement.

Few things I dont like are:

  • the schedule: Embedded google calendar is not really good enough, particularly when this seems like one of the most important features.

  • results: Where can I see a list of the past results? If I havent been keeping up with the league I'd love to quickly view the past results before I sit down to watch the current match.

Great to see the site is evolving. GomTV has set a very high bench mark for SC2 league sites. Their records and scheduling pages are updated in near real time and provide all the information you need at a glance.

[–]1234blahblahblah 1 point2 points ago

You can start by removing the auto playing video + ad from the homepage. That is SOOOOOOOOOO ANNNOOOYYYYINNNNGGGG.

Seriously. What the hell is wrong with the people that are in charge of ads? People DO NOT browse one page at a time anymore. We haven't done it for years. NO ONE wants to open a tab in the background and then start hearing an ad.

Stop contributing to ad overload!

[–]Beardcrafter 0 points1 point ago

You can have advert banners, nothing will make me visit your site whilst auto play ads even exist (unless i choose a stream). Im not a die hard fan however, loved IPL 3 though.

[–]McLogan 1 point2 points ago

Ive always had trouble with your site, but i like the new version. Maybe make the schedule button bigger, and link to another page?

[–]Blancgab 1 point2 points ago

I like the IPL TV, but I don't particularly like how the main IPL page, ign.com/ipl tries to combine being a video player and an community hub/info page.

If I go to ign.com/ipl, I'm going for information on what tournaments are running, if there's a new fight club, when IPL4 will be, if there are any new community articles, etc. If I see something interesting, I want to click on it, then be taken to a video of it playing (think youtube).

I preferred the old aesthetic design style a little better, but I might like the new web content better if you get rid of the huge central video player on the front page.

Edit:

Also, solid button links are always preferable to drop down menus. Too many drop down menus.

[–]downfell 0 points1 point ago

Honestly, all I really want is to easily be able to download games and watch them at the gym on my Kindle Fire sans internet connection. I would be perfectly happy if ads were embedded in the downloadable vod itself. My gym doesn't have wifi, so the slickest website in the world doesn't help me. Instead, I end up watching other Starcraft related things that let me easily download it-- which, realistically, includes anything uploaded to youtube. I realize that this may be incompatible with your business model and that you may not be able to monetize the vods, but I would be willing to pay for this convenience.

[–]paulgrock 0 points1 point ago

We don't currently have any plans for downloadable content like you suggest but I'll bring that up and see if we can figure out a solution that would meet your needs.

[–]MiGnH 1 point2 points ago*

if youtube is a convenient option for you all of our videos are currently available on our youtube channels http://www.youtube.com/ignproleague and http://www.youtube.com/ipllol

[–]Hapuman 0 points1 point ago

It's a small thing, but it'd be nice if the video titles listed the players' races. It'd be helpful for those of us who enjoy watching VODs, but aren't intimately familiar with every player out there.

[–]BennettIGN 0 points1 point ago

That'd be a nice touch. We'll see what we can do.

[–]DarthCaesar 1 point2 points ago

I turned on the website and an ad came on that I could neither pause nor mute prefacing a video I did not choose to watch. I also don't like the fact that the website has to be stretched horizontally very far in order to fully display the full UI for the Google Calendar on the right side. The Google Calendar doesn't fit the color scheme and looks out of place as well. Speaking of stretching the website, the jumping and switching of the format at specific intervals is really annoying. A well designed website shouldn't have to do that. The Videos section looks poorly designed as well because of the white text on the black background. Here's an example: http://i.imgur.com/2Mjwm.png . First of all, it is not clear at first that the circles are matches, and second, the circles are off center and that looks really bad. It also seems like the right side of the page is pretty empty - there's only the Google calendar and links to IPL Apps and after that it's just useless whitespace. The pop-up menu under Tournaments at the top of the page also looks bad because I can't find everything. I feel like there are so many different things that IPL runs including the fight club, team leagues, etc, but all that is shown is IPL3 and Team League 2. The page isn't representative of all that IPL does. The orange highlight color of the menu items also seems not to fit the page.

That's about all I can think of; you guys are awesome :)

[–]timestep -1 points0 points ago

sick yo, when's ipl4?

[–]Swampsteel 1 point2 points ago

I love this looking for feedback, it is a great thing in general. First, the auto-play feature is not something that I agree with, give people the option to play or not. Second, in areas like the store, put in a direct link back to the main page just for better accessibility and connection around all areas of the site. Third, I love the schedule scroll down menu, soooo much better than the old site in general! <3

[–]BennettIGN 2 points3 points ago

You'd think linking back to the IPL site would've been obvious to us. Thanks for pointing this out. We'll get that fixed shortly.

[–]Spankfurt 0 points1 point ago

I think on most sites for competitions(IPL) it's hard to find a well defined and simple calendar of events for the month. Something like a good space for each day with the events, who's playing, and at what time until what time (potentially) the games will end

Team Liquid upcoming events does the best job of this, I check it every day. It would be a good format to follow.

[–]BennettIGN 0 points1 point ago

Our lazy embed of a Google Calendar leaves much to be desired.

[–]Play16 0 points1 point ago

That HUGE video that autoplays at the beginning crashed my browser. So yea, I would remove that.

[–]BennettIGN 0 points1 point ago

I apologize. Would you mind sending me a message with your OS and browser information?

[–]3lijah 0 points1 point ago

I love the big-ness of the site. That's so hard to do well. I don't know if the player works for iPad but the design of the site probably does.

I was going to say that the video should start as muted but that was already discussed. It should of course set a cookie for the session that retains the volume whenever it's changed.

My feedback is that I want more information the the current video. It must be live. It would be awesome to have a bar (about 100px tall) under the video that explains the context. It would show a crop of the relevant bracket, the casters, the tournament, and that the stream is live. If it's not live, I would have a countdown to the next stream instead.

This is great that you're asking for feedback. You're involving the community and earning their respect.

[–]BennettIGN 0 points1 point ago

These are really good ideas, 3lijah. Thanks. I especially like presenting context and updates for live content.

[–]Venom0us 0 points1 point ago

Just wanted to say CatsPajamas looks like a handsome young man without his beard LOLZ

[–]BennettIGN 0 points1 point ago

We wrote code that shaved his facial hair.

[–]joedude 0 points1 point ago

I'd like when i watch your streams to not just get an endless loop of 30 second ads followed by two minute intro videos until it lags to the actual stream for about 5 seconds until i get hit by another 30 seconds ad. adblock is my friend on your new site.

[–]BennettIGN 0 points1 point ago

Hmm... Endless loop of ads? That's not good. Would you mind sending us a message with your OS and browser info?

[–]joedude 0 points1 point ago

Windows 7 64 bit, Firefox. yea i dunno it just goes from intro to ad i have to use a 3rd person site

[–]lobstertainment 1 point2 points ago

Couldn't change the quality of the video for some reason however, I can do it on teevox, which leads me to believe that it is something on your end and not twitch.tv/justin.tv.

[–]BennettIGN 0 points1 point ago

Our video player has custom controls that performs the same tasks as the default Twitch player.

[–]enducker 1 point2 points ago

I have the same problem with being unable to change the quality. I'm on a mac and tried Opera, safari, firefox, and chrome.

[–]lobstertainment 0 points1 point ago

Yup, I was on a mac running the Aurora release channel of Firefox.

[–]paulgrock 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for checking the site out. This was definitely a bug. I fixed it this morning and the fix should be out in the next few days. Sorry about that.

[–]lobstertainment 0 points1 point ago

Thanks! I like the new site :)

[–]Maybeice 0 points1 point ago

lots of great advice here, but as a casual viewer enjoyed it thoroughly. design is crisp and highly intuitive. Jobs would've been proud.

[–]PolishxThunder 0 points1 point ago

You guys are doing a great job but can we get replay packs?

[–]iLuVtiffany 0 points1 point ago

More rocks.

[–]-illuminati 0 points1 point ago

When watching a video on full screen, moving the mouse doesn't bring up the control bar. So I can't pause, change the volume or shrink the video without hitting Esc on my keyboard. This is really annoying.

I tested this out in Firefox 9.0.1 on my Windows 7 PC, as well as Firefox 8.0.1 and Safari 5.1.1 on my Macbook Pro.

[–]Asdayasman 0 points1 point ago

My god, threads like this REALLY make me like big companies, and I wish stuff like this was more common.

IGN, you're awesome.

[–]ZeroPageX 0 points1 point ago

I tend to watch stuff like this on my TV which makes browser zooming absolutely vital. Your new video player on the IPL TV page does not play well with Chrome's zoom function. Instead of zooming in making everything bigger, it shrinks the entire video and moves the full screen button away from the rest of the UI.

Also, once I am full screen, there is no UI available and I am forced to use the Escape key to get out of full screen even if I just to change the quality. Since I'm in my living room, I don't always have my keyboard on my lap.

[–]ch41n54w 0 points1 point ago

Looks beautiful! thanks for the update!=]

[–]omgitskae 0 points1 point ago

Is it just me or when viewing the new site does it feel like it's made for my grandmother? Why is everything SO BIG? x.x

To be more specific, the Videos section is way too large, you could use smaller graphics and the game # buttons (1, 2, 3, etc) look kind of silly, they aren't all aligned the same and I think a square might look better with the design.

In addition, I'm not sure I like the size of the stream, is there a reason it's so large? The way I see it is typically if someone wants to see a larger stream, they go fullscreen, so why not just make it like a 360p size and use the extra space on the sides for the links under the stream (interviews, boot camp, fight club, top 5)?

Admittedly I'm a minimalist, but I feel good design should follow the idea that less is more. I feel the elements on the new design are way too big and seeing all of the content requires far too much scrolling. A lot of room could be saved by slightly altering the design and placement of some of the elements without removing any functionality or content.

[–]flick_ch 0 points1 point ago*

To be honest, the design of the site doesn't look very professional, it's somewhat dull and lacks contrast in some areas.

One of my big issues is the Google Calendar, it doesn't take much effort to create your own widget and not use Google's (especially if you're IGN) - just makes it look unprofessional and the site like patchwork. There are jQuery plugins that will help you, you can also easily parse the raw XML into a nice widget that aesthetically integrates better with the site.

Furthermore, there simply isn't enough line height (line-height in your CSS) and enough "air" between your paragraph and lines. Setting a line-height in your body text to ~1.6em and a margin of 20px to your paragraphs really helps. This should also be done in your lists, such as "Headlines" at the bottom. Additionally, there's isn't enough contrast between the background of a content box and the font color. You should either make the font darker or the background lighter.

Also, what's up with that orange when hovering some menu items? It should at least cover the entire element on leave margins on either side.

I could go on. I see what you're trying to do with keeping the design simple and letting the videos take center stage but it just looks very basic and NOT in a good way.

Don't get me wrong, I love IPL and the content it produces, I've just always had issues with the visual presentation of your content, whether it'd be web, video etc.. - inconsistent and gaudy colors, questionable overlay themes and tastes, inconsistent fonts (on your own logo!) etc.. It's a shame because everything else with regards to production is top notch!

I truly hope this feedback helps.

[–]flick_ch 0 points1 point ago*

Here's a quick and dirty mockup I made. I don't understand the reasoning behind the huge app store logos. I also think the front page is far too high, you find yourselves scrolling for a while for a relatively small return in content.

http://i.imgur.com/34vkp.png

[–]BennettIGN 0 points1 point ago

Thanks, flick.

The layout definitely needs work. Overall, we're not very consistent with regards to typography. The problem is worsened by the color choices, which are questionable in hindsight.

You will find a lot of people agree with you about the awkwardness of the main menu. I imagine that we'll end up scrapping it and starting over.

Your critique was tremendously helpful. We'll rethink some of our choices and work on improvements.

There are some great ideas in your mockup below. The stronger grid composition supports the featured content in a better way than what we put together. May we reach out to you once we've put together some revised comps?

I'm glad you found it helpful - I do apologize if I was a little blunt in my original post :)

I'd love to help out in the future, so don't hesitate. FYI, I live in SF :)

Flick_ch - Thanks for the feedback. Like Bennett said we've definitely got some room to improve our design and we'll take your feedback/mockup into consideration. Changing the google calendar is something that is near the top of the list of things to fix.

The one thing I would like is a way to view the current tournament/season standings, and have it easy to find and access.

Here is an issue with the IPL site I was getting annoyed with today. It may just be a bug, as the games seemed to be synced correctly at first but then things got wonky.

Warning, this link contains Fight Club jakji versus nerchio spoilers.

You will notice that the game I have selected at the bottom is not the game which is playing at the top. When you want to watch the games in order to get the full suspense of the series playing out, it can be pretty frustrating when you click the next game and instead of showing what you expect it plays three games down the line and ruins the results of all of the games in between for you.

Thanks for the heads up, rt. That's absolutely unacceptable. I'll make sure that this problem is fixed ASAP.

Just speaking from a designer's point of view - please hire a professional to rework your layout / typo (also font rendering might be nice, typeface/cufón).

[–]Avenger88 -1 points0 points ago

My suggestion is that you keep doing things close to perfection. Amazing content, and thank you for keeping in touch with the community.

[–]Falconhaxx -1 points0 points ago

but how we can make it better for you? Looking for feedback!

Nah, I'm satisfied.

While i love the site and the support ipl is giving the esports communities, i think you guys need to do a better job of grouping events and information together. Like when i click on "Tournaments -> IPL3", how come the videos shown underneath the IPL3 video are the same shown as on the front page? Why not links to content specific to IPL3, like top plays, or maybe finalist matches? I would much prefer to see something like a tournament layout with the vod links beside them so i can follow a certain players progression and not have to dig through a long list of vods as it is now through ipltv.

I guess what im saying is, when i follow the links to tournament pages, those pages should display more content realvent to those tournaments and make it easier to find. Right now it doesnt. I find for me to find information or the content i want, its buried under too many things

edit for a second comment - the IPLTV - Shows list can be confusing. When you click on it, it seems to show the newest episode in the group (ie - ipl3 shows whitera vs idra) which i think can be a bit confusing and esepicaly with the amount of content IPL is producing, i think this space would be better server to give short explanations of what the content is. IE at first i didnt know that clicking on the whitera vs idra link would lead to the rest of the ipl3 matches and spent a bit of time trying to find them. So maybe instead have a more prominent graphic (just a large IPL3, the current graphic is kinda small and unreadable at 1920x1200), and the "Description" could be IPL's 3rd tournament played live in "wherever it was". Too further this argument, if someone new came to the site, what to them is the difference between "Team Arena" and "Team Arena Challenge" if they havent seen them befor? I think a small description could help this

vods

Having the schedule is a god send and as such maybe you should make it looks a little fancier but my main plea would be to be able to view the schedule in your choice of timezone! For example, having tabs at the top of the schedule to switch it to PST, GMT, CET, KST, EDT etc. The site looks great though, love the font!

[–]paulgrock 1 point2 points ago

This is a great idea. I will add it to the list of things to do. Thanks Primo.

I thought they were releasing a new cleaner - cleaning at 100% efficiency :(

More Lani!

[–]heorlic 0 points1 point ago

I like it, except this.

[–]Zevee 0 points1 point ago

You could just put pictures of Lani everywhere and it would be the best place on earth and my new frontpage.

Bug Found: It appears that your function that handles window resizing is broken. If I manually adjust my Chrome (16.x) browser's window, the stream will lock up and force the entire browser to crash. I found the same bug when testing Teevox 2.0.

url in question

[–]MiGnH 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for letting us know, we will look into this. It could be an issue with the justin.tv player since it is also present in Teevox. I have not been able to reproduce the issue on my system on chrome. what operating system are you using?

[–]pjb0404 1 point2 points ago

Windows 7 - 64 Bit

Chrome is 16.0.912.77 m

Jake was able to fix this on the fly as I reported it to him, so I'm not sure if it is with the JTV player? (He wouldn't have been able to fix it if it was right? JTV would have had to fix it)

I hit the site and immediately I start to grab the top left corner (any corner, doesn't matter) and start adjusting the size of the browser. It then locks up here you can see the still and then Flash crashes

[–]MiGnH 0 points1 point ago

Thanks, I will do my best to get this fixed

[–]BennettIGN 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, this resize bug is elusive.

[–]isamura -2 points-1 points ago

Autoplaying videos is terrible UI in general. Here is no exception.

[–]Roxor99 -1 points0 points ago

No option to mute ads!

[–]odif -3 points-2 points ago

put Naomi and Jessica on the front page.

[–]BennettIGN 1 point2 points ago

As if CatsPajamas and Doa aren't enough for you.
