At least the Rangers got Andrus and Feliz for Tex. They are still paying part of Arod's salary.

[–]dallen 19 points20 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This was the last season for that. When Feliz caught Arod looking last night it completed Arod's final season on the Rangers payroll.

It isn't really all that simple. What they were obligated to pay for with his original salary has been completed. There is the deferred payments, but he is just one of many creditors the Rangers had. So I guess in a sense that is correct, but not as a normal contract player. I mean they still owed Mickey Tettleton money, he has been long gone....

[–]NYCubsFan 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

And I believe the Mets will be paying Bobby Bonilla until 2035 because of deferments, which will total about $30 million. All to not pay him $5.9 million back in 2000.

[–]The_Texican 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

yea.... but that was still a win for the mets :P

[–]NYCubsFan 2 points3 points ago

Do you mean a win by their standards of player moves, or because fans didn't have to endure his downward spiral for another year? Either way it made me laugh.

Are they clones? They look exactly the same.

[–]raldi 1 point2 points ago

They are still paying part of Arod's salary.

I thought they were freed from that when he opted out of his contract after the 2007 season.

Do you think Scott Boras is still rolling around in money after 2 of his clients utterly choked in the postseason?

I'm gonna chime in with: Did you see that outfield assist Werth had to kill Cody Ross? Fucking sweet. My favorite play in baseball.

Huge Phils fan who watches 100+ games a season; that's the part of his game I think I'm going to miss the most. He has an absolute cannon.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Indians fan here, same thing. I'm going to mis Shin-Soo Choo, absolute lasers from right. Also a Scott Boras client.

I'm beginning to think Boras was a Roberto Clemente fan, and hunts down good-hitting right fielders with huge arms, because they can make so much money.

[–]Darko33 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No. 2 on the things about Werth I'll miss is his ability to wear pitchers down. Don't know how the numbers shook out this season, but last year he led the majors in pitches per plate appearance.

...didn't realize Choo had that same type of arm though. Guys like that are so much fun to watch.

[–]wryknow 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

So are we all just assuming that Boras is going to woosh these guys away from their teams for the yankees/highest bidder?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah man, the dude was a pitcher, got Tommy John surgery, and I've seen him just nail guys at third, even kill bloop singles, throwing the guy out at first. Pretty much he's the man.

[–]eking85 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Where is Choo-Choo train going? I heard he might have to go back to serve in the army but thought that was rumors.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Nowhere yet, I heard he found a way around the whole military service thing. Don't ask how, but I heard it somewhere. Hopefully he stays with the Indians forever or until he's no longer the boss.

He had a .300 batting average, 50 home runs a season, and 400 RBIs in his 3 years on the Rangers. I don't know how much more one man could do to help get a team to the world series. The rest of the team are the ones who sucked.

[–]buakaw 11 points12 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, I don't get why Ranger's fans are so bitter. It's not like A-rod demanded to get traded. It was the Rangers who wanted to trade him because they couldn't afford to keep paying his ridiculous contract which by the way was their fault. No one forced them to overpay.

[–]pbtifo 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I don't get why Ranger's fans are so bitter

Because he's an asshole.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

He was an asshole the second the rangers traded him and wasnt on the Rangers anymore. Johnny Damon, Matsui, and Giambi get applauded when they come back to Yankee stadium because people realize the contributions they made to the team.

[–]MightyMinneapolis 13 points14 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It was very satisfying to watch him K looking, to end the game. But you know what sucks?

This guy, despite being an admitted/caught PED user, is STILL a millionaire (200x over) that has a ring with the Yanks already.

That fucker still wins.

[–]seeker135 22 points23 points ago

[–]DirtyBinLV 5 points6 points ago*

I'm not at all a fan of A-Rod's, but that's what every athlete says to justify their gigantic contracts. The Rangers management were dumbasses for giving him that much money. A-Rod's 3 seasons in Texas were very good, with him batting .318, .300, and .298, winning gold gloves all 3 years and the MVP once. He's only had 2 seasons since that were in the same category. A-Rod's stats link

[–]Clsjajll 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Good stat research. If you look carefully in the photos, you can see the needle sticking out of his ass during those years, too!

[–]DirtyBinLV 6 points7 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That may be part of what makes A-Rod a jerk, but it's irrelevant to the point the OP is trying to make. The Rangers paid him to be one of the top players in the league, and it's almost impossible to argue that he wasn't.

[–]meltedlaundry 10 points11 points ago

A-Roid is a man of his word.

[–]tayto 2 points3 points ago

I recall plenty of Rangers fans claiming the same thing. At least they wised up a decade-plus later.

[–]Kerafyrm 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This title would be much more effective if A-Rod didn't get a World Series ring last year...

[–]Tallon 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

What does that have to do with the Rangers?

[–]legalpotato 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

it means that the title is still clever, but if Rangers' fans want to use this to gloat over, they're a little premature. that being said, I'd still be pretty damn happy if I was a Rangers fan now. congrats.

[–]shantm79 0 points1 point ago

You're right... we will be fine. We'll win more and more WS while your franchise toils in anonymity. Yankees are bigger than baseball and your team needs them to survive.

Face it, you're just jealous.

didnt they only get Alfonso Soriano from the A-Rod trade? neither of them helped the Rangers in any way. the trades that brought the Rangers to the WS are:the Carlos Lee trade that also brought Nelson Cruz, the Mark Teixeira trade that brought Elvis Andrus, Neftali Feliz, and Matt Harrison, the Eric Gagne trade that brought David Murphy, the Edison Volquez trade that brought Josh Hamilton, the Bengie Molina trade, and the most criticized trade of 2010, for Cliff Lee. also the Vladimir Guerrero signing, the fact that Kinsler is actually healthy this late in the season, and that Wilson, Lewis, and Hunter all put up 10+ wins in their first season as full-time starters. A LOT of things had to fall into place for the Rangers to be where they are now, but signing/trading A-Rod, and trading Soriano, didnt have anything to do with it. Jon Daniels did two of the dumbest trades ever (John Danks, Adrian Gonzalez) but he managed to work his way around it. over all, congrats to the Rangers.

and im a Mets fan if that makes a difference about my rant.

Love the fact that a bankrupt team destroyed the Yankees.

Awesome postseason so far. It'll get even better when SF beats the Phils tonight.

[–]shantm79 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Don't worry, even if the Rangers win the WS this year, the Yankees will reload and come back stronger. The Rangers will go back to being irrelevant.

[–]Iago78 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Oh totally agree. But that's what's great about baseball. You never can tell when the stars might align for an unlikely team.

The fact that there are "likely" teams (like the Yanks, Phils, etc) makes the whole thing possible.

I hope they never have a salary cap. Salary cap ruined football.

[–]shantm79 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Their should be a salary minimum. Teams should not pocket the money given to them through the luxury tax and revenue sharing.

[–]phukka 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yea, the Yankees will just try to buy whatever team wins the WS and see if they can go back.

[–]shantm79 0 points1 point ago

"Buy whatever team"? I've heard some dumb things from Ranger fans, but that tops them all.

[–]phukka 2 points3 points ago

Not a Rangers fan. I'm glad the Rangers won, though.

[–]executor67 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

ROFL? Yeah bro, because the yankees don't go out every year and try to buy the entire starting lineup of the allstar team. Yankee fans are the worst of any professional club in any sport.

[–]shantm79 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Who did they buy for 2010? Marcus Thames? Nick Johnson?
2009 - AJ, CC and Tex. OK - I'll give you that 2008 - Morgan Ensberg, LaTroy Hawkins, Darrel Rasner? Not very exciting 2007 - Pettitte, Kei Igawa, Jeff Nelson

(Note: I did not mention players who were on the team the previous season)

So in the past 4 off seasons, only in one off season they made a huge splash in Free Agency. But consider this (it might be over your head, so I can go slower if you want), they were opening up a new stadium (so were their territorial rivals, the Mets) and needed to increase their draw... especially after missing the playoffs the previous year.

So please do some basic research before spouting off. You're probably not capable, so I understand.

They are the most successful team in the world for a reason... and you wish your team was too!

[–]shampstyle 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

oh please. if you have the money why not spend it? to the rich go the spoils. don't take out your frustration on the fact that your team probably sucks on yankee fans. nothing worse than a fan that hates another team's fans more than the actual team, pretty pathetic actually.

For all the times he gave signals to the other team in hopes that they would do the same, this hopefully makes up for it. And I really wouldn't put it passed A-Rod if he did do something on purpose to help out the Rangers this series.
