Serbia is the only team with 23 players from 23 different clubs.

The serbian coach Radomir Antić has been manager of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

yet he was outsmarted in this game. Serbian long ball tactics were quite stupid.

Great game, had to watch without sound but still one of the most entertaining so far. Ghana were well worth the win, so unlucky not to be 2 up right at the end there.

I think we'd like our chances more over Ghana than Serbia.. although a draw would be best, this is also fine

[–]Tigreshseldon10 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Both Ghana and Serbia will lose against Germany. So now, Ghana has 3 points, Serbia 0, and both will be looking for those 3 magic points that advances them in Australia.

Ghana only needs a tie, and you'll find that defeating a highly defensive, fast and strong African side like Ghana is a nightmare. Just ask Mexico! So, let's assume that you indeed tie agains Ghana.

Now, Ghana has 4 points, you have one, Germany 9 and Serbia 0. But you play Serbia. The last 3 points of the group are between Serbia and yourself. To advance, you will have to defeat Serbia by more than two goals. (Also, depending on the scoreline between Germany and Ghana, and between yourselves and Germany)... Do you really think that you'll be the ones advancing?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Thats assume Germany get 3 points from Australia... No doubt they are the better side, but they are slow-starters in World Cups, so it is possible we can hold them to a 0-0 or even 1-1 draw.

If Ghana come to defend and it looks like it's going to be 0-0 I would think that would probably increase our chances of winning. Tim Cahill is good for 1 goal every game, all we need to do is shut them out and he'll score with the one shot he gets. It's guaranteed. The problem is our defence is so slow it could be 5-0 by the time he gets the chance.

Seriously though, a close game against anyone suits us I reckon, that is why we have as good a chance as Ghana and Serbia to progress IMO. if it's quick and open we're screwed but those 2 both play our game. There is not much chance Germany will qualify with 9 points, they look good but in this group I don't think it's going to happen. At least one of us will grab points off them, I don't especially think it will be us but if our midfield can make life difficult for them and keep possession well anything can happen.

[–]styxwade 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Tim Cahill is good for 1 goal every game.

If that were true it would make him the best striker in the world, and indeed the history of the game, by a considerable distance.

And the string of great refereeing continues. That's an impressive call to make late in the game with so much on the line, and from such a long distance away. Spot on though.

In the algeria vs. slovenia game the ref missed one foul that should have caused a penalty (though it was nearly impossible to see from his perspective).

Good thing it didn't matter in the end, but that's it so far. Really good refs overall.

I thought there were two balls which should have been free kicks for Ghana, but were instead free kicks for Serbia. Aside from ticky-tacky stuff like that, the officiating has been very, very good. The Japanese crew seems the most strict so far.

Because France's team is mainly composed of black players, and (I might be wrong) their jersey is the same color. :p

[–]Benficanullaresnata 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

France's main jersey is [Blue and white](http://www.google.pt/images?client=ubuntu&channel=cs&q=france's+jersey&qscrl=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=lQAVTJ_hOpLp4gbH1bi0DA&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CCsQsAQwAA) (they are called Les Bleus, the blues), but their secondary jersey is all white. And yes, that was the reason: France's team is comprised mostly of black players and they played in white just like Ghana.

Yup. Serbia has been clueless in attack. Hopeful longballs one after another, ridiculous throughballs that never look like reaching their man, crossfield passes with too much weight. On a brighter note their set pieces have been decent. As a Serb 'fan', I hope they step it up soon ... Otherwise I see Ghana leaving with the 3 pts.

[–]Liverpooldisbelief 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The thing I enjoyed most about that first half was Serbia's set piece creativity. Two completely different strategies, and they threatened with both of them. Just a tiny bit lacking in execution.

Indeed. Both teams look like they're playing to win, as opposed to Slovenia and Algeria, who looked like they couldn't have cared less. It helps that the level of talent in this game is substantially better too.

[–]Manchester Unitedrmfhr116 4 points5 points ago

I have a feeling the Serbs are going to play very rough and very dirty. It's going to get plenty of fouls and some injury. Slavs aren't good at sportsmanship, we get riled up waaaay too easily.

[–]UnnamedPlayer 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They didn't really play that rough but the first red card of the match goes to them.

[–]Manchester Unitedrmfhr116 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I rather thought they would. I've heard stories about how violent they could be on the pitch, but that was against Bosnia, so figures.

I just assume Serbs, Russians, and Ukrainians are a bit more contact-oriented and do some underhanded things. I'm Russian, and I've watched plenty of my team play to make that decision...but yeah. That's just what I think.
