Awesome work everyone! Y'all make this awesome event possible. Big thanks from reddit HQ to baconbiscuits, someguyfromcanada, weffey for all your hard work! Couldn't have done it without your help.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

You're an admin? I'm still roughly new to reddit and still working out how redditgifts operates, let alone reddit...well, you are very welcome, and I hope to keep being part of this community. It has, so far, been entirely my pleasure, and I think it was a brilliant thing to invent, on the part of whomever invented it.

[–]kimwim42 1 point2 points ago

That would be kickme444

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

That was my impression and understanding. Thanks for the confirmation.

[–]kn0thing[α] 47 points48 points ago

Hurray! Thank you, everyone. Redditgifts is one of the many things that makes reddit such a marvelous & special community -- you all are responsible for bringing such awesomeness to fruition.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

It really has made my fall.

oh, lol, I mean this season.

[–]kickme444[S] 1 point2 points ago

we like having you ... stick around!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Thank you. I really do appreciate that. It's fun, challenging and educational. What's not to like? :-)

[–]weffey[M] 39 points40 points ago

Thanks! The first Secret Santa in 2009 was actually what turned me from lurker to an active redditor.

Although, I think a bigger thanks needs to go to Kickme444 and 5days for organizing everything and dealing with all the behind the scenes stuff that the community never sees nor hears!

[–]vinnl 5 points6 points ago

And a big thanks to those two too, the whole process couldn't have been smoother!

(And now I'm replying to weffey directly: I've thanked you and the others in a separate comment, but I'll do it again: you've done a great job, I kept coming across your name in the comments :)

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points ago

Yep.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I've bothered redditgifts several times with questions, and 5days is always there to respond in a reasonable amount of time (like, within a few days during this rush season), and very clearly telling me what I needed to know, and always with an extra added fillip of kindness.

5days is apparently the main go-to person far as redditgifts communications goes, but I am sure that kickme444 has worked just as hard where he or she is, in the matrix of redditgifts.

And as for you, weffey...thanks for being here on the front, thanks for listening, thanks for answering the same stuff over and over again.

You are a kind person.

Miep

[–]spider_monkey 1 point2 points ago

Just wanted to chime in and say thank you for all you do, and that goes for all the Organizers and Moderators of SecretSanta. I have enjoyed and hope to continue enjoy for years to come.

[–]DougisonFire 13 points14 points ago

A++ Will participate again

[–]sixstringer420 8 points9 points ago

This will probably get buried in the comments, but couldn't we set something up where secretsantas could volunteer to give a gift to a needy family in addition to their secret match? Pick one family, or one needy charity, and give me the option to spend five more bucks.

My five bucks don't mean nothing...

But imagine the power of five bucks from each of us...whether toy, food, and/or cash, and what a difference that could make.

Now, that would make the news.

[–]rram 10 points11 points ago

Bravo everyone!

[–]goschumi1986 9 points10 points ago

HIP HIP HOORAY! (Oh, I still get to be a rematch for someone, do I? Preferably 3 - I'm doing extra shifts at work so I can afford extra gifts for the shafted!)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Go to your redditgifts account and sign up for rematches. I have signed up for five so far. I have two confirmed and I'm working on getting them stuff. One is a really cool woman in Canada and another is cool guy in Europe. I'm in the States, I'll be paying a little extra money for the postage, but that is just fine!

My next three rematches will be in the USA, probably, though it's not quite volunteered. Redditgifts wants to be worldwide, but I think most of us are likely in the USA. They do try to be fair with the rematches.

It does cost to send gifts internationally and also there are strictures for what you can send from one country to another.

[–]Noressa 7 points8 points ago

Huzzah!

[–]Satoshi_Tajiri 6 points7 points ago

I had a great exchange, now i want to give more away! Great job guys/gals!

[–]joej 5 points6 points ago

Thanks -- this has been a fun experience (sending, and a rematch sending, no gift yet but I have faith I'll receive).

GREAT way to meet a fellow redditor.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I'm always sorry to hear about this, and I'm relatively new here.

It is indeed a great way to meet a fellow redditor.

You might well not receive a gift, if there are more victims of Santa Fails than there are rematch commitments.

If I wanted to ask redditgifts to change just one thing, it would be to set something up where the ungifted could have their own gift party, with an option to chip in for rematchers, rematchers being people who offer to give a gift to the ungifted.

We could do it for Valentine's Day. Redditgifts could recognize the good Santas who wound up ungifted, and hook everyone up anonymously with each other, and then those of us confirmed Santas could also offer to "regift" to the Valentines' Day Santa exchange.

I would be just so in to that. I totally hate Valentine's Day, because it is so ungenerous and so about leaving people out. This would be a way of bringing people more back in and, wow, love!

It could be like some kind of ForeverAlone Valentine's Day plus lots of other stuff.

Do we need that? We might, we might.

[–]facetiously 3 points4 points ago

All of this. Also...

Somehow, as busy as she has been weffey found the time and awesomeness to send some lucky Redditors (myself included) a Christmas card and a Reddit sticker.

For some reason that small yet powerful act has defined Secret Santa 2011 for me. This is the spirit of RedditGifts at its finest.

[–]weffey 4 points5 points ago

Final count was 148 I think. Isn't that why Americans get a 4 day weekend near the end of November to get all the Christmas stuff done?

[–]facetiously 5 points6 points ago

No, you're thinking of Thanksgiving. We have those four days so we can stuff our pie holes with, well PIE and stuff.

Just in case we're not obese yet.

[–]BaconBiscuits[M] 2 points3 points ago

Hehe! Woo! Thanks guys c: although the real heroes here are kickme444 and 5days whom without none of this would happen. I love this community dearly and I'm honored to be so involved.

[–]radiojen 3 points4 points ago

I honestly had never heard of reddit until my friend Vikki sent me an invitation to get involved in the gift swap. I had SO MUCH FUN! My Secret Santa was generous and the person who received my gift was a gracious receiver. The only thing I am sad to report is the person who got me into this, Vikki, didn't receive a gift from her Secret Santa.

This definitely ran like a well-oiled machine and I'm very grateful to each of the people who helped in making it seem so effortless!

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

That is good to hear. Still some kinks in the works, and likely will always be.

But the bigger we get Secret Santa, the easier it will be to smooth out any problems and help anyone who did not get gifted, to be gifted by another one of us.

[–]Skull-Leader 2 points3 points ago

Great job as always. Now the BIG question - How many more Re-Matchers are needed this year?

[–]kickme444[S] 4 points5 points ago

ALL the rematchers are needed

:)

[–]Skull-Leader 2 points3 points ago

Waiting for a new giftee then

[–]biquetra 4 points5 points ago

As someone who suspects shafting, thank you :-)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

well, that's the way!

[–]laidymondegreen 2 points3 points ago

Thanks to all of you. I had so much fun with picking out my gifts and waiting to see if the other person liked them that I never even noticed not receiving my own gifts. But, my SS pinky promised that they were coming, so I guess I shall wait.

Thanks, though, for working so hard on something so wonderful. It's really becoming one of my favorite holiday traditions.

[–]hired_goon 1 point2 points ago

I thoroughly enjoyed participating this year and will definietly take part next year.

I had my fingers crossed that the person who got my name was a craftsperson of some sort that could hand make me something and I ended up getting an artist who made me a super cool munny!! FUCKING SCORE!!

[–]vactuna 1 point2 points ago

:D I was just as excited to see that you wanted a crafty gift, believe me! I've never painted a Munny before and wasn't really sure what they're supposed to look like, but I figured I'd do my own thing so at least it would be unique... I'm so glad you're happy with it, merry Christmas! (Sorry it was a bit late, though, I couldn't work on it until my finals were over)

[–]hired_goon 1 point2 points ago

Munnys can be a bit of a challenge to paint, what with their bulbous and 3 dimensional shape, especially if you are used to plainting flat surfaces. I have one that I have ruined twice already.

The cool thing about them is that you can pretty much do whatever, there is no set in stone way they have to look. Coincidentally, I like space so the space theme was super appropriate!

if you go the the Kidrobot forum at kidrobot.com (or even the kidrobot facebook page) they have a lot of examples of ones that people have made, some get pretty out there. I saw one that somebody sculpted it's head to be a bowl and filled it with artifical water and noodles. crazy.

[–]roflbbq 1 point2 points ago

Huzzah!

[–]xiaodown 1 point2 points ago

Awesome job! Can we get a commitment for you SS mods and executives to come back whenever you can tabulate all the data, and give us updates / statistics / a window inside your heads as to SS2k11?

[–]michann00 2 points3 points ago

Thank you for doing this - it was wonderful to participate this year. My whole family had fun with it as well. Also, thank you to kickme444 and 5days for all that you do.

[–]SCVanguard 2 points3 points ago

I have a quick question...

I received confirmation that my gift shipped the 12th but I haven't received it just yet. I am pretty sure its international seeing as how long it has been...but at what point should I sign up for rematching?

[–]weffey 0 points1 point ago

25 days after it was marked shipped, click on "no gift" and follow the onscreen directions.

[–]ContentWithOurDecay 2 points3 points ago

Thank you for all your hard work, sorry for the haters you have to put up with!

[–]MrEctions 1 point2 points ago

Great job by the mods this year. You guys make this all happen, three cheers!

[–]chairmanlmao 1 point2 points ago

golf clap

[–]gohugatree 1 point2 points ago

Harumble! Cheers to you all!

[–]soymE 1 point2 points ago

First time experience with redditgifts, but it will not be my last. This an awesome program.

[–]senor_fuego 1 point2 points ago

Suggestion for next year. After we submit our tracking info, can we poll ups, FedEx, et al for a delivery cert? My giftee signed for his gifts but never acknowledged receipt.

[–]DDayDawg 1 point2 points ago

Thank you all for your hard work! Awesome job this year.

[–]scamperly 1 point2 points ago

I am still waiting on my gift, but it will be a pleasant post christmas surprise when it does arrive!

[–]kibitzor 1 point2 points ago

Booo

I have to wait 359 days for Christmas again.

[–]weffey 3 points4 points ago

Pssssst Arbitrary Day is in June :D

[–]Lebal 1 point2 points ago

Woohoo! I love you all and am grateful for your contributions!

[–]ALGUIENoALGO 0 points1 point ago

i'm still dont have my gift but....

good job

[–]peacecorn 1 point2 points ago

I've had oodles of fun with the various Secret Santa Exchanges this year and I appreciate all you guys and gals do to make it happen!

Cheers!

[–]greatlin 1 point2 points ago

thanks everyone! this was my first exchange and it went awesome- love the set up of rematching and am excitedly getting a gift together for a shafted aussie- the checks and balances you guys have in place are killer! thanks for all your hard work!

[–]MasterCharles 1 point2 points ago

Cheers to the entire Secret Santa crew. Even though my match didn't send a gift, this is still one of my favorite things about Reddit.

[–]tackmer 1 point2 points ago

Thank you so much! This was my first SS and it went so well!

[–]SJJ1960 1 point2 points ago

You guys rock :)

[–]vinnl 1 point2 points ago

You are all so seriously fantastic, amazing job, it was A LOT of fun participating for this first time for me this year, and I was amazed by the amount of work you guys put into it.

[–]ericb45696 1 point2 points ago

/clap

[–]GallifreyKangaroo 1 point2 points ago

Thanks everybody! It was my first time and I had lots of fun!

[–]elgreco927 1 point2 points ago

Huzzah! You guys are awesome, thank you! This is my first year participating, and it was loads of fun. I signed up for 2 rematches just to keep the party going! :-)

[–]Pinkbeaver 1 point2 points ago

Thanks guys! I am new to the gift exchange circuit and relatively new to reddit; I have been lurking a while but come out of my shell in the past few months, in no small part becuase of this subreddit. This is truly a great project and you all deserve the biggest round of applause possible. I cannot wait until next year. I have already recruited three new people who are going to participate next year and who are now redditors.

[–]Ryugi 1 point2 points ago

I love this and the helpers so much for this existing! XD I have a lovely, irreplaceable gift and some fun things to dork around with. It was really inspiring and I want to be a helper next year to in order to help this project go well next year!

[–]Weeperblast 0 points1 point ago

Who do I complain to if I never got a gift?

[–]kickme444[S] 2 points3 points ago

Weffey

[–]weffey 4 points5 points ago

... is this where I pass the buck to another mod?

[–]BaconBiscuits 0 points1 point ago

Dibs not me!

[–]ScopeOfTheFatedSky 1 point2 points ago

Weffey is seriously the bomb. Did a little Christmas card exchange with her and not only did she send a beautiful card, she sent a reddit sticker too!

[–]vingt-deux 1 point2 points ago

This was my first Secret Santa on reddit, and it won't be the last.

Loved the experience so much!

[–]Silence258 0 points1 point ago

Is the Reddit Secret Santa a yearly thing? If it is I might participate next year so that I can get at least one thing for Christmas.

[–]weffey 0 points1 point ago

Yes, there is also Arbitrary Day in June, as well as subreddit exchanges throughout the year.

[–]shmacky 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for everything you guys!

[–]vampire_kitty 1 point2 points ago

Thank you so much to the entire Secret Santa team for making my first experience within it quite fun and positive. I'm definitely looking forward to future exchanges as a result! :D

[–]_Raptor_ 1 point2 points ago

Just wanna say that it took me all day to finally read 'applause' and not 'applesauce'. Seriously all day made me think of a giant pot of applesauce.

[–]CaptJordi 1 point2 points ago

glad I'm not the only one.... I hadnt been on reddit for a few days so I just kind of figured I missed a joke somewhere!

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]kickme444[S] 0 points1 point ago

what are you talking about? Your gift was marked shipped like 7 days ago or something.

[–]CornFedHonky 0 points1 point ago

Yeah the person messaged me and said it should have been delivered over a week ago, and then hasn't responded to any other messages.

[–]X1R0N 0 points1 point ago

Good job guys!

[–]o0tana0o 0 points1 point ago

hooraaaaay!!!!

[–]Yuforic 0 points1 point ago

I'm still waiting on my gift (2 weeks after it was marked shipped), but I still love the whole concept and definitely going to do it again next year. Hopefully my next match will actually have something to stalk though!

[–]gwink3 1 point2 points ago

I don't know if kickme444 will see this, but if you do please show your spouse. Also, other mods and helpers I hope you see this.

Thank you for Reddit Secret Santa, reddit gifts, and the other exchanges. I have participated in 7 exchanges through y'all. My week is made every single time a new exchange is announced. I look forward to getting to know my person and selecting the perfect gift for them. Every exchange presents a new challenge, and I love it. Text alone cannot express how grateful I am for this subreddit and community. Y'all bring joy to my life, and every single time a new exchange happens my roommate knows because of how excited I am about it. Then she has to sit through me babbling on about all the gift ideas buzzing around. Most importantly, because of y'all I picked up painting. I discovered a new hobby that will bring me joy for years to come.

Cheers! Keep up the good work, I can't wait for the next exchange, and thank you.

[–]kickme444[S] 1 point2 points ago

I SEE EVERYTHING!

and thanks :)

[–]showurnuts 1 point2 points ago

In contrast, this has been my first-ever exchange through redditgifts. And despite some of the "newbies" ultimately ending up as bad santas, I'm glad you guys gave the rest of us new redditors a chance to participate. It brought me out from lurker status, so to speak.

My SS was so nice and thoughtful, I love my gifts. My giftee is just now posting pictures, filling my heart with the fuzzies. I've just recently ordered some gifts for the 'rematchee' I got. Overall, what a great experience thanks to you guys!

As long as money and time allow it, I hope to participate in future exchanges!! Thanks again for all you do!

[–]hrdchrgr 0 points1 point ago

Quick question: I live in a rural area so shipping takes a little longer and I know my gift is coming after being contacted by my ss. Redditgifts keeps emailing me to confirm arrival and I don't want the website to think I'm being lazy or that it's not coming. Is there anyway I can confirm without receiving it yet so it doesn't count as a missed gift?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago*

I haven't been on reddit for a few days because I ran into some weird stuff while posting and somebody told me my reddit account had been deleted and I believed him and got horribly depressed. This is out of the scope of this conversation but I may be addressing him on F5U12 shortly... :-)

Thanks for posting this, kickme444. Yeah, you folks rock, and about 5days? Are you all mods and 5days an admin? I just got an opportunity via redditgifts.com to give 5days some props and was only too happy to do so. I don't know what gender 5days is, but s/he is a great communicator who has answered all of my various questions I've emailed to redditgifts. I could not ask for better or more friendly help.

I'm glad to hear that the people who are running this thing are getting paid to do so, now. It's dangerous when a volunteer operation gets too big and is too dependent upon volunteer management.

Successful volunteer managers tend to be rich. The rest of us aren't, and we need some pay for our time. Kudos to whomever made this decision.

Yay, us! I have so far contributed one unauthorized (though very much appreciated) rematch, another rematch for a guy who got his gift stolen in the exchange prior to this one; and also sent a gift within this Secret Santa matching to a guy in Europe who liked it quite a bit.

I now have gifts on order for my two new rematches, both of whom I've gotten in touch with via the anonymous function offered at redditgifts.com.

I have also offered three more rematches, domestic this time (within the USA). I do understand that it's not a given that my rematches will be in the USA, because the mods and admins here try so hard to be fair to everyone, all over the world, and I think most of us are in the USA, so it's a numbers thing.

I have also more or less worked out how redditgifts works, and I hope to keep on working here (as a volunteer) in the future, because I really like this sort of thing. It helps to mix my proclivities for gifting and communication in a way that really works for me.

Thank you, redditgifts!

[–]kimwim42 1 point2 points ago

5days and kickme444 are married. 5days is a lady, and kickme444 is a gentleman.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Oh, well...aww. Well...wow.

Thanks for that. Sometimes the world lets great stuff happen.

[–]roxtafari 1 point2 points ago

Thank you all, it's a wonderful thing that you have done.

[–]mushpuppy -1 points0 points ago

In particular I'd like to thank Weffey, who helped me figure out why I wasn't getting my badge.

As I've posted elsewhere, this was a great experience for me. Thank you everyone!

Oh and you know, everyone who participated should get a Guinness world record badge too!

[–]ProudNativeTexan 0 points1 point ago

I came here to post the exact same thing! I would love to see a badge for participating in the world record. I know we have the SS2011 badge - but a world record badge on top of that would be awesome. Might even induce others to join next time!

Good job everybody!!

[–]ohhoe 0 points1 point ago

What was the verdict, I don't have a 2011 SS badge either. :)

[–]mushpuppy 0 points1 point ago

You have to click every button. For me, I didn't save shipping information. I had entered it, but not saved it.

[–]ohhoe 0 points1 point ago

hmmm. I did, and my giftee confirmed received and posted pictures. I even already sent my rematch a gift today as well.

[–]mushpuppy 0 points1 point ago*

What I wound up doing was going back and redoing every single step. I also thought I had done everything I was supposed to on the shipping page--until I realized I hadn't. My giftee had done his steps too.

So maybe just redo the process. Step by step.

The badge gets added automatically.

[–]ohhoe 0 points1 point ago

Thanks!

[–]mushpuppy 0 points1 point ago

Here's the thread that included Weffey's instructions.

It is possible to enter the shipping info, promise you shipped, leave the page and the info remains, and not have saved it. Or maybe you're making another equally tiny mistake.

I don't know if we get a rematch badge.

[–]ohhoe 0 points1 point ago

aha.

I never got a gift. I just got rematched with someone. Problem solved! Thanks so much. :D

[–]mushpuppy 0 points1 point ago

That sucks! You should've gotten the badge if you sent one out. No fair at all.

[–]Z0bie -2 points-1 points ago

I know I'm late to the party but I still hope you see this. Don't get me wrong, I love secret santa and will always sign up, but I think it may have gotten too big with all the advertising and a lot of people signed up and forgot about it or lost interest.
