I think the moderator asked him not to (a) whine (b) self-post offtopic and (c) if he was going to give advice and make a claim about said sex offender, back it up with a source so he didn't disrupt the flow of discourse.

From this screenshot, he actually threatened to ban the OP because she hasn't posted proof of having this sex offender live near her and from the wording of his comment, he believed the post was full of lies. She may not have wanted to do it for anonymity reasons both for herself, her family and this sex offender. Sure you can post it semi-anonymously to a moderator but thats beside the point.

And its not like disclosing this info was really necessary, its not a written rule on this subreddit. If it was a troll which I don't believe then the worst that people could have done was given this person genuine advice which they didn't need and some comment karma.

According to the screenshot evidence, he didn't actually explicitly ask him not to do (a) or (b), he just swung his banhammer the moment the OP tried to call him out for his threat and used (a) and (b) as an excuse.

Yes, it was an offtopic post as this subreddit is for relationship advice so (b) is actually breaking a rule but banning someone merely for making an offtopic post as opposed to closing and deleting it as spam isn't justifyable on its own.

The point is, the moderator should not merely ban people for disagreeing with his opinion, it goes against redditquette.
