With more consistent starting pitching, I'd say we'll win a few more games than last season. I'm dissapointed, too, that we didn't sign ANY free agents of note. I'm still hoping we trade w/ Texas to get Koji back -- I'll be happier then.

I'd be stoked if we get Koji back. A guy I work with has been pretty down on Koji, but the guy seals wins. He pitched great for us.

It's sad that we are supposed to get excited about Wilson Betemit.

Thats pretty much all we have signed offensively is role players, we dont have the lineup to be able to do that. A team on the brink of a world title does that.

True, and I have agreed with that sentiment for so long, but I've finally snapped as an O's fans.

The Rays turned from a team that was worse than the O's into a perennial contender...and they have no money. Detroit lost 119 games only 8 years ago, now they are contender as well.

The O's are a financially successful franchise, yet we spend only $10 million more than the Rays, and we are on par with the Brewers, Reds, and Rockies.

The last time we made a splash was 2004, and it nearly worked. We just didn't have the pitching. Now we have nothing. No lineup, young arms that struggled mightily last year, and no bullpen.

You need to spend money (intelligently) to win in the MLB. You can't be rebuilding every year for 10+ years. We will NEVER beat the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, or Blue Jays unless we beat them at their own game.

Angelos is giving the team to his (even worse) son when he dies...which means I may live out the rest of my days and never see a winning Orioles team again.

I like the pitching acquisitions. There was nothing earth shaking but loading up on prospective talent is never a bad thing, seeing how MacPhail very rarely added free agent pitching.

Yea he wanted to grow the arms and buy the bats, yet he never bought any bats! Well quality in their prime bats....

True he mostly traded for them. Where would we have been without Scott, Reynolds, Hardy and Jones? As for pitching, you really cant buy quality unless you are at the very top (Lee/Sabathia). Outside of them, the top contracts for SPs the past 3 years have netted an average ERA of 4.64 and salary of $11.5M. What if we had bought Lackey?

Well...our uniforms look cool.

To paraphrase that guy from Fist of the North Star...we are already dead.

I'm starting to get more optimistic. The good people at camdenchat realistically argue that we could get four more wins than last year just from the upgrades to our bench. i'm looking forward to the articles in the next couple days, which will analyze the lineup and pitching. I think it may be realistic to near .500 this year, but I'm not holding my breath.
