Trade Talk Time: Ramon Sessions (self.nba)
submitted 3 months ago by ShakespearInTheAlley
I've got one underrated point guard who has a gorgeous floater and has learned to be a much more "pass-oriented" guard under Byron Scott. Knicks, Lakers et. al., who and or what would you be willing to ship to Cleveland for him?

The Lakers would like to give the Cavs the honor of acquiring the young, talented and underpaid Luke Walton for Ramon Sessions.
[–]Montec 11 points12 points13 points 3 months ago
Not to mention he has championship experience!
[–]SerialRappist 6 points7 points8 points 3 months ago
hahaha that sounds more like a cleveland browns move.

I'll do this if, and only if, it comes with Bill Walton coming to Cleveland to do to color commentary as well. I love Austin Carr, but I miss Bill Walton's drawn-out voice more than anything else in the NBA.

The hard part about trading point guards: Most teams don't need a point guard - many already have 2 they are happy with.
Teams that notably do: Knicks, Lakers - no good trade pieces outside of superstars
[–]emalik25 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago
Are you saying Steve Novak isn't a good trade piece?
[–]snitchin_randy 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago
No, he's a superstar
[–]farvastache 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago
That's why the Lakers use their trade exception and add a late first round pick. It's definitely possible.
[–]K_U 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
Exactly. The Lakers can simply send the Cavs the 1st rounder they got from the Mavs in the Odom trade, plus cash and/or a future 2nd rounder to seal the deal. Sessions would fit into the Lakers' cap using their Odom trade exception.
[–]farvastache 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
The fact that the Lakers might actually do that thrills me. Ramon Sessions for any first rounder is an absolute steal even if the pick is at the end of the round.
Especially considering that they got him and Ryan Hollins plus a second round pick for Bassy Telfair and Delonte West at the peak of his crazy.

I don't think you can add anything when trading a TPE.
Yes you can add cash and draft picks but not players.
didn't know that. I guess that's better for my Lakers, thanks.
[–]IamIncogneato 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
Probably just our first round draft pick and maybe darius Morris.
[–]soasdude 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
why not just trade Shumpert for Sessions?
[–]swi55mike 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
Problem for the Knicks and Lakers is they are over the tax. Need to ship back within 90% of the salary they receive if I remember correctly. Lakers do have a trade exception though, although they don't have any young prospects at a position of need for Cavs. Not gonna trade a PG for another one. Knicks could try and swing a deal with shumpert or fields but they are on rookie contracts and are valuable for their low cap number. Lakers are better off trading Pau or Bynum in a blockbuster.
The Lakers can get Sessions if they want him, especially because of the Odom trade exception and the extra 1st rounder they have from that trade. I'm guessing they will make a move after their Grammy road trip.
Lakers Get: Ramon Sessions (using $4.25M from the Odom trade exception)
Cavs Get: $3M cash, and a 2012 first round pick (top 20 protected)
The Knicks on the other hand, would have to match salaries in any deal. Since the salaries on their roster are so top heavy, it would be nigh impossible for them to offer the Cavs anything attractive in exchange for Sessions.

Come on Orlando fans, you can use him and you know it.
[–]jive_turkey 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
people in ORL have been talking about him, but the only guys of any value we have are JJ and Anderson, and Sessions is not worth them. You can have Duhon or Qrich if you'd like. PLEASE. TAKE THEM.

Knicks offer: Mike Bibby, Jared Jeffries, Ronaldo Balkman for Antawn Jamison, Ramon Sessions
