you'll mostly get mixed reviews on this subject. it likely wont effect weight loss, but if you find you aren't getting the results you want, cut out the 0 carb drinks and see if you are more successful. i have read studies that say even the taste of sugar (even if it is artificial) can spike blood sugar, but this will be debated and if it is actually true, it would still vary from person to person. health-wise these drinks aren't really the best because they are empty calories and you can find studies that claim artificial sweeteners cause lots of fun stuff like cancer, but again, these things are debatable.

Just a slight correction. Some folks experience a spike in insulin (not blood-sugar) when ingesting or even tasting (and spitting out) artificial sweeteners. The effect varies from person to person though. I've never had absolute zero Monster knock me out of ketosis, but then again I might buy one about once a week or so, and usually don't even finish it (they taste way oversweet to me now)

This is utterly fascinating. I wonder if the connection is physical (stimulation of taste buds) or mental? I also wonder whether just thinking about the taste of sugar could make your insulin go up a bit, in the same way that thinking of something really savory can make your mouth water...

But then, I'm a philosophy student, so maybe this is just me :)

A lot of people report having dreams where they eat lots and lots of carbs (myself included). Since dreaming about something is a lot stronger than just thinking about it, I wonder if they could cause an insulin response.

you should definitely do more research and report back to r/keto because it seems like this question is asked a couple times a day and there is never really a definitive answer.

For the first couple weeks, you're probably best avoiding them. After that, if you even want them anymore, you'll have to evaluate for yourself. Some people find that sweets make them want more, and it can turn into a major cheat. Some people also find that artificial sweeteners/sugar alcohols either make them sick or even kick them out of keto.

Zero carbs, zero sugar, zero calories: short answer, yes it's completely fine.

Yep, what the others have said--it varies. Some people drink diet drinks every day with no problems, and some people notice increased cravings and/or stall from them. Personally, I have them once in a while (once, maybe twice a week) with no problems.

I'll drink a sugar free Red Bull once a week. If Rockstar isn't too sweet, you might experiment, I wouldn't do the diet coke, just energy drinks.

I drink fresca relatively often (4-5 cans a week), I hope that's not hurting my weight loss :\

If you stall it's the first thing I would cut out.

I bought a case of coke zero the other week, and drank them sparingly until I noticed that it had aspartame in it. I don't know much about the ingredient but I've heard some bad things about it, so I keep the soda to a bare minimum.

Aspartame is fine.

That's too much water. Or a lie.

Huh? That's a gallon--lots of people drink that much water. I do it some days, but I'm usually between 2 & 3 liters.

not a lie. I honestly drink that much water instead of eating. It fills me up and I don't mind it.

Why would drinking that much water be bad for anyone?

Obviously you're not drinking anywhere near that amount, but I thought it might be interesting/relevent :)

Yea I also doubt the amount of water.

I'm not sure about OP, but I drink a minimum of 5 quarts of water per day. More when I'm doing aerobic exercise (P90 & C25K). I ended up drinking less than that after a heavy day of aerobics last Wednesday and ended up drinking 2 gallons the following Thursday. I'm 6'3" and 258lb if that helps at all. That somebody else would drink a gallon per day doesn't even raise an eyebrow for me.

I drink that much every day, too--two 2 L bottles of seltzer at a minimum--or else i feel parched. Of course, I live at 8500 ft and hike a lot but still it doesn't seem like that much to me.

Fucking seltzer water! YES! I drink multiple bottles everyday.

No, it is not "too much water".

You are very seriously misinformed.
