It seems like they let the Mac/Portal 2 details leak without big announcements, which makes me think that they could be planning a major reveal for today. After all, the TF2 team has pulled deceptions like this before, to awesome effect.

Who knows, maybe the whole "No Episode 3 in 2010" thing was a red herring! Maybe it's already finished and they're ninja releasing it tonight!

Okay, sorry, I got a bit excited there. There's no way in hell that's happening.

My guess is it was a Valve employee who is scared of The Truth. We all know that the melting point of the Portal gun is 4000 kelvin; there's no way that it could have survived an explosion that was clearly hotter than that.

They expect us to believe that a single rogue android on a suicide mission destroyed GLaDOS, the Portal gun and the Facility, taking herself out with it. However, an experiment that I conducted using materials similar to those of the Portal gun and the material the Facility was constructed with reveals that it would have taken thermite and an entire team of agents working together to destroy the Aperture Science Facility and the Portal gun.

Gabe Newell is a co-founder of Valve. Today he is receiving a 2010 Game Developers Choice award at GDC. a lot of people are expecting him to reveal something big during it.

We though t it was going to be Portal 2 or Steam for Mac, but those were announced earlier this week.

I think we have had it on Ep3 for now. If he talks about anything it will be the Mac and Portal 2. I think we are all just suffering from desperate wants. All this talk about an announcement was probably what we have already heard...although I am silently praying to the nebulous deities of valve.

I just found this, sounds like he's received the award, but in the fourth paragraph it says:

In keeping with previous titles Valve has recently started an Alternate Reality Game (ARG) which is promoting Portal 2, a Macintosh version of Steam and possibly the long awaiting game Half-Life 3 too.

Sounds like this news site, at least, thinks there might be more coming...

If you go to the main website for the GDC awards http://www.gamechoiceawards.com/ It states about 4 hours left until it starts. So I think that website you linked to might of got ahead of itself.

I also don't think Gabe Newell will be announcing anything, because it seems kinda gaudy to promote your product when receiving an award. If he were a speaker, than maybe he might announce something, but sadly he is not.

Indeed, that's what I always though. Although I kinda hoped he'd do it anyway. :D

and possibly the long awaiting game Half-Life 3 too.

... this almost sounds as if they just forgot to put in the word "Episode", though. For us HL fanboys, Episode 3 and HL3 are two very, very different things.

Well, supposedly there will also be some Deus Ex 3 news, which, despite my low hopes, should be interesting.

I have a feeling that half life 3 is already in the works. Episodic content is fairly easy to push out (2 games in 6 years plus a 3rd that's likely to be released in the not too distant future is pretty good going compared to 7 years for 1 full game).

I think Episode 3 is part being held back until they have something to show in their next engine!

To be fair, Gabe always joked (?) in interviews that they should have called them "Half Life 3 Episodes" instead. So it's not that far off.

I really like robosatan's theory, though. That would be my new best-case scenario. The minimal Source engine updates and 2 or 3 new enemies here and there (and no new guns!) are really getting boring. Episode 2 was excellent... but still just an addon pack. Opposing Force had more actual new gameplay than all of the Episodes combined so far.
