Smoked herring (from a tin) and avocado on a bagel. Most people stop listening at "smoked herring" :(

[–]Mekchrious 9 points10 points ago

I'll second this...really any smoked fish/avocado/cream cheese on a bagel.

[–]anothernameagain 4 points5 points ago

ALSO, I really really really want to try lutfisk. But, there's not really a scandinavian community where I live, so I'll just have to wait until I visit Minnesota or something someday.

[–]Hoppish 6 points7 points ago

Don't bother. They have a saying in Norway: "Lutefisk is good because it's served with bacon and mustard sauce"

[–]a_girl 3 points4 points ago

For what it's worth, to me it tasted like old fish glue.

[–]skumletor 0 points1 point ago

BAD lutefisk is like jelly/fish glue. If its done right, the texture is much more firm. One of my favorite dishes. I know my shit, I'm norwegian.

[–]californicarepublic 0 points1 point ago

Did this with Sardines and Avocado. It was odd, but somewhat interesting. Friends seemed mostly disgusted by it.

[–]Anon_is_a_Meme 0 points1 point ago

But... that sounds really nice.

[–]jake10684 0 points1 point ago

I do something similar with sardines and avocado on sourdough. It's so good but my wife can't even stand the smell, so I don't get to eat it very often any more.

[–]spillar 36 points37 points ago

Kiwi, skin on

[–]ninjafroglet 5 points6 points ago

As a Kiwi I would just like to point out that it is kiwifruit. Unless, of course, you meant this or that you are a cannibal.

[–]spillar 1 point2 points ago

haha, nah, i skin my humans

[–]cookiesone 0 points1 point ago

Zespri bro.

[–]kevlarcupid 3 points4 points ago

My wife hates it when I do this. I've eaten kiwi with the skin on since I was a kid. Nice to know there's someone else.

[–]Jough83 8 points9 points ago

This was the only comment in this list that actually made me cringe. The hair is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

[–]spillar 0 points1 point ago

its worth a try! darthmarth mentions there, you hardly notice it.. just give it a wash or just a rub and bite in!

[–]darthmarth 2 points3 points ago

You hardly notice it.

[–]hkg 1 point2 points ago

I do this too... but really only with the yellow or golden ones. The skin is just so much softer on those.

[–]stryder66 1 point2 points ago

I love the skin on a kiwi...my mother used to yell at me for it all the time.

[–]bannana 2 points3 points ago

And we have a winner.

[–]pryomancer 1 point2 points ago

I imagine that to be similar to what it feels like when a tarantula sprays hairs at your face as a defensive measure.

[–]fs2k2isfun 11 points12 points ago

Blood Sausage

Sweetbreads

Pig head

[–]chefgantor 1 point2 points ago

Sweetbreads are so good.

[–]shneven 1 point2 points ago

First and only time I ate blood sausage resulted in food poisoning. Sad, because I liked it but can't even look at it anymore

[–]ImSpicy 0 points1 point ago

The Slavic in my is suppose to crave blood sausage... Nope.

[–]stryder66 0 points1 point ago

I've had the head of a pig from a whole pig roast....soooooooo freaking good. The best meat on the pig.

[–]LadyZest 12 points13 points ago

I eat banana and mayonnaise sandwiches. I've never met anyone who wasn't repulsed by it, but I've eaten them since I was a kid.

[–]CitiusAltiusFortius 4 points5 points ago

I got chills from reading that combo.

[–]Jawne 0 points1 point ago

weirdo! :P

[–]dgiper 0 points1 point ago

I loved banana and mayonnaise sandwiches as a kid. I'm going to try one next time I have some bananas in the house to see if I still like it.

[–]hilaryyy 0 points1 point ago

Banananaise. It's about as fun to say as it is to spell. :D

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points ago

Straight onions.

[–]Jough83 15 points16 points ago

My grandpa used to pull onions straight from the garden and eat them like apples. I thought he was strange, but it turns out he was just one of the manliest men alive.

[–]bannana 2 points3 points ago

Probably because of the onions, they are supposed to increase testosterone.

[–]stryder66 0 points1 point ago

Haven't you seen that movie Holes

[–]ShamelesslyPlugged 1 point2 points ago

Can you smell? People with anosmia can eat onions like apples much more easily than most people.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points ago

I can smell just fine. Eating onions straight isn't easy; sometimes it creates a burning sensation in my nose. But I like it. It tastes good.

[–]CitiusAltiusFortius 1 point2 points ago

I feel sorry for your stomach. Mine always gets upset after onions, but I love them too much to stop.

[–]sermeow 1 point2 points ago

I used to do this all the time as a kid, until my mother started banning me from the kitchen while she was making dinner so I couldn't steal pieces of onion from the cutting board. As an adult, I can't eat them raw without a little salt, pepper, and olive oil.

[–]hagiography 0 points1 point ago

Indian people do it allllll the time.

[–]captain_bandit 7 points8 points ago

Duck Hearts soaked in soy and lightly grilled.

[–]imatworkla 1 point2 points ago

YUM!

[–]anitasmokeajoint 6 points7 points ago

pickled herring.

[–]BorgDrone 3 points4 points ago

Raw herring. (Ok, most people in my country would but probably uncommon on reddit)

[–]amitrottl 0 points1 point ago

Netherlands? I miss this one particular stand in Amsterdam I would always stop to get fresh herring on bread, I believe with onions on top. So buttery...smooth...ahh the memories are making my tastebuds tingle!

[–]paraiahpapaya 0 points1 point ago

How is this so different from sushi?

[–]pfizzel 0 points1 point ago

...in mustard sauce.

[–]PPUni 4 points5 points ago

I love a little bit of sugar on my sugar.

No, but seriously I love sweet stuff so I'll eat sugary treats that make others cringe. I once made myself white, dark, milk and peanut butter chocolate chip pancakes that were topped with gummy bears, whipped cream and sprinkles. I then spent the next hour trying to avoid diabetic shock.

[–]PhillyFade 7 points8 points ago

Durian.

[–]dshipp 2 points3 points ago

My colleague went out and bought dried durian after we were discussing it. I'm reliably informed that it's not nearly as bad when dried, but it was still one of the most horrible things I have tasted. Kudos if you actually enjoy eating it.

[–]Rose1982 2 points3 points ago

After living in a country where there is a popular durian season and all the markets smell like it.... Ugh. Never again.

[–]darthmarth 1 point2 points ago

I was at a really upscale restaurant in Shanghai and we ordered durian tarts. Everyone hated them, but I thought they were really good.

[–]93sr20det 7 points8 points ago

I love the taste of MRE's....

[–]Jough83 0 points1 point ago

I'm a fan of the flatbread with jalapeno cheese. It gives me some major heart burn, but it's really not too bad. Oh, and the pound cake.

[–]Oleander42 0 points1 point ago

Only counts as 'weird' if you like the veggie omelets. It's like eating a disgusting, rotten-vegetable-ridden sponge...Ugh.

[–]Rinnee 5 points6 points ago

I eat any canned soup straight out of the can. Cambells condensed? Love that shit. Clam Chowder is a little iffy, but I still do it.

It's not as weird as everyone elses, but people are typically very weirded out/shocked that I do this.

[–]hipppo 2 points3 points ago

do you warm it over a burning garbage can?

....actually it doesn't sound too bad to me

[–]tricky3146 0 points1 point ago

... but it's condensed!! It's not super salty?

[–]Rinnee 1 point2 points ago

I love salty foods, so really it's more like "But it has water in it! Is it not super bland?"

[–]mei9ji 4 points5 points ago

Tripe, cartilage, all the other bits in pho. Jelly fish. Pretty much anything with an odd texture that asians eat. though not duck blood.

[–]hagiography 0 points1 point ago

with club sauce.

[–]stryder66 0 points1 point ago

Pho - I loves it!

[–]aznbbqmachine 4 points5 points ago

dried squid

[–]IamSparticles 2 points3 points ago

I used to like eating dried cuttlefish as a snack. Then I found out how intelligent they are. Now it feels like eating dolphin babies.

[–]zac--attack 1 point2 points ago

What is it like? I like squid a lot. Is it like a packaged snack? Like a squid version of beef jerky? This sounds appealing..

[–]rmhawesome 0 points1 point ago

I didn't think that was weird...

[–]laus_veneris 4 points5 points ago

Fried chicken gizzards. Once you get past the chewy texture it's nothing but deliciousness.

[–]intarwebzWINNAR 2 points3 points ago

Livers and gizzards are amazing.

[–]IceK1ng 4 points5 points ago

Cured Shark.
I'm Icelandic.

Fried Blood pudding with sugar.

[–]soxfanpdx 0 points1 point ago

[–]IceK1ng 1 point2 points ago

Yep. Surprisingly good when you can ignore the chewy texture and ammonia smell.

[–]easye7 6 points7 points ago

Canned oysters, liverwurst.

[–]Spazum 1 point2 points ago

Liverwurst is delicious because of the pig snouts.

[–]mr_syco 3 points4 points ago

My oat and tuna burgers. Something I made up as a test while looking for some quick high protein foods. Sliced onion, crushed garlic, cup of oats, two cans of tuna and an egg white. Looks revolting before cooking but tastes amazing when cooked in the pan.

[–]UltimasXaero 2 points3 points ago

I like the sound of that, actually.

[–]Uncle-Dads-Whistle 3 points4 points ago

I'll try anything, and reading this thread is making me hungry.

[–]Mioby 4 points5 points ago

Spam. Ate it all through my college years. Love it.

[–]brianofoz 2 points3 points ago

I eat the tails of shrimp. Many people have indicated that its weird, but I have a cousin that does it too.

[–]Yukenna 1 point2 points ago

I can only manage to do this when they're fried. It seems to denature the exoskeleton just enough for me to be able to swallow without choking on sharp bits.

[–]prisontattoo 0 points1 point ago

i do this, too. just have to chew well, and carefully!

[–]Willravel 2 points3 points ago

Banana + American cheese. I tried it as a kid and to this day I love it. Peanut butter and onion sandwiches are good, too.

[–]tang123 1 point2 points ago

wat

[–]Willravel 1 point2 points ago

Don't knock it 'till you've tried it.

[–]MaplePoutineRyeBeer 3 points4 points ago

If around my American friends, ketchup chips and poutine. Both are too yummy!

[–]noodlz 9 points10 points ago

  • Chicken feet
  • Tripe
  • Fried intestine
  • Steak blue rare
  • Pork medium rare
  • Durian
  • Live lobster (as in rip it open and start eating)

Some things that not everyone would find objectionable, but certainly divisive nonetheless:

  • Hot Chili peppers
  • Lamb
  • Sashimi

[–]Spaztic_monkey 7 points8 points ago

Everything on there I love, except eating a live lobster which I don't find cringe worthy, but rather objectionable. There is no reason why you couldn't kill it humanely first rather than picking out the flesh of a still living creature.

[–]kmack 1 point2 points ago

While the idea grosses me out, if you were to split it's head with a chef's knife before indulging I don't think it's any less humane than cooking it. I kill them that way as opposed to in boiling water as I think it's a quicker death. I'm more interested in the flavor/texture, I'd think it would be quite watery.

[–]Spaztic_monkey 1 point2 points ago

Yeah I agree about the knife to the head thing and would try it if it was a fresh humane kill, but he clearly says that the lobster is alive.

[–]noodlz 8 points9 points ago

Unfortunately, a knife through the lobster's head is mostly a symbolic gesture for our own benefit. The lobster itself lacks a complex nervous system capable of transmitting feelings of pain. Thus far, there have been no studies that have been able to indicate that a crustacean's response to sensory input, that we would perceive as the animal being in pain, actually correspond to our idea of pain. The closest that a study has come to being able to show that crustaceans feel pain is being able to demonstrate that they react to sensory input, and can potentially learn to avoid such inputs. Responding to sensory input in a reactionary way that is beneficial to the survival of the creature ultimately the species is not something that relies on our definition of pain.

What constitutes death for a lobster? Does putting a knife through it's head cause it to lose whatever consciousness it had previously? I've worked with many lobsters in my time, and I've seen them struggling even after being dressed (and even partially cooked). I don't think that we have a clear enough understanding of a crustacean's consciousness to be able to definitively say that putting a knife through it's head is enough to kill it, in a manner that is humane enough that the majority would not feel uneasy.

I respect that your opinion, and will be happy to leave it at that.

[–]UNHALLOWED360 1 point2 points ago

Durian is so rank . You are a brave soul to eat that smelly fruit of garlicdeath

[–]toastedbutts 1 point2 points ago

yup. anything in his list but that is okay, but WTF it's like literally eating old rotten garbage.

[–]RainbowYawn 0 points1 point ago

Whenever someone asks this question someone always mentions eating rare or raw pork. I've always understood this as being very dangerous... More info on this?

[–]cprime 4 points5 points ago

The likelihood of contracting trichinosis in the modern age is slim to none. Historically, it was a real threat, so everyone cooked their pork to bone-dry well-done-ness. Would I eat raw pork, no. Not because I'm scared of getting sick, but because cooked pork fat is FREAKING DELICIOUS. Eating medium-rare pork is becoming more "safe" as the generations who remember trichinosis are dying out (unrelated to trichinosis).

[–]roxnrock 1 point2 points ago

Historically, it was a real threat

Pigs have lived in much cleaner conditions since the end of WW2, and this is why trichinosis is now uncommon.

[–]samm1t 1 point2 points ago

From what I understand health safety standards have made eating pork much safer in general, and the FDA has lowered the recommended temperature for cooking.

[–]royalmarquis 0 points1 point ago

i didn't know people eat lobster raw. do you actually do the ripping yourself?

[–]tboner6969 0 points1 point ago

could you elaborate further on the practice of eating a lobster live? I have never heard of this - is this Maine lobster you are talking about or is it an Asian practice? I am a huge fan of both Maine lobster and sashimi (but until now those two foods never 'met') so this is very relevant to my interests.

[–]noodlz 1 point2 points ago

It seems to have originated in Japan, although I am not intimately aware of the origins. The idea behind this preparation is that fresh, uncooked lobster flesh is sweet and quite tender, as opposed to the usual bland, overcooked mess that is known to many. This link details the experience from the point of view of a patron at a Japanese restaurant.

A quick search on google will return many results that detail exactly how to prepare the lobster, if you feel so inclined.

[–]vchroma 7 points8 points ago

french fries and mayonnaise. everyone i know gives me questionable looks when i ask for it with my french fries-

[–]BiaXia 2 points3 points ago

I do this, but if it's with commercial mayonnaise, then I have to throw some salt and black pepper in it to temper the acidity. For some reason, most commercial mayonnaise is just way more acidic than it needs to be.

[–]darthmarth 0 points1 point ago

The acid prevents spoilage.

[–]rmhawesome 1 point2 points ago

it's apparently just Americans that don't do this. I like pink sauce (ketchup/mayo mix) personally

[–]redmongrel 12 points13 points ago

My boogers. Nobody will ever try my boogers, though I swear they're yummy.

[–]narcolepticnuc 2 points3 points ago

Barbacoa (cow head)

[–]Mioby 3 points4 points ago

I had to look up barbacoa, because I wanted to make sure the kind type of barbacoa I was eating at taquierias are not cow heads.

[–]narcolepticnuc 0 points1 point ago

It can be goat or lamb as I understand. In south Texas I have only seen it as cow head, if not the entire head then the cheek or tongue.

[–]BiaXia 1 point2 points ago

people always cringe at eating head meat, for some reason. I've never really understood it. All cows have heads, and those heads have meat on them. I frankly think it's a bit disrespectful of the animal to kill it and then throw away parts that can be of use.

[–]Jean-Baptiste1763 2 points3 points ago

Brains, tripes, whelks, tongue... Frankly, the list goes on!

[–]baconsea 2 points3 points ago

uni

[–]xnecrontyrx 0 points1 point ago

Uni wrapped in nori with a raw quail's egg on top.

So.

Damn.

Good.

[–]barlister 0 points1 point ago

uni, ikura, raw oysters, raw clams, raw shrimp, raw geoduck, I've eaten salmon eggs right out of a salmon I just caught, they're awesome, so delicate, sweet, zero salty flavor.

[–]lizgger15 2 points3 points ago*

beef tongue tacos AKA tacos de lengua, beef tripe AKA menudo

[–]artesc 1 point2 points ago

Fucking menudo man, just so good.

[–]MOLESTOTHESUPERAPIST 2 points3 points ago

I had a goat-eyeball that was cooked in a foil pack with butter and chilies. At first it was like trying to bite through a spicy super bouncy ball, then when it finally gave I got a boiling hot cheek full of salty liquid. Delicious.

[–]trizub 2 points3 points ago

Oatmeal soup. Awesome comfort foot, I love it!

[–]Rose1982 1 point2 points ago

Good old comfort feet.

[–]gottalovett 2 points3 points ago

Haggis and black pudding. YUM.

[–]eerhtmot 0 points1 point ago

Best breakfast ever.

[–]daymanee 2 points3 points ago

Eggs in (tomato) sauce

[–]paraiahpapaya 2 points3 points ago

Drinking vinegar straight. I prefer balsamic but sometimes I'll take a shot of plain old white. Most of the time I'll just put a lot on a green salad to make it appear less disgusting to other people. I don't know why, but there's something about acetic acid that really hits the spot.

[–]itsme_timd 3 points4 points ago

I always make a turkey sandwich with a bit of everything from the Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey, dressing, gerkhins from the relish tray, chese, sliced onion, a bit of gravy, cranberry jelly and mayo. I actually look forward to this sandwich more than the meal itself.

[–]rosieco 4 points5 points ago

Scrapple. I will defend it to the death as one of the most delicious breakfast meats ever.

[–]shadowedsidhe 0 points1 point ago

My family eats it cut thin and fried crispy. I've convinced friends to try it but they're horrified once they hear the ingredients.

[–]xnecrontyrx 0 points1 point ago

Former Marylander here. Upvoooote.

Scrapple is delicious, and if you decline to tell people what it is made of until after they taste it (best cooked pan fried so the outside it crispy and the inside is like pate), they will agree with you and often ask for seconds.

[–]vyme 0 points1 point ago

I'm from outside Philly, been living in New Mexico for the past 8 years. I pretty much only go home for Christmas, which is why scrapple is now a traditional part of my family's Christmas breakfast.

I took my girlfriend to PA this year for the first time, and I apparently spent a lot of time talking up scrapple beforehand. She made fun of me for it a bit. Then she tasted it, and couldn't get enough. She's a keeper.

[–]a00nick 4 points5 points ago

Mixing mayonnaise and ketchup together as a dipping sauce for fries, chips, chicken, you name it. Most people think its gross when they see me mixing it up. I guess it doesn't look all that great, but it's so delicious!

[–]trizub 2 points3 points ago

I love mayo and ketchup. Add a drop or two of hot sauce.

[–]tmrk 0 points1 point ago

I do this all the time and get the same reaction. People don't know what they're missing!

[–]redglare 0 points1 point ago

Add some pickle relish and you practically have homemade thousand island dressing. I eat that sort of mixture all the time with salads and chicken. Shit's awesome.

[–]carlznutz 0 points1 point ago

Utahn here, we call it fry sauce. If I'm out of town, I go out of my way to make it if I'm eating frys.

[–]jhoffman92 0 points1 point ago

everybody loves mayo and ketchup, thats what almost every fry sauce is, and thats what mac sauce is

[–]stekky75 8 points9 points ago

Spaghetti-O's

Such a odd taste and texture you can't find anywhere else.

[–]LittleKnown 0 points1 point ago

I've never actually eaten Spaghetti-o's because of the awful smell they make in the microwave. Something about it really turns me off.

[–]darthmarth 0 points1 point ago

I love Spaghetti-O's. Especially with copious amounts of parmesan, a handful of goldfish and some shelled sunflower seeds. Everyone things it's disgusting until they try a bite.

[–]UNHALLOWED360 0 points1 point ago

Tastes like can to me every time I eat them now. I've given up

[–]mjsher2 3 points4 points ago

Peanut butter on onion bagels. It is delicious.

[–]chefgantor 2 points3 points ago

That's def not weird. I love that! Onion bagels are my favorite.

[–]hepahepa 1 point2 points ago

Heat up a pan, slice some onions, cut pig / cow brain in small pieces, fry it on a little amount of vegetable oil until it is slightly brown and very soft. Add salt and pepper. We usually eat it here (middle Europe, kind of local speciality) with fresh bread and it is really very delicious. A lot of people are disgusted even by thinking about this dish and sometimes I am quite ashamed to admit, that I love and enjoy it so much! Also, my brother drinks chocolate milk with everything (grilled sausage, borscht, pizza, schnitzel). I used to be disgusted at first, but I got used to it.

[–]sardonicsalmon 1 point2 points ago

Limburger cheese on rye bread with a slice of onion. I get a 1/2 pound shipped to me about 4 times a year. I'll just wake up one morning thinking "I gotta have it!"

Pickled pigs feet- not the grocery store variety (OK in a pinch) but as done by the local farmer.

Canned Salmon drenched in vinegar with a wedge of onion dipped in salt and boiled potatoes. (once a week)

Dried figs.

[–]UltimasXaero 1 point2 points ago

I had Baby octopus once, three of the little fuckers sat in a bowl of oily Chinese curry sauce. Pretty freakish in terms of appearance and texture but very delicious.

[–]rosieco 0 points1 point ago

my aunt is Vietnamese and came home with a huge sack of baby octopi that she fed to us after stir frying them. Crazy good.

[–]awkwardmolerat 1 point2 points ago

(Well washed) raw potatoes.

[–]poup_soup_boogie 1 point2 points ago

Deep fried ham and cheese sandwiches dipped in strawberry preserves (called a Monte Cristo). Nutella and bacon sandwiches. then there is: english muffin with butter and nesquick strawberry drink powder, and a slice of pre-packaged american cheese. seriously the best thing ive ever eaten in my life. OH! and chicken ramen with curry powder and peanut butter.

[–]neths 1 point2 points ago

an open faced bologna and cheese with pork and beans poured over. so delicious, so weird.

[–]PoPoDisco 1 point2 points ago

When my brother and I were kids we would dip BBQ Pringles in black raspberry ice cream. SO GOOD. I want to try it again to see what it's like now.

[–]poopOnU 1 point2 points ago

Boiled potato, ham, pickles, peas, cooked eggs all diced and thrown together with mayo.

Also known as the popular Russian dish, Olivye

[–]baconfriedpork 1 point2 points ago

i love sweetbreads, blood sausage/black pudding, heart meat...

[–]iggman5 1 point2 points ago

the fat of a brisket. cooked of course. it just melts soooo good in your mouth

[–]smallestart 1 point2 points ago

Peanut butter and dill pickle sandwich. Father passed down the habit from his father. It is delicious!

[–]Kibouhou 1 point2 points ago

I put peanut butter and mayo on my hot dogs.

[–]spaciegracie 1 point2 points ago

Canned corned beef hash. Scrapple. Canned Hormel tamales. Chalk it up to growing up poor in Delaware.

[–]ImSpicy 8 points9 points ago

I'm going to add one more. Wendy's fries dipped in a Frosty. Sooo good.

[–]intarwebzWINNAR 6 points7 points ago

Why is that weird? Wendy's recommends you try it.

[–]domdawg 1 point2 points ago

It's not weird at all lol...

[–]prisontattoo 1 point2 points ago

chicken nuggets dipped in a chocolate frosty. it's fucking delicious.

[–]only_ceremony 1 point2 points ago

Not anything especially exotic but... I live in the south in the U.S. and absolutely love grits. A lot of people I know from up north think they're gross and don't understand the appeal.

[–]IamSparticles 4 points5 points ago

Grits aren't that far off from polenta.

[–]itsme_timd 3 points4 points ago

Grits rule. I make a "breakfast bowl" thing where I make cheese grits and then add in some crumbled sausage and top it with an over-easy egg or two. It's magical.

[–]apandafunn 3 points4 points ago

I'm from Maryland, I grew up eating grits with sugar. I didn't understand why they sold instant cheese flavored grits. And shrimp and grits? No way.

Boy was I wrong about shrimp and grits.

[–]only_ceremony 1 point2 points ago

Unfortunately I'm super duper allergic to shrimp. Creamy grits and fried fish, though... that's a match made in heaven.

Also, the concept of eating sugar on your grits is totally foreign to me. No wonder people don't like 'em if that's how they were introduced to them... I'd imagine it'd taste terrible.

[–]blakeandbake 1 point2 points ago

Take that back!,butter and sugar on grits gross?...ever had oatmeal?ಠ_ಠ

[–]bannana 1 point2 points ago

I grew up on the west coast, joined the army and was stationed in the south, had my first serving of grits and I was hooked also a little pissed that I hadn't had this all of my life.

[–]androidgenius 2 points3 points ago

For reasons I do not understand, people seem to find Bubble Tea repulsive in Texas, however in Houston we have a large Asian population so tea houses are common. I think it's the constituency and concept of the tapioca pearls that weirds people out. Except I like mine with custard as well; most American don't like gelled gooey goodness floating around their drinks.

[–]Randy_Tutelage 1 point2 points ago

I love bubble tea so much.

[–]androidgenius 1 point2 points ago

There is a place near me that is open late, and I have stood in line for 20 minutes waiting for their wondrous bubble tea.

[–]ghey_sailor_luvr 1 point2 points ago

I am in Texas and love bubble tea!

[–]RainbowYawn 2 points3 points ago

Very appropriate username for this post :) I recently made quinoa with baked butternut squash and kale that I seasoned only with salt, pepper, and honey, and topped the plate with a sunny-side-up egg and a little bit of hot sauce right on top. It somehow made my mom angry, but god it was delicious. The yolk running all over the quinoa and veggies and the sweet quinoa/hot sauce combo was just altogether awesome.

[–]anothernameagain 6 points7 points ago

I feel like a runny egg is appropriate on pretty much any savory dish. I like to put a runny egg on my veggie chili :D

[–]losjellybones 1 point2 points ago

Basted egg on a pizza, poached egg on an avocado. All delicious.

[–]palegreen 1 point2 points ago

A poached egg in gazpacho is amazing.

[–]Jough83 1 point2 points ago

I did almost that exact same thing a few weeks ago. But, I added a little salmon to the mix, too.

[–]Oh-god 1 point2 points ago

Octopus

[–]tsondie21 1 point2 points ago

I like to eat cupcake wrappers either with the cupcake or after the cupcake proper is gone.

[–]SPACE_LAWYER 4 points5 points ago

I like to chew on it like gum after the cupcake/muffin

[–]TillMurrall 0 points1 point ago

Boiled seal intestine, oddly delicious.

[–]tecksbuk 0 points1 point ago

I almost posted this same question yesterday! I looove herring eggs on kelp, boiled, covered in soy sauce. I grew up on it so I absolutely love it but most people who aren't Alaska native don't care for it at all..

[–]ChristianTMI 0 points1 point ago

Droëwors (South African dried sausage) dipped in ice cream.

[–]ImSpicy 0 points1 point ago

Squid and octopi at the Asian buffet. I've gone out to work with co-workers and they've clearly expressed their aversion.

Nobody's mentioned head cheese. Does this mean it's too weird even for this thread, or too normal?

Peanut butter and cottage cheese on a bagel, yum!

Sea Urchin or Uni, most of my friend cringe when I order it when we are out for sushi. I don't know why, it tastes delicious to me :-/

Pey Dahn (not sure how to spell it). Fermented eggs with a clear black "white" and a squishy salty smelly yolk.

Cold meat! cold chicken or cold beef/steak, I'll eat it happily. I'm not sure why but I find it delicious.

Spoonful of mayo. That and the kiwi one works for me too. Orange skins if I'm dared, don't really have a problem eating just about anything.

Fermented herring. Delicious with some potatos and onions on a nice bread.

One time when I was in elementary school, my friend and I snuck into her kitchen in the middle of the night at a sleepover and I put peanut butter, salami, and a slice of nectarine on a ritz cracker.....surprisingly delicious!

Balut, anchovies (by themselves and on piazza), dinuguan (kind of a blood stew from the Philippines), and any dried fish or squid make awesome snacks! =3

I love cow tongue in tacos. A HIGHLY underrated cut of meat.

Cucumber, peanut butter, and mayo sandwiches.

Slice cucumbers (sandwich style), spread mayo on one side, peanut putter on the other and put it all together.

Awesome sandwich - anyone I've mentioned it too that hasn't tried it thinks its disgusting. Anyone who has tried it LOVED it.

That Ham & Cheese loaf from Wal Mart lol. Two slices of that between 2 pieces of white bread, no condiments.

Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches.

Foie gras, duck feet, tripe, rice and mayo, pig ears...

Sprats, Sardines, Herring, any fish in a tin. packed straight in olive oil or smoked first. fuck tomato sauce or mustard.

Pulling chunks off of whole smoked mackerel is wonderful too. available at any eastern european market for us americans.

If you can make sushi rice, it's a good companion, otherwise saltine crackers are the best thing to eat tin fish with.
