Does a 3.5mm male to male cable output stereo sound when connected through an amp? (self.audiophile)

I am connecting my headphones->amp->sound card(sound blaster x-fi) and someone told me that with a single to single 3.5 I would only get mono sound because of the amp. Do I need a 3.5 line output 1 & 2 single to stereo head cable? I ask because when connecting my headphones directly(Denon 5k,) I receive stereo sound, why would it be different through an amp?

If it's a stereo cable, you'll get stereo sound.

You can buy mono 3.5mm male-to-male cables, which would result in a mono signal at output, but as long as you stick with stereo cables, you should be good.

.. What amp? Is the cable a mono 3.5mm? How many bands does it have?

Amp is an Epiphany Acoustics EHP-O2 if that helps any.

Ah but in Pro Audio a 1/4" TRS can also be used for balanced mono so this isn't always true. Yes the cable is stereo, but it depends on what you plug it into.
