I'm highly intrigued by Willie Nelson's Trigger

Gibson ES-335 with low gain and some reverb.

A 335 with 11s is where it is at for me.

I have a 335 with 10s right now. If I switch to 11s, do I have to tune it again? (just got it back from the shop)

[–]nerdor257 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm assuming you aren't an idiot and know that obviously you will have to tune the new strings and instead meant set it up. Quite possibly. It isn't that hard. Also there is a good chance that it will be fine as is. However it will be harder to play than with tens.

Yes indeed I meant set it up. English is not my first language. Anyway, thanks for answering!

Came here to say ES-335 as well.

That or a surf-green '65 Strat.

I got my fix with a G&L Asat, have you checked those out yet? It's like having a Fender custom shop for half the price.

A couple of years ago, but got stuck wanting the Will Ray Signature. It was a bass boat green (or silver) one with normal pickups and a B bender. Funny, I do not want to play country! No more than I now play, and as many guitars as I have, I cant quite justify the Keef @ $250 with case. But damn I want one.

40th Anniversary Tele. an absolute work of art. Too bad there were only 300 made.

Agreed, it's the all time classic. John Mayer's is a testament to how much he's played, as is SRV's. Personally Hendrix's black and white one from Isle of Wight was my favorite, so I found a bruised LH one that had fallen off a guitar center wall on ebay for about $450 and had a local shop guy swap it around to RH for $100. I'd post a pic if anyone was interested but it's pretty standard. edit: american of course.

[–]D0NES 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I agree with the SRV and Hendrix, but the Mayers 'Black One' is only five or so years old i think, it was made to look antique.

Black is a bit too blah for me. The green les paul is just flamboyant enough for who I am... that zakk wylde black/white circle-pattern one is too flamboyant though. I do have standards.

[–]atheos 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've got a silverburst, which is about my most flamboyant guitar. two in black, one honeyburst, one wine red, one cherry burst, and a dusk tiger. wait, the dusk tiger is pretty damn flamboyant.

Gibson Les Paul, with a wood body for the more folk and indie stuff that I work with. It's a little more twangy than a normal les paul and looks beautiful. The math rock and ambient stuff I work with I would love to use a Telecaster if I could have one. : (

Epiphone Riviera. Something about them. The other guitar that does it for me is the Telecaster, but I've got a couple of them now, so now I'm glancing eagerly towards the semi-hollow option.

I do it all the time with my Larrivee acoustic. Oddly I don't really think that about guitars. Sometimes I'll play one in a store and go whoa!!! I WANT to make sweet music on that in my home. Then I try to figure out a way to buy it. :)

This thing gives me the fucking horn. Flat white finish with black hardware - 80s-style sexy!

I have no idea who "Jim Root" is, but I'd rock the shit out of one of those.

[–]universal_traveller 0 points1 point ago

Jim Root is the lead guitar player for Slipknot and that's his signature Tele. You're right, the contrast between the paint and hardware makes that thing look beastly. :)

I'm a pacifist but I would definitely maim someone for that SG. I'm also partial to the Steinberger GT after seeing what Martin Tielli could do with his. The Robert Smith Schecter "Ultracure" guitar also gives me a boner.

[–]RomanSionis 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I am an SG guy myself, but have always drooled over the Gibson Blueshawk. If i could ever find a cheap one it would be mine. Also, there was a short run of SG Specials in the late 80's with one volume knob, dubbed the "3-Knob Special" that i have always wanted. Something about the simpler design does it for me.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Usually any older hollow body guitars give me that feeling. Also anything with a P-90 in the neck.

On a separate note, I was at a store who had a 12 string rickenboker(sp?) and I played "Ticket to Ride" and it felt amazing.

There are plenty of guitars I've seen that evoke this response. However, the one that immediately into mind is the Languedoc.

So, so pretty.

(For those who don't know, Paul Languedoc is the former sound guy for Phish, who also builds all of Trey's electric guitars.)

I feel that I've yet to find the guitar that does that for me. So many different instruments for so many different purposes. Each one of them able to play anything, each one of them able to fill a niche by its own. You can't replace one and expect the same outcome by an other. But I've got to say a SRV-styled Strat or an ES-335 are real just awesome guitars, really feels like it was made for the blues (SRV inspired).

A few days ago, I saw a guy with a guitar like this, but the wood from the body went all the way down the neck, and there was no pick guard so it was wooden all the way through. I wanted to kill him and take it.

That SG is doing it for me. They always do it for me no matter how beaten or badly painted. And it has to be a gibson. No one else does the neck right or gets the weight and balance good and proper.

I take every opportunity I can to wax romantically about the SG. Don't even ask about my own if you have some place to be.

[–]seefreshLarrivee/Guild 1 point2 points ago*

I have a Guild S-100 (was more expensive too, out of production now though), its like an SG but its all one piece and heavy as fuck (mahogany)... this is my baby, its my guitar, it does the tone I love and it feels amazing. But... I want a telecaster, with a bucker in it. It has that tone that I just can't get with two buckers and is fun as hell to play when I'm doing rockabilly or heavy blue-grass.

You buying?

If so, I'd like a Yamaha gut-string electric/acoustic hybrid ...and while you are at it, throw in a nice Martin or two.
