If you want to go on a guided tour, you could do the Denver Microbrewery Tour, the Brews Cruise, or the Grand Hyatt Denver guided tour.

Denver microbreweries and taphouses:

Falling Rock Tap House

Breckenridge Brewery

The Wynkoop Brew House

Rock Bottom Brewery

Great Divide

The Flying Dog Taphouse

The Chophouse and Brewery

Strange Brewing Company

Bull and Bush

The Denver Beer Company

Renegade Brewing Company

The Vine Street Pub

Wit's End Brewing Company

...and quite a few that require a bit of driving, like Left Hand, New Belgium (this one is my personal favorite, because of all the beers that are only sold @ the brewery), Molson-Coors, Anheuser-Busch, Boulder Beer, Oskar Blues, Avery, Mountain Sun, Dry Dock, Arvada Brew Co, Del Norte, The Cherry Cricket taphouse... I could go on for days.

I highly recommend the Brews Cruise - the dude is cool, they seem to change up the places they visit, and they try to give you an idea of a all different sized breweries here in Denver. I found that tiny brewery you listed which has AWESOME beer - Wit's End.

Left Hand!

Nah I dunno, Lyons is a pretty little town so I'm gonna go with Oskar Blues.

Great Divide is great, Denver Beer Co. is terrible and it's a shame they use the name of this city.

I may get some flack for this but Coors in Golden is still one of my favorites. The pure scale of their operation is mind boggling plus they have a very storied past and are deeply rooted in Colorado tradition. Worth it just for the nostalgia. There's also the Golden City Brewery in Golden which has always been great.

agreed on Coors - the Coors there tastes waaaaay better than any Coors anywhere else and thats saying a lot.

Great divide

I second this. This place is awesome and the people are really cool.

Definitely Great Divide, since its downtown and walking distance from half a dozen other breweries or taphouses (Wynkoop, Breckenridge, Denver Beer Co., Falling Rock, etc). If you only have one day and want to sample as much as possible, it's no question.

My vote is for GD. Also, if you like whiskey, you absolutely must visit Stranahan's and take a tour.

There are a few good breweries in Fort Collins as well. I really like New Belgium and O'Dell.

My roommate works at Great Divide (tours and bartending), and does the reddit thing to some extent.

I wonder if it's the one who looks inexplicably familiar to me.

If you're only here for one day I don't think it's worth driving 45min each way to Lyons.

Why not? Its a pretty drive and OP can pass through Boulder for a bite to eat on the way there/back. Perhaps head up to Estes as well?

No need to get defensive...Just that if I was he, I'd rather not waste my one day trip sitting in a car for much of the daylight.

No need to get defensive

?

Maybe he means no need to defend your argument? No, that doesn't make sense either.

If you want to hit a couple spots on your own walking tour, you can do Stranahan's whiskey distillery, Breckinridge brewery, and Renegade Brewing Company. It's 1.6 miles of walking to hit all three. I think Breckinridge only does tours of the brewery on Saturdays, but if you just want to drink you can go any old day.

God, this thread makes me want to tour all of the breweries! Oskar Blues is really fun to tour. You can buy a beer before the tour starts, walk around the facility, beer in hand, and then afterwards...more beer!
