My keen eye also detected, the Packers indeed did not play tonight. And it made me smile.

Ill drink to that.

Here's an interesting thought. Would you rather end your season 17-1 or 15-2?

[–]AquaPigeonWith the 18th pick in the 2012 nfl draft the Bears select[S] 3 points4 points ago

Fuck, I'll take either.

[–]mkicon2012 Defensive Player of the Year 11 points12 points ago

We actually have a running game, though.

[–]fumar 1 point2 points ago

The Giants have a running game too, it's just the Pats have a horrendous secondary.

[–]TurnerJ5What is your spaghetti policy here? 12 points13 points ago

Yeah we saw the difference 2 top-caliber receivers can make. That said, Brady's receivers really fucked him tonight.

One thing that was apparent: we could have won the last two Super Bowls had we not had crippling injuries / made it on the NFC side. Especially against the Steelers last year.

Our Cover 2 + Brady's receivers catching balls = not a fucking chance.

Steelers defense last year + our offense last year = not a fucking chance.

[–]TurnerJ5What is your spaghetti policy here? 7 points8 points ago

Pssht. Jay stepped up several times against good defenses. The games were at least 'attainable'.

[–]warbrainMarshall's got 99 problems but punching a woman ain't one. 2 points3 points ago

It wouldn't have been a blowout but we would not have won either Super Bowl. Our teams wouldn't have been able to get over that hill against either team.

I really hope no one comes out of watching the Super Bowl thinking we're close because we aren't.

[–]TurnerJ5What is your spaghetti policy here? 2 points3 points ago

The Bears team that beat the Lions the 2nd game or the Chargers would have easily beaten the Steelers last year. The Patriots this year were 2x as talented as Pittsburgh was last year but, at our peak in 2011, we could've made a game of it.

[–]warbrainMarshall's got 99 problems but punching a woman ain't one. 4 points5 points ago

You can't compare this year's team against last year's Steelers if you're doing that. It's not fair and doesn't make any sense to do so.

[–]TurnerJ5What is your spaghetti policy here? 14 points15 points ago

I have been drinking, therefore, you're wrong.

[–]warbrainMarshall's got 99 problems but punching a woman ain't one. 4 points5 points ago

That's it. I'm packing my things and moving out. I can't handle this anymore.

[–]TurnerJ5What is your spaghetti policy here? 5 points6 points ago

NOT YOU TOO!

[–]Notmyreal1Yay. Offense. 4 points5 points ago

How do people upvote this guy? Makes me so mad with his pessimism and shit.

And I'm staying, Turner! We can watch old Bears games and stuff! :D

[–]pygreg2012 NFC North Champions 1 point2 points ago

He did, but he and the offense could not get over the hump against elite defenses -- like the Packers, the Steelers. We wouldn't have won. This years' offense, however, would've easily thrashed both Steelers and Patriots. I don't think we could've slowed Brady down though. The Giants D-Line and Secondary are just far superior to ours.

[–]fumar 1 point2 points ago

And the Patriots probably would have won last night if they didn't have a crippling injury to Gronk.

We can play the injury what if game, but the fact remains the Bears lack depth and talent at key offensive positions and will not win a Super Bowl until they address WR and the o-line (mainly LT).

[–]Turn-n-BurnEmery Rulez 10 points11 points ago

Yeah, I hate to say it but it's pretty evident that our receiving corps is pretty much the dregs of the league.

[–]Humpty-DumptyA Certain Team, from a Certain Midwestern Town 7 points8 points ago

Nah, that's the Rams.

[–]halasjacksonDominate!!! 2 points3 points ago

Earl Bennett makes some awesome catches -- gotta give him that.

[–]Turn-n-BurnEmery Rulez 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, Earl is pretty good. Good call.

[–]Richie77727Cutler Nation 0 points1 point ago

The Jags.

[–]smacksawBlack and Gold Goon 5 points6 points ago

I think Earl Bennett will be a player in this league, but he's a bit like Cruz and Manningham where he's much better when he's got a legit Nicks-type of guy to take some pressure off of him.

Manningham is enigmatic. But he produced due to the fact that the Pats weren't put either of their top corners on him.

I think he's a better player than Manningham because he's got better concentration.

[–]GenerationGreg 4 points5 points ago

I like what Steve Young said about the Giants winning with a conservative offense compared to the high power offenses we see from NE, NO, and GB. It gives me he hope for next year. As much as I wish we could go 5 across and sling the ball with Cutler I know that's not what the Bears do but if we can get 1 or 2 big receivers I don't see why we can't compete for a SB.

[–]NickBRSuper Bowl XLVII: Bears vs Broncos 8 points9 points ago

We can, so long as Cutler gets protection and our wide receivers can perform at an average level. We have to trust in Emery in the offseason, and Lovie/Tice in the regular season. I'm optimistic!

[–]warbrainMarshall's got 99 problems but punching a woman ain't one. 1 point2 points ago

Our receivers have been performing at an average level.

[–]NickBRSuper Bowl XLVII: Bears vs Broncos 0 points1 point ago

I think they're below average, but I suppose Droptimus Prime was an outlier.

[–]fumar -1 points0 points ago

I have a hard time trusting in an offensive coordinator that needs a passing assistant. It's like the Bears went back to the 1930's and decided they should try out that forward pass thing everyone has been talking about. The NFL is a passing league, not a running league.

You can't run a run first offense (like the Broncos) without having an incredibly good defense and even then, with the way the rules are, you're doomed to mediocrity and Tebowing.

[–]NickBRSuper Bowl XLVII: Bears vs Broncos 0 points1 point ago

Well, fine, poop on my party.

[–]SadisticAndroidsuperbowl or bust 4 points5 points ago

Neither could our tight ends.

[–]old_snake 2 points3 points ago

Well, we used to have a guy...

[–]nixons_dog 0 points1 point ago

The big wide receiver who averaged 5 yards after catch per year?

[–]old_snake 0 points1 point ago

At least he caught 'em.

[–]rudeboybillTeach me how to Cutty 0 points1 point ago

Still up for debate, considering we didn't have tight ends under martz, just skinny tackles.

[–]fumar 0 points1 point ago

You mean Brandon Manumaleuna? He's the prototypical tight end.....in the Martz offense.

[–]rdldr1da Bears Troll 5 points6 points ago

Having a good O-line and good D-line does wonders!!!

[–]fumar 0 points1 point ago

It's as if line play is important! THE VERY IDEA!

[–]astrobeenGo get 'em Shea! 2 points3 points ago

Imagine what Manningham, Nicks and Cruz could do on the Bears... (sigh)

[–]AquaPigeonWith the 18th pick in the 2012 nfl draft the Bears select[S] 4 points5 points ago

Imagine what Vincent Jackson, Michael Floyd, and Earl Bennett could do on the Bears.

[–]Rod_Tidwell 0 points1 point ago

Well the only decent undrafted FA WR we've ever really picked up was solely because Gruden talked him up on TV. And we've seen the drafts... Our WR scouts clearly need to be better. But its not just that. Our coaches are horrendous at coaching WR's.

What did you expect with the backgrounds we have on our coaching staff? We need someone who can not only recognize talent but steer it in the direction of greatness ala the Patriots w/ Wes Welker.
