Here's mine: Blockbuster Video. Back in the day, when they were really the only game in town, I was a good Blockbuster customer. I rented weekly, joined their "Gold" programs, and always brought my rentals back on time. One time they called me and claimed that I had an overdue item. I assured them that they had made a mistake, I always returned my items on time, but they were adamant that I had not returned an item (even though all the other items I rented on the same day were brought back on time). I asked them to please check again and if the item was not found, then we talk about what to do next.

A few days later, I got a bill in the mail for the lost item. I called the store and tried to reason with them, but to no avail, they said this was their corporate policy. I told them I did not think I was wrong and would not pay it. A month later, I got a call from a collection agency over the bill for the lost item. I told them I was not paying the bill because it was their error and these people basically threatened to ruin my credit rating. I paid the bill, but I also mailed my membership card back to them with a letter saying I was boycotting them for life. A few weeks later, I got a letter saying that they had found my video, (a clerk misplaced it) and I now had a credit on my account for the money I had just paid. I asked for my money back, but they explained they did not refund money back. I wrote it off as the cost of being rid of them. When I heard they were going bankrupt, nobody was happier than me.
