Homeward Bound.

At the end of the movie when all the other pets come over the top of the hill except the golden retriever...

...and the little boy who was sad: "he was just too old..." and then the dog comes limping over the hill and run towards him. Goddamnit. sniff

I'm so glad you mentioned commercials. I feel horrible about it now but one day I had just come back from an extended field problem (Army) and I was so excited to see my daughter (She was only about a year old at this time) because I'd been away for a while. When I got home she was very aloof and not warm because she was not quite sure who I was. I remember watching TV with my wife that night when a commercial for some stupid cellphone company came on, the dad in the commercial had just given his teenage daughters new phones and told them how they had unlimited minutes so they could call each other as much as they wanted, the girls looked at him in quite an ungrateful way until the mom piped in with "and you can call your friends as much as you want too." The girls cheered and said "Thanks Mom!" and hugged their mother as the father stood dejected and tried to get into the hug saying "yeah, group hug". I bawled like a freaking newborn after that.

Little Forrest, he's doing just fine. About to start school again soon. I make his breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. I make sure he combs his hair and brushes his teeth every day. Where the red fern grows. I was 6 or 7 and left the room bawling when the first dog died. My dad coaxed me back in for the end sawing the female was going to have puppies. I came back just in time for the second dog to die.

Not a movie, but the last scene in the Blackadder finale always reduces me to tears. Especially since the show is almost never serious, so that one serious, tragic moment is just much more jarring.

One of the movies to Neverending Story sigh

The scene where the horse that the boy was riding got stuck in quick sand and the boy is trying to pull the horse out as it sinks. He's there crying and struggling helplessly and my eyes were all watery.

Sad stuff.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan; Spock's eulogy scene was the first scene I cried at once I was old enough to understand what the hell was going on, which was around 7. Spock's line softened me up 'I never took the Kobayashi Maru test until now. What do you think of my solution?... I have been, and always shall be, your friend... Live long, and proser.'

Of course once it got to the eulogy I couldn't hold back the kiddy tears and they poured fourth at one of the best lines of the movie 'Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human.' That line always, and still does, makes my eyes well up, and not unexpectedly the exact moment Kirk breaks.

I think there's something in my eye...

Spoiler Alert The Green Mile Spoiler Alert - John Coffey's execution scene when he says to Tom Hanks' character something to the effect of, "Please don't put that hood on me, I's afraid of the dark", with tears rolling down his terrified face. If that scene doesn't twang you a little bit, you have no soul. Still the only scene I cried over.

In my entire life, I've only cried once during a movie - "My Girl." When Macauley Culkin dies. It's not a macho thing; I just have an inability to cry during movies. This movie made me ball my eyes out though.

Those really "epic" and heroic "let's charge the enemy and die together" scenes in slowmotion accompanied with really over the top music. My brain screams "cheap!" but my eyes start to moist up every single time.

notmelgibson references the episode Code of Hero in Beast Wars, a CGI cartoon series based on the animal-based 'spin-off' of the original Transformers series.

Dinobot, one of the protagonists (most of the time) gives a really nice speech while in the process of dying. In the end, he dies driving off the series' bad guys by improvising a stone hammer (inspiring the proto-humans) after all of his other weapons malfunction. The focus in the series was mostly on character development and most characters who were offed actually 'died'.

I was in 8th grade when that movie was released. For some strange bewildering reason, I thought the title of the movie was "Wet Dreams may Come". I thought it was a strange name for a serious movie, but I chalked it up to maybe not understanding the term "Wet Dream" as much as I thought I had.

I went around using that title until someone graciously corrected me while giving me a wide-eyed stare.
