Full tank shot?

[–]Dracovitch[S] 1 point2 points ago

I couldn't seem to find the couple I had taken, so tomorrow I'll take a few and post them here. I would now, but the lights are out for the night.

Just posted two quick shots of the full tank.

Wow, that is impressive! The more exotic saltwater fish look so amazing. How much maintenance goes into your setup(s)?

My father owns a 50 gallon reef tank that's sitting next to my tank. Both are wired into the same sump, so we do all our major water changes and cleanings at the same time.

I magnet the tank daily and once a week I siphon the sand and scrub the glass with a brush really well.

What kinds of fish does he have in his tank? Must make for an incredible room!

Here's a list of what's in the reef.

Yellow Tang

Black Nox Angel

Niger Trigger,

Convict Worm Goby (x2)

Scooter Dragonette

3-Stripe Damsel

Yellow Tail Damsel

very cool! do you introduce everyone at the same time? at a similar size?

[–]Dracovitch[S] 0 points1 point ago

The wolf eel and the puffer were introduced at the same thing. two weeks later the lionfish was introduced, and about a month after that I got the trigger. The trigger was an unexpected birthday present and was pretty big already so no one messed with him.

[–]detaxelfoley 1 point2 points ago

other than the trigger, where they all comparable in size? thanks for the reply...

[–]Dracovitch[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yes, when they were all introduced they were all roughly the same size. And now they're all pretty large, the puffer is the smallest of the lot.

hangon.. you have a fish close to 2 feet long in a 40 gallon tank?

please tell me you missed a 0 on that 40 or something..

[–]Marmaladez 5 points6 points ago

It's an eel.

[–]Dracovitch[S] 6 points7 points ago

Nope. It's a 40 gallon corner bow, very wide and straight sides are very long. He doesn't have any issues with movement and chills in his cave most of the time. I have a guy who's wants to buy the tank (not the fish, just the tank and stand) so I intend to use that money plus a paycheck to get them a much bigger tank. Keep in mind when everything was first set up, everyone was very tiny compared to now.

[–]entactogen 1 point2 points ago

ahh okay, thats cool.. and yeah, i guess he'd be like a ghost knife, very flexible and stuff.. awesome fish also, cant wait to get a marine setup going

Amazing tank! I'm very jealous of Red Baron

TIL you can keep a green puffer in saltwater!

[–]BlockoManWINS 1 point2 points ago

i had a snowflake eel and you would be surprised at what a hungry eel can take down. keep him fed man :P

good call with the bowfront. i have a 30 gallon cube shape myself and it is nice to have so much floor space, especially with a lionfish and its long pointy fins.

[–]Dracovitch[S] 2 points3 points ago

The important thing to remember is that wolf eels aren't true eels like Morays. Wolf eels are actually closely related to Dottybacks, thus do not have the extendable jaw that a moray has.

Your lionfish actually looks like a dwarf zebra lionfish which is awesome. I haven't been able to track them down locally. When our local stores have lionfish in stock they are either the big volitans or fuzzys. Where did you get yours? How easy was it to acclimate to frozens? (if it is). Also, how is the GSP doing in the saltwater? I've only ever seen them in brackish setups, but hear they can do well in saltwater

[–]Dracovitch[S] 0 points1 point ago

I got the lion from a local store her in Montana, Crystal Clear Aquariums. He unfortunately won't touch frozen food. For a while he seemed interested in frozen silversides, but he stopped going after them a few days into trying them out.

The puffer does great, I got him out a tank of four at the shop, which were all in saltwater. He's had no health problems at all and is happy as can be.
